Autism and congenial heart disease

Hi Drs,

My son is 4 yrs now and diagnosed as autistic high functioning though. He was born with Congenial heart disease, that was corrected just after birth. His major milestones were at time, except speech which is quite delayed. He sometimes cannot comprehend what is said, other times just fine, has quite a sharp memory. We started GFCF 6 months back with good results, still on GFCF with probiotic, started ABA as well. However his recovery is not as we expected. Major concern is ability to interact and express himself. He learnt all his alphabets, no till 100 by watching video alone. He can play computer games and work on computer a little bit by himself.

any help will be highly appreciated.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hello, I am behavior analyst that works with children with autism. I just wanted to let you know in my experience, interaction and self expression are slow to develop in children with autism. He sounds like he is doing very well and he is only 4 yrs old. Just keep working and he will develop these skills. Typical 4 yr olds are not perfect at these skills either. ABA is the path to take. Good luck to you!!

Agreed with the above post. Perfect children only come from perfect parents. If he has self taught by watching videos, he's doing well
Best regards
