7 month old with Eczema

Hi all-

I am brand new to this forum and am desperate for help. My son has been diagnosed with eczema. He is miserable, my husband, daughter and I are completely sleep deprived...my son is not getting better. Her is the story:

Had terrible case of cradle cap that by 6 weeks had spread to face/shoulders. Pediatrician said to put on 1% hydrocortisone cream. I thought it would be fixed within a few days. When it spread to arms/chest, I was given a stronger steroid. When it spread to diaper area/legs, an even stroger steroid. Then off to the dermatologist who gave me an even stronger steroid.

At 4 months, I could not stand the thought of another steroid and went to an ND. He ran a kinesiology test and told me to give up wheat, dairy, yogurt, potatoes, sulfite and nitrates. I have--since Feb 1. My son has been 100% breast fed until 6 months with the intro of solids and occasional Nature's Only soy formula.

The good news is that he is no longer on the steroids. The bad news is that he is only marginally better. I have taken him to an allergist--no allergies. I have changed laundry detergents. No change. The weather here is improving no difference.

I am getting very close to formula feeding him, b/c I feel like the breast milk is poisoning him. He is scratching his head/neck to shreds, doesn't sleep, cries all of the time. My daughter gets none of my attention since I am always comforting him. I am extremely depressed, not to mention sleep deprived.

The ND did also give me sulfter to give him (of which I an out of), but will not refill or answer any of my questions over the phone, without bringing my son in again. My insurance doesn't cover the visits and I have already been to see him 8 times since February. He only gives me one small piece of advise everytime I go in and I cannot afford $100/visit to get one small piece of advice. Someone please help me.

Also, I am taking 800mg Biotin/day, 3 tsp fishoil, and lots of water.

Petroleum jellies, mineral oil, actually, most oils seem to make his skin worse. Oatmeal bath makes his skin worse. Can someone please tell me what to do? I really need help and am at the end of my rope.

Kuldeep-

Thanks for your reply and information. Your are truly sent from God.

I went out today and immediately purchased the petroleum...but, I could only find it in tablet form. One dose is 5 tablets. I tried one and it was relatively hard/crunchy, so I am not sure that my 7 month old will be able to eat it--and it seems to hard to melt in his mouth quickly. So, I have the following questions for you. I hope you don't mind:

1. Can I crush the tablets and put it in his food/drink?

2. If not, can I crush them and let him suckle it off of my finger?

3. Does it matter what time of day I give it to him?

4. Should I give it to him in between meals or with meals?

5. If I am lucky and the petroleum works right away, do I continue to give it to him 1x/week? For how long?

6. While I am waiting for this to work, is there anything I can apply on his skin (topically) that may help the itching, redness etc?

Again, thank you for your help. I hope you don't mind my follow-up questions...I'll keep you posted, OK?

Sorry, one last question, the remedies you suggested ARE for infants, correct? The nutritionist at my health food store said that the "30s" were usually for adults. Please advise.
