A hyper child

What is the most effective remedy to calm down a hyper, overactive child in the evening?

We have the same routines every night, but sometimes legs keep on moving and a child just can't calm down.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Dear Snowflake:
About hyperactivity in children, I've read many times has relation with the diet. Foods like chocolat or another products from pastry contains aditives and conservants that can produce excitantion in the children organism.
If you can modify his diet, you have a good chance to drive his hyperactivity.
If you give more details about his behavior along the day, and his whises and phobias, perhaps we can find a remedy.
Please, write us about him wiht the maximum detail you can.
Regards
Andrés

Thanks Andres for answering.

The boy is 4 years old and is not hyperactive type,he is calm and sweet. He was at the age 2 and 3 treated by Calc Carb for longer period because of waking up ten times a night. Now he wakes up only once or twice, when he comes by me (I don't know what time, because he does not wake me up).

He is the type who can be up no matter how late, and who likes to sleep in. Sometimes he energylevel just grows towards the evening, and he does not want to calm down, sometimes he wants to calm down, but just cannot do it.

I think he is often afraid of something, because he wants to leave the door of the room open and lights on in another room.

I don't give sugar in the evenings, because I don't want to add the hyperactivity. He eats a warm meal around 6 pm (like soup, potatos and meatballs, pasta bolognese, rice and chicken etc), sometimes a piece of rye bread and drinks milk or tea at 7 pm. He does not have very good appetite.
Actually I have not paid attention if he has eaten differently those evenings he cannot fall asleep. Maybe.

I was thinking if there would be Coffea or something else to calm him down.

Dear Snowflake:
I've repertorized three symptoms:
insomnium by excitament: COFF., HYOSC.,NUX V.,Puls.
-
scanty weak,appetite: coff., hyosc.,NUX V., PULS.
-
afraid of darkness:CANN.I., puls., STRAMONIUM

Well, Coffea doesn't cover the three symptoms. Nux Vomica doesn't match with the food he takes and his character and personality doesn't match too.
Definetly, I'll try with PULSATILLA.
If you want to try, I would use 200CH only once, and wait.
If there is any change in the symptoms, we can study; if there is no answer by his side, we can try to investigate more symptoms.
Best regards
Andrés

Ok, I will try Pulsatilla next time. The boy fell sick today, so it will not be the case in next few days. I'll get back, if needed.

Hello,

The boy is healthy again. I describe the sickness if that helps to decide the remedy:

When the fever went up at noon on Friday he was crying a lot because of headache. I gave him paracetamol and after one hour the fever was even higher, almost 39 degrees.
After that the fever never got that high again. It was all Friday evening and all Saturday between 38 and 38,5. On Sunday he woke up without fever, so that was fast.
He has coryza; has a running nose and some loose cough. That is not bad though, that needs not any remedy. He went to school today.

I was thinking of his sleep more. He is afraid of the dark, but he also sees nightmares quite often. Does Pulsatilla cover the nightmares?

Dear Snowflake:
The best remedy to nightmares in children is STRAMONIUM.
About his running nose, clearly it has no relation with his sleep problems.
PULSATILLA covers many cases of disturbation of sleep, like nightmares, but the kind of nightmares changes: STRAMONIUM nightmares are more vivids and shake the child; PULSATILLA nightmares only disturbed the sleep: provocates fear to the ghosts, animals and another similar. If your child doesn't cry in the night, I think PULSATILLA matchs better.
Best wishes
Andrés

I agree. He cries sometimes but the dreams do not wake him up and the weeping disturbs me more than him.

Also Pulsatilla is a complimentary remedy for Calc Carb which has not been working any longer.

I appriciate you explained this so clearly and throughly. I learned something new. Thanks!
