Att: Dr. Sameer - looking for a constitutional remedy

Dear Dr Sameer,

I have been advised to contact you. I have been trying to find a consitutional remedy for my 8,5 yrs old son without succeeding.

He needs a constitutional remedy because of:

1. dry skin with eczema: he has had eczema ever since he was 1 yrs old. At the age of 1-3 he had a foodallergy of wheat and got eczema from it. After 3 he had had eczema mainly behind knees and joints in arms. But this winter he has been worse than ever: all skin is like sandpaper, no thick lotion helps. And there are spots of eczema also on the back and on the stomack.

2. learning difficulties
- he mixes left and right. Difficulties learning the time: is is before or after the hour. Learning to read and write has been slow and difficult. (No problem with mathematics).
- As a baby he had all the milestones in time. Still learns everything else in time - except the teeth come very late.

3. Difficult behavior.

Appearance: quite tall, slim, blue eyes and blond hair. Big teeth.

Cravings: sour, lemon, pickles, hot and spicy, salt
Dislikes: sweets, pork
Appetite: very good. Eats everything and a lot (but still thin). Does not drink a lot, specially not water.

Sleep: normally very good, no nightmares. But keeps scratching the itching skin. Starts sleeping under cover on the right side, but at night kicks the blanket off and sleeps on his back wide open. Keeps moving a lot - his bed is up high and I scare he falls down some night.

Temperature: warm, even when it is very cold.

Aggravations:
-The eczema is worse at winter
- The behavior is worse when he gets frustrated or when does not like what is being done
- Sometimes gets car sick

Special features:
-He keeps moving all the time, ever since he was a baby. He cannot stay still if there is nothing to do. Sitting is very difficult; moves around, scratches, moves again.
- he collects money. Saves everything and is real uncle scrooge.
- does not care about details. That is the reason he looks messy and the schoolbooks are soooo messy.
- good at building legos and has an architectual talent of building things out of cartoon (otherwise not artistic)
- likes sports, legos, building houses of of wood, listening books, Star Wars,
- lives a lot in his dream world of Star Wars
- is so worried that he does not know what he will do when he grows big. Last time he wanted to became a scientist in Galapagos and do a research on turtles. But then he heard it is not well paid and gave up that idea
- always been a difficult child, specially at the age of 4-5 when I thought I will throw him out... When he does not want to do something, he won't cooperate.

Charachter: He is Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde:
- His level of thinking is high, already at this age he can do the abstract and philosophical thinking. Keeps listening what adults speak and understands a lot: Today was describing what 'nothing' looks like. Wants to look at tv-news and is worried about the economical crisis in the case if he cannot buy/get legos.
- Always wants to know 'why'. Loves to watch from tv documents of history and of nature
- strong-willing and sets goals for himself
- amazingly brave child. Has no fears.
- talkative and knows a lot.

But also he is:
- Irritating. The grandfather says he is arrogant
- He cannot control himself. He just goes over the line: when 'game-fighting', he cannot stop in time. When he was younger he was yelling and shouting everytime he did not get what he wanted. Now he has learned to control himself a bit, but still it is difficult: he cries of anger that he is so furious. (otherwise never cries)
- lack of social skills: he has not many friends. When the friend takes the opposite side at 'game-fighting' he gets really hurt and does not want to be his friend anymore. Does not want to make compromises, rather plays alone that something he does not like. Is a lot alone, even though misses friends.
- this past autumn has gained an attitude 'I don't care' for almost everything.
- Puts himself above others. 'I have 400 euros' 'At christmas I received something value of 150e'... If he has something he goes showing it around.
- Ifeel he tells lies easily, but I am not 100% sure of that.

History of remedies:
- At the age 4 I gave Causticum (because of the ear wax) for a year and that helped and lot his behavior and made him more cooperative.
- At the age of 5 at this forum he was advised to give Sulphur 200c in three consecutive days - he became really difficult and violent. Needed an antidote.
- During this last year I have given several times Nat Mur 200 c and that helps the salt craving and the general dry look. Two weeks ago I gave Nat Mur 200c twice, but did not have any effect on skin. Has been happy though ever since.
- One month ago I gave Petroleum 200 c - but did not have any help.

