I have been seeing an ND for a year for treatment of vestibulitis. It has helped somewhat, but I am still struggling with it. Feel free to email me at help428@yahoo.com.

Remedies like Hepar sulph, MErcurius, Acid nitricum, Cinnabaris, Sulphur, Thuja, Syphilinum all act well on Lichen sclerosis but the remedy typical to you can be chosen by a Homeopath after taking a detailed case study and examination and a consistent follow up should cure your case.

Thank you for your advice. I have another question, does Candida useually come along with Lichen Sclerosis? For I have both, and when my Candida gets beter so does LS. Of course this goes the other direction as well. But I can't seem to get rid of the Candida. It seems to come and go.

Lichen sclerosis is a condition predominantly wherein there is a dryness of affected areas. This is an ideal foil for any infection and that is why you would find a secondary fungal infection very common in those areas.

I've had lichen sclerosis for about 15 years. Once it was biopsied and confirmed, 800 mg of Plaquenel kept it in check and topicals helped with the itching and burning. Now, over the past year, it's gone wild.
Most information seem to address only the vaginal and anal areas only. Ha! I wish. I have it in those areas but also on my breasts, abdomen, thighs and wrists. It seems to be spreading rapidly and nothing is helping. The itching is so bad I've even considered breast removal.
I'm back to diluted witch hazel. It's as effective as any cortisone, testosterone or newly market topical and a heck of alot cheaper.

I was hoping there'd be some more posts here. Well for what it's worth my areas are itching, red and sometimes bleeding patches when they first start. Sometimes they ooze. Some are red and look raw. As they heal they turn to white flaky patches. They actually look like all the various stages of very bad burns. There isn't anyone in my family that has anything similar.
My gyn want me to make an appointment at John Hopkins because he's never seen a case that's spreading like mine. He seems to have been more help than any of the dermatologists.

I know your pain. I too have LS and feel miserable night and day. It has spread all over. My breasts and stomach itch so badly. I scratch constantly. I have tried so many creams and medication. The biopsy sight has never healed and so that is painful too. I have been on 3 rounds of antibiotics. I want to see another dermotologistics for a 2nd opinion or at least to try some new meds. The ones I have been using do not seem to help. If anyone knows what to do I need to know. I have been using Protopic this last round. I also have big sores in my head. I have had 2 rounds of cortizone shots in them and they will not go away. I really am in lots of pain and itching. HELP!

To brownglory,

I have been on Renova medication. I use it every other day...just a very tiny amount. It is helping alot. Its only been 3 wks. and alot of times I don't even remember I have any condition. It is helping alot. Need to get to doctor, and get a biopsy, and get prescription.

Also I've been getting alot of prayers from my church. I can't tell anybody more than "skin condition", please pray for me. But, its been helping lots!!

Good luck to everyone. Thanks.

Hi. I just wanted to say, this is a really awful thing to have to experience. I was having a couple of good weeks, but its gotten a little hard to deal again.

I recommend, if the itching gets really unbearable, the use of an ice pack.

Urine burns really alot, so I dab with a cold wet washcloth after using bathroom. I don't use soap on the affected area either, as it burns too much. I rinse well with a shower wand. I wash *around* the area with Dove soap, which is rather mild.

I am just trying to deal with the situation, and I use the medication, and take a pain pill when I am too uncomfortable, or cannot sleep because of it. The Renova is supposed to put a person into a remission after about six months generally. I've only been on it for about 4 wks., but I can already notice a marked improvement...even though I am still suffering, and this is not all that easy to go through.

Hope this helps somebody. Thanks.

I have been diagnosed today as having Lichen Sclerosis and I am amazed at the UK's health professionals lack of knowledge. I am gutted to discover over the internet this is a condition that I will have for the rest of my life!! My GP and obstetric consultent failed to inform me of the outcomes! Probably due to a lack of knowledge. In my case the area affected is in the nether reigions and no where elce (at the moment) Can it spread? I had surgery in January of this year as I was having constant bleeding however it has taken 6 months to get someone to take me seriously and get a diagnosis. I am so dissapointed and the only treatment I am being offered is with steroid ointments If anyone has any ideas at what elce can be used I would be greatful if you would post them on this forum. Thanks

to Josucr,

There is something for the skin other than steroids. It is called Renova. It is used to help people get rid of wrinkly skin, and it works for what we have too. It eventually can change the skin back to the way its supposed to be instead of being thin, wrinkly, delicate, itchy like crazy, etc. I've been using it for going on two months, and I am SOOO much better! Get online and research. No one knows how it starts. There are theories, that's all. It isn't catchy. And, even though it is "not curable" don't give up hope, as it can go into remission. Never give up hope! :)

I would like to know what treatments others use for Lichen Sclorosis and do they work? My Oncologist says that I can only use the ultrasteroid cream for short periods of time and then stay off of it, because continuous prolonged use can cause the steroid cream not to work. I find that I am iritated and sore more often then not. It would be nice to just be comfortable.

