Gum Abscess
Hi,I have had an abscess for a while on my gums between the lower 5 & 6 teeth on my right.
The abscess is swollen and black/red in colour, when draining there is some slight pus and there is an offensive smell and taste in the mouth.
I am awaiting to have the tooth extracted; is there anything I could take for now.

If you do not have started with Mer.Sol. Please try SILICEA TERRA-200 One dose daily for 2/3 days and report. in case of Boils on gums. Abscess at root of teeth it is very useful remedy.

I agree that Silecia is generally used for abscesses of gums, but in this case it has already turned black.

At times Merc. takes on a gangrenous condition. This may be seen anywhere, but especially on the lips, cheeks and gums. Cancrum oris. Gangrenous chancre, foetid and black; a sphacelus forms in the chancre and the part sloughs off.

The teeth break down, lose their enamel surface; the dentine is made up largely of the silicate of lime and the surface of the tooth becomes rough, loses its shiny appearance and caries sets in.
This often takes place at the margin of the gum; ulcers form on the tip of the fangs. The teeth suffer when it is cold or damp; toothache in wet weather, and the teeth are yellow, decay rapidly, and the gums settle away from. them.
All the neuralgias and toothaches are better in a warm room and from hot drinks. Abscesses about the gums and face, better by warmth. Severe pain in the jaw, rending, tearing at night, better from heat; these pains often end in abscesses about the teeth. Sometimes relieved by pressure unless the part is extremely sore from inflammation.
The tongue takes on inflammation of gouty character; inflammation with threatening abscess, it fills the whole mouth; rending, tearing pains, worse at night and better from heat.

When two remedies vie with each other, I always refer the materia medica and select the one that closely matches the given condition.
If the blackness is not there, Merc and Silecia demand equal attention. But the fact that the abscess turning black indicates Merc.

Further to that the offensive smell in mouth is prominent in Merc,it being grade 3, and silecia is only grade 1.

Thanx for the replies; I have ordered some 200c Merc Sol, but I do have some silica 200c handy, should I start with that untill my Merc sol arrives?

No.Silecia should not be followed by Merc.sol. They are inimical to each other, and may lead to unnecessary complications.