Please advise,

Maria

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hi Maria,

Please give him a total of 3 doses of Sulphur 30c to be given equally spaced by 30 minutes on a single day as described below.

Dissolve 2 pellets of Sulphur 30c in a 250 ml spring water bottle. You can shake it gently after they have dissolved.

A teaspoon from this bottle using a disposable spoon is 1 dose.

This is to be done for one day ONLY.

Let me know in 10 days after these 3 doses.

Please follow the restrictions below.

Restrictions:

1/. Nothing should enter the mouth for 40 minutes prior to, or after taking the remedy.
2/. Do not touch the tablets with your hands, tip them into the cap of the container they came in and then into the water .
3/. Avoid coffee, tea (including green), and other sources of caffeine such as some fizzy drinks and large amounts of chocolate, except where this would cause a drastic change in consumption
4/. Avoid wearing perfume/aftershave, or exposure to anything with a strong smell on the day and 3 days following the remedy administration. This includes any and all essential oils, and incense.
5/. Avoid the consumption of excessively spicey foods
6/. The use of medicinal herbs, either as 'teas' or supplements should be avoided during Homoeopathic treatment, as should the use of over the counter medication, unless this has been recommended by an MD.
7/. Nothing of a medicinal nature should be applied to the skin

Sameer,

I gave Sulphur as advised 10 days ago.

The skin started improving by itself BEFORE I gave Sulphur. The day I gave the remedy, the skin was just dry, not dry as sandpaper - as I described before.

After 3 days the boy got suddenly new eczema to the joints of arms. He was scratching the arms until bleeding. The next day the skin on the joints was cracking like desert, but the cracking was over the following day.
The skin never cracks, so I am quite sure that was due to Sulphur.

In general the skin has the same condition as before giving Sulphur. Dry, itchy, red spots on chest, itchy behind knees and arms. MAYBE it is not THAT itchy, but I am not sure.

Four days after giving Sulphur I noticed that the boy was in a remarkably good mood. That continued five days. Also my husband paid attention on that good mood (he did not know I gave Sulphur).

Yesterday the boy fell sick as the whole family is - and the good mood is gone and he is easily irritated. His nose is running and he is very pale.

What do you say of this? How to proceed? I also want to ask, why you asked to solve the pellets in water?

FYI: I want to tell more about the last time the boy was giving Sulphur: he was not given 200 c thrice right away. First he got 30 c thrice, but I cannot remember was it once or twice.

Hi Maria,

The improvement in mood immediately after taking the remedy and worsening of skin condition points to the direction of cure.

Remedies act gentler when dissolved in water. Also, they act faster as they come into contact with more nerve endings.

Please keep waiting and update me in 1 week from now.

Please procure Sulphur 200c, but do not administer it till I tell you to.

Hi Sameer,

It is only 4 days I wrote you last time. The boy's skin is quite bad.

The skin flamed up yesterday. The joints in arms and legs are red, itchy, and even bleeding after scratching. Behind knees the skin is uneven, like pimples and they do itch.
What is odd and new, is that there is patches of eczema on both shoulders - I have never seen eczema only on shoulders.
(Also under nose there is rush - because he has been blowing his nose.)

He is not sick, but he keeps blowing his nose every now and then. Otherwise he is energetic and acting normally.

The weather is dry, below zero degrees and that dries out the skin even more. I put lotion twice a day. Itching disturbs nightsleep - I have to do something. Please advise.

Dear Maria,

Skin condition can worsen during homeopathic treatment, and right now, I would just recommend waiting for a few days.

Do not give any remedy right now. You can apply coconut oil or something natural. Mo medicated creams.