Hi,
Has anyone used Renova in the vaginal area? Does it irritate the skin? I know that if you have it in the vaginal area, you need to keep the area from getting dry with a non irritating ointment/cream. My dermatol. recommended crisco or vegetable oil. I have used a calendula ointment by unda that helped with itching as well.

I have been told by gynaecologist that Aveeno powder sitz bath also helps with itching.

I've just recently been diagnosed with LS. Since then I have been doing a LOT of research on the web. Of course I'm interested in medical treatments, but I'm also searching for knowledge: to understand. The most recent info I find implies a connection to the autoimmune system. If you're diagnosed
(biopsy) then you are already receiving medical care. But it helps to know what you can do to help yourself; to bolster your basic health to aid the medical treatments.

The two recurring, non-traditional items I keep finding are a) flaxseed and b) antioxidants. Go online and search for flaxseed and you'll be amazed at the info on it out there. I have started a regimine of 2 tablespoons (for my weight of 125 lbs) of flaxseed meal mixed with cottage cheese or yogurt. Something in those two foods aids in the absorption. Do your research on the benefits of whole seed over meal over oil over capsules. I am still looking for more info on the antioxidants, for recommended quantities, but there are preliminary studies out there that suggest this may be helpful as well.

Listen to your doctors, but be adamant about teaching them. They will not always be up to date on the most recent advances on any one disease. They don't have the time to thoroughly research any one malady. But you do!! Be a thorn in your doctor's side about trying new meds or other homeopathic treatments. Don't suffer in silence!

Good luck to all of us!

I was diagnosed via biopsy last week. My LS was triggered by a rectal biopsy taken at an appointment with gastroenterologist 1 year ago. I kept going to my doctor for 8 months with severe anal itching and minute lesions(she had no idea). It moved to the vagina 2 months ago and rapidly progressed. I am on steriods but think they will ultimately make it worse. Paraffin cools it down a bit but it is really burning. I am 32 and probably have celiacs (have all symptoms right down to enamel defects but doctors always said it was IBS). A stomach flu lead to extreme ataxic reactions to gluten and I only eat raw food. I also have what looks and feels like LS in the throat, moving toward the lips. All mucus membranes even around eyes have flared up.I am in NZ and feel very isolated. My specialist would not even look at my throat. I also have gallstones. NB I was a metalsmith for 10 years but think that a weak immune system will react to anything. I have heard that some kind of bacteria or fungus overgrowth could weaken the immune system and lead to LS. Why is there not some world survey going on to find a cure? How hard can it be? Obviously case histories like mine are helpful.

Try Beta Glucan 1/3,1/6 10 mgs. Beta glucan kills bacterial, fungal, and viral infections. My lichen sclerosis was caused by bacterial vaginosis. I had a hard time getting rid of the vaginosis because I became immune to anti-biotics-thus not killing the bacteria completely-eventually causing lichen sclerosis. The brand Solaray cells beta glucan at a reasonable price.Buy beta glucan-made from the walls of bakers yeast-it's said to cure cancer, hiv,AIDS,skin problems, herpes, arthritis, and other auto-immune dieases.I've been taking beta glucan and chromium picolanate for 1 month and I feel so much better! No more itching! Beta glucan is supposed to generate healthy skin growth too. I take beta glucan capsules 2-3 times a day.Try it!

Thanks again Roxy90.
I'm using Maximum Beta Glucan (200 mgs) twice a day for a month now. I feel great-no more itching!Thank you so much!
Also is beta glucan something we need to take everyday or can we eventually tapper off it?
From what I've been reading about Beta glucan-it sounds like it can cure many other diseases as well.
There are many websites with very helpful info on beta glucan it seems the ones made from cell wall yeast(and it lists the linkages:1-3,1-6)work the best.I would post some websites but I don't think we're alowd to on this one. There are also many non-commercial websites about beta glucan-check them out.
God bless you all,
Cyndi

I have found that pure Emu Oil helps to stop the itching and also moisturize and make the skin more supple... proportedly there have been no cases of adverse side effects. Thought I'd share this with you as I have tried some prescription creams with no effect. I will check out the Beta Glucan... sounds interesting.
