Need Help on Constant cough with 3 year old
Sabra and others,I hhave a 3 ½ years old 32 lbs, 39 inches tall who has the following symptoms.
Symptoms:
Short dry cough during day/night, stays for 1 to 2 hours each time. I keep her upright, give water, Sualin, eating anything does not help. At night cough sounds dry, sometimes gets violent and gets relieved by vomiting.
Cough started three months back after she had sour throat and cold which she gets quite often, every three to four weeks. Right now her nose and throat are clear, just dry cough. Since her three months her cough times are variable. Initially it was cough during sleep only (day or night) after about an hour of sleep. With putting her upright and water vomiting could be controlled. This went on for a long time. 10 days back cough in the evening after dinner (8 10 PM). Because she is walking at that time so she does not throw up. The cough stops on lying down and having milk followed by sleep.
Now she is coughing during the day also, one to two hours and is also wheezing. I gave her broncho dialator with Albutrol which helps. She is happy child and continues with her regular activities even when she is coughing. Right now the temperature is below freezing and so I feel mold can not be the cause. We keep the indoor temperature at 70 F with an external humidifier to control the humidity. We do not have pets and our house is kept clean and dust free. Her symptoms appear to be very similar to Sachi when she was diagnosed with Asthma (at the age of 2 ½ years, she is 9 now).

Dear Piyush, Wish you would not get her used to the inhaler. I have so many adults now emotionally attached to them, unable to give them up. Even no longer suffering from any true chest condition.
When a child has a coughing episode that ends with vomiting it is often IPECACUANHA.
The most common asthma remedy is ARSENICUM ALBUM. Caugh is dry, worse at 3am and a feeling of restless heat. Wants to be upright. One can give a dose at first sign and see if relief. 200X or higher.
This child, while it is true that family genes may play a part, may also be copy-cat(ing) her older sister. This happens quite often. After all it gets attention????
Please let us know if any changes.

Thanks for the reply, we have tried Arsenic Album 1M during the coughing episodes, but it does not seem to help much. BTW other than these two girls there is no family history of Asthma on either sides. Also I am look for a homeopathic doctor in the Kansas City metro area. Any help will be appreciated.

I am sorry I do not know any H. doctors there. Call around to acupuncturist and Health stores, ask.
Meanwhile, have you tried LYCOPODIUM? This is good for evening conditions. Also has the sore throat and severe cough. Colicky babies.
What is the discription of "sour" throat? Symptoms?
Let's see what we can do while you look for local practitioner or doctor. Leary of MDs that do homeopathy, they are very inflexable, but worth at least trying.

Thanks Sabra, and sorry for the typo on sour, it is sore throat. I will try LYCOPODIUM. Do you know what potency should we try?
Also what should we give her when she is wheezing that can be heard without a stethoscope (as an alternative to inhaler), which can relieve her wheezing and cough associated with wheezing.

If a homeopathic remedy is correct, it takes care of the wheezing as well as the cough.
The large problem here is that if we could see the person, adult or child, our replies would be so much better.
Some parts of the country use odd words to discribe, so this is what I thought, no harm.
It would be helpful if you could see the throat and report its appearance. Redish, bluish, Whitish, Swollen. Swollen is important.
I usually suggest 30X or 200X for children, but sometimes one can only get one potency. Usually I say take it, never having had a problem.
It took 6 months before we found the right remedy for my asthmatic baby, and we were consulting a H. Dr. So, take heart and lets talk often.

Thanks for the reply, she does not have any swelling in the throat. I have ordered LYCOPODIUM and the mean while we have beed giving her Kali Carb and that seems to be helping a little (3 X day).
Also three weeks ago she had gotten conjunctivites three weeks ago and it looks like it is coming back (along with a clear running nose).

Here is the update:
Our 3 year old continues to cough at least once a day for about an hour. It is mostly dry cough and it does not look like she has mucus in the chest, even though her chest does seem a little heavy. We have given her IPECACUANHA but it does not seem to help.