Sameer

sameervermani last decade
I mean 'NO' medicated creams.

sameervermani last decade
Hi Sameer,

I MYSELF know that no medical creams - but the father doesn't take that order...He says he wants to sleep at nights and not listen the boy scratching himeself until bleeding.
Well, yesterday I told him not to put stereoids, but tonight I will not be at home, so unfortunately I cannot look over that.

This morning the skin was not worse, though. Hopefully it will not get worse.

Hi Sameer,

Now the 7 days are over.

The skin is the same condition as when we started: very dry. The eczema that came a few days ago went by (without any medicated creams). Today there is no red patches on shoulders - the skin is just very, very dry. Even the skin behind knees is ok.

Maybe I should not say that 'the skin is ok'. Because the grandmother was just today saying, how terrible and dry the skin is. She is an outsider and compares his skin with a totally healthy skin. When I say 'the skin is ok', I mean that I have seen the skin much worse. 'OK' means to me, that one can survive with that kind of skin.

I admit I was horrified earlier, because he was crying when I put neutral lotion on the red and bleeding skin.

How do we proceed?

Tell me about the mental state, as that will give us the clue as to when the remedy needs to be repeated.

sameervermani last decade
Hi,

Mental state... he is 'normal'.
- Lives in his dreamworld of Star Wars when he is playing. With a sword or with legos together with brother or alone.
- Has been a lot alone all week. Has not been looking for a friend after school.
- when nothing to do (like yesterday at grandparents') he was soooo lazy and just looked at tv or read donald ducks'. He has NOT been irritated or trying to irritate his brother - sometimes he does that when frustrated.
- he is quite happy. Not remarkably happy like after taking Sulphur, but in a good mood. Has not been yelling or acting like a monster.

Our week has been quite easy-going. No highs or downs. Maybe I could say in one word that he has been more lazy than normally.

Maria

Maria&boys last decade
... to be continued.

I started thinking his mental state again. Maybe he is a bit depressed... It is so easily to unsee a child's depression.

I started thinking this because he went out to look for a friend. The friend was not at home and he is so misarable right now. Normally he is not that miserable if he cannot find a friend.

Please give him a single dose of Sulphur 200c.

Dissolve 1 pellet in 250 ml water, and give him a teaspoon from there JUST ONCE.

Report in 1 week.

Will do. Thanks!

Hi Sameer,

I gave Sulphur 200 once 10 days ago. Today the skin is 50 % worse than before taking Sulphur.

On the day 4 he got eczema on the joints of the elbows. Like pimples that he scratched until bleeding. That became a bit better after that day.

The day 9th: he was scratching all night long on the night between Wednesday and Thursday. I put non-medicated cream twice during the night but he kept on scratching.

Today, on Friday, the skin is a bit better than that terrible night, but 50 % worse than before. The good things are:
- It is not itchy.
- And there are not eczema on chest or shoulders anymore.
- The skin is not as dry as sandpaper.

He has been happy all week long. But I (and the father) has paid attention that he is very selfish. Two days ago he said to me, that 'you don't control me'. The following day I turned the tv off, he went and turned that on again, I turned it off and he turned it on... Then I yell and he stopped. After the incident he was in a good mood, but that kind of behavior - he can do what ever he wants - is not daily for him.

But: we have been on winter holiday all week. Who would not be happy on holiday? We have also been in sauna every night. That helps the dry skin a bit. And the water has been different etc.

In general I cannot point out that all these have happened because of Sulphur. Only the eczema is the thing that is totally out of normal.

Could you please explain how you interpret this?

One more thing: The boy visited a doctor a few weeks ago and the doctor took full blood tests to see, if he is in balance. The results came last week: all the results are good and prove that the boy eats well and the body works out well - except one point: the hemoglobin was 127. The doctor said it is not good enough for a growing boy. Then he took also Ferritin for the first time ever. The reference of Ferritin is between 40-400, and the boy's result was only 12!
He is eating iron at the moment. But I tell you this if it gives you any other kind of information.

Hi Maria,

Skin condition can worsen during homeopathic treatment.

However, let us see if the mental improvements were only there on the holiday, or they continue after returning as well.

Observe him mentally for the next 5 days and then report back.

Sameer

Hi Sameer,

The boy is still happy. Not remarkably happy like I wrote you some weeks ago. Just happy.

There is also something new in his life: he has a new best friend. He is so happy that this other boy says the same - what a joy for him.
They have been on the same class for 1,5 years and it took this long to get together. The other boy is very introvert, but this slowliness tells also a lot about my son: it takes long to gain his trust.

He has also been more selfish than normal. If he does not like what his brother is doing, he just goes and makes him stop. (normally he starts yelling, now he is acting).
One day I asked him to appologize. He said 'Sorry - but I don't mean it'.
This all does not make our life more difficult. And it is not very big change. But that has been more typical behavior lately.

One more thing is new during past 2 weeks: he has been sleeping very well. Normally he is an early bird: no matter what time he goes to bed he wakes up 6.30-7 am. Last 10 days he has been sleeping even until 8 am - and that is rare.
Good 11 hours sleep every night. (increases happiness also).

I want to learn more about homepathy. Could you please explain to me, what difference his mental state tells you?
If I told you he is more angry/more crying/ more happy /more aggressive - does these different states of mind change your interpretation?

...forgot to tell you about the skin.

It has calmed down since my last mail. But there is eczema all over on chest and on back.

What is different from the very beginning is, that the skin is not that deeply dry anymore. There is humidity now.

:-) I try to remember that :-). I have difficult time remembering this: last time we were seeing a doctor, who was late for 40 minutes and very slow in her movements - the boy let the doctor know all this...'yes, doctor, my children are so well-behaving...'.

I don't make my children to appologize all the time. But the little brother was hurt in this case.

Maria&boys last decade
Not meaning to interrupt Dr. Samer's excellen t advice, Maria, especially as it seems to be working, but try also rubbing rubbing honey on your child for the skin condition.

It may seem like a simple remedy but it works (after several days), for all kinds of skin conditions and even gaping wounds.

It was recommdned to a friend of mine by a medical doctor. I tried it or my niece for a stubborn heel wound she had that wouldn't heal, and she also rubbed some on her face to help clear up her pimples and both problems were resolved within days.

It may sting a little in the beginning but that will soon stop.

In the meantime, It's strongly advisable to continue the homoeopathic treatement as this will help to fix the constitutional cause.

These different methods of treatement are called complementary for a reason: because they all assist each other to work and in that sense complement each other well.

Simonc last decade
Hi Maria,

Sulphur is coming up most strongly.

Regarding your question, mental changes tell us whether a remedy is correct is not. Under the correct remedy the cure follows a direction i.e. from within outwards, from mental to physical , from physical to skin or other outlets...

So, under the correct remedy, the first thing we see is mental improvements.

On the contrary if a remedy were to cure his skin and make him mentally worse, that would be a treatment which has gone wrong.

Ler us wait for 1 more week, then we will re-asses.

Sameer

sameervermani last decade
Hi Sameer,

The boy is back to normal.

He has not been sleeping late during this past week. He sleeps good and deep (as always) but wakes up before 7.

His mood is normal. In a good mood, but gets upset fast if something does not go as he wants. He is like a timebomb - waiting to explode.

His skin is the same as in the beginning. The eczema is worse on arms. Red and itchy. Eczema on back and chest and elbows. Legs are quite good.
But the skin is NOT sandpaper like in the beginning. It is soft.

One more thing: my husband has had insomnia for several months. Mainly because he is so fed up with his work. And he is 43 yrs old - isn't it the time for crisis. Does it need to be cured by a constitutional remedy or like nux v, nat mur or ignatia? I think I am capable of finding the latter one, not the constitutional one.

Maria

Maria&boys last decade
Regarding your son, I will analyze this again, and get back to you. It seems we will need to change the remedy.

And...There is only one remedy which will work for your husband and that is the 'similimum' based on the totality.
