Interesting remedy - here are some notes I made in response to some of the characteristics of Hyoscyamus Niger:

'Easily startled during sleep' - not true she is a very heavy sleeper
Fear of water - not true - loves it.
Weakness of memory for what has heard - yes true for things just said, she couldn’t repeat - but will happily remember something that happened a long time ago.
Shameless - true - telling other children that she still wets the bed at night - no thoughts about keeping this to herself.
Periodically suffers from dry cough
Definite obsession with genitals - showing her bum - bending over and pulling cheeks apart - or saying look at my ‘bits’. Said today that she kept pulling her pants down to reveal the top of her bottom in school assembly whilst sitting on the floor.
All the things it says relating to speech and twitches, mind, emotions and behaviour are very accurate. Hope this helps.

Hom Int 1 - what are your thoughts?

Thanks for your help Vikas.

MrsKJsings last decade
Does she insists on water ( for drinking ) or other drinks to be cold .

What are her fears.

vikas_grower last decade
What about her level of energy after the remedy? Her appetite? Her consumption of water?

Would you describe her response after the remedy as an improvement?

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Vikas - no she prefers her drinks at room temperature. Her fears are dogs - she is very nervous around them, ducks, chickens, anything with a beak.

Hom Int 1 - Hi there, I haven't noticed a difference in her energy levels, also no difference in her appetite - she still demands food regularly, but when she gets it she takes ages to eat it. Her water consumption is always more later in the day - but I think that is because she forgets to drink during the day - especially at school, which is what happened yesterday. Then she generally wants a drink just before bed - not good, especially as she is still not dry at night.

Interestingly have just got an alarm to try and cure her of night wetting, it keeps going off because she is sweating - and it doesn't wake her as she is such a heavy sleeper.

I am sorry to say I don't really feel there has been an improvement after the remedy.

Have had a lot of frustrations and upset from her this morning with thrashing around on the floor because she couldn't explain something to me, but then I also had some good listening and following of instructions. She is quite a complex little girl, so up and down with her behaviour.

I look forward to your response.

MrsKJsings last decade
You have mentioned about sweating during sleep .

Can you shed more light on that.

vikas_grower last decade
Her whole body is damp, including her head. It doesn't usually disturb her, but it is setting off her alarm we have bought for bedwetting.

MrsKJsings last decade
Hyoscyamus also covers perspiration during sleep.

It also covers fear of dogs .

It seems to be an indicated remedy in this case.

But as you say it was not very effective before, may be we should then give Tuberculinum and then go back again to Hyos.

If you and Hom Intl 1 agrees then we can discuss the dosing proccedure.

vikas_grower last decade
There are some new symptoms here. The fear of dogs is an interesting symptom, etc. I agree that Hyoscyamus might be the indicated remedy here.

I'm sorry that I'm not able to give this case the time that it deserves as I'm swamped with work at the moment.

Vikas, if you'd like to take this case forward, you are welcome to.

Have looked more at hyoscyamus - is this the same as hyoscyamus niger? Have copied text from one of Sameer's previous posts and added true or false in brackets after each statement, hope this helps:

Indicated for difficult children with poor impulse control, even though engaged in premeditated actions; (TRUE) talk excessively with episodes of mania and rage that might include hitting and screaming,(TRUE)also inclined to depression after manic phase; (FALSE) can be manipulative, (TRUE) lying, and violent; (FALSE)seem unable to think; (TRUE) unresponsive to questions (OFTEN)or cannot bear anyone talking to them; (FALSE) intense and violent (FALSE) excitability with fear, delirium, and the delusion of being poisoned; (FALSE) feelings of abandonment, (FALSE) jealousy, (TRUE) suspicion; (FALSE) fears of dark,(SOMETIMES) dogs, (TRUE) water; (FALSE) delirious; delusions of animals, of being pursued by enemies, as if s/he might be injured by surroundings; (FALSE) sees ghosts, specters; (FALSE) very animated, seeming silly and foolish; (OFTEN) smiling and laughing at everything, (SOMETIMES) often inappropriately; (SOMETIMES) talks nonsense; acts out ridiculous gestures like a dancing clown or monkeys, (TRUE) trying to be center of attention, (TRUE) often with sexual overtones; (TRUE SEE NOTE *) giddy; (FALSE) love to run around naked, (TRUE) can be a totally shameless exhibitionist with bizarre behaviors for shock value, (TRUE) including cursing; tries to embarrass parents; jealous of their siblings, often may injure them; (ALL TRUE) cannot tolerate being covered up. Just today she spent some time alone in her room, when she came out she commented that she had done something she shouldn't - apparently she was putting small toys into her vagina and she said it was nice.

I will await to hear from you further. Thanks for your time with my case and Hom Int 1, am sorry you are unable to continue, but do understand.

Best wishes

Well the idea is to match the symptons with majority of the symptoms of a remedy and in that respect Hyos. Niger comes close .

But lets first give Tuberculinum 30 c .

The dosing procedure is

The dosing proceedure is as follows .

Pour 2 drops of liquid of Tuberculinum 30 c in a 250 ml spring water bottle.

Alternatively put 2 pellets of Tuberculinum 30 c in a 250 ml spring water bottle and allow it to dissolve on its own which will take some time .
.
Once u pour the drops in the bottle/pellets have dissolved , shake the spring water bottle very gently to allow uniform mixing .

Take a capful from this bottle .This makes one dose.

Wait for 30 minutes .

Take another capful . This makes second dose .

Wait for 30 minutes

Take another capful . This makes third dose

Thats it .

No repetition of the medicine .

We now wait and watch her behaviour for 15 days .

Please note that the medicine is not be repeated in these 15 days .

Restrictions:
1/. Nothing should enter the mouth for 40 minutes prior to, or after taking the remedy.
2/. Do not touch the tablets with your hands ( not applicable as u have medicine in liquid form ) , tip them into the cap of the container they came in and then into the water .
3/. Avoid coffee, tea (including green), and other sources of caffeine such as some fizzy drinks and large amounts of chocolate.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT .
4/. Avoid wearing perfume/aftershave, or exposure to anything with a strong smell while under treatment. This includes any and all essential oils, and incense.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT .
5/. Avoid the consumption of excessively spicey foods
6/. The use of medicinal herbs, either as 'teas' or supplements should be avoided during Homoeopathic treatment, as should the use of over the counter medication, unless this has been recommended by an MD.
7/. Nothing of a medicinal nature should be applied to the skin

Please also remember as explained that the 3 doses has to be taken once .
No homeopathic medicine should be repeated until the reaction to the initial dose is observed.

Well if the remedy selected is ok then the first sign of improvement will noticed in the first few days , otherwise no effect will be observed .

In case of any confusion please ask.

Thank you Vikas,

I was actually previously given Tub Bov 1M for my son and it was recommended for my daughter later if needed, I don't recall ever giving it to her though. It has an interesting picture and a lot of it is very much like my daughter, so fingers crossed for a positive response.

If I am unable to get it prior to the weekend, will have to do it on a school day, which will mean after school will probably be a better time due to time needed to administer all 3 doses. Will this be ok, or will morning be a better time?
Thank you.

MrsKJsings last decade
Morning preferable but any time is ok.

Maybe you can keep Tub. 200c also ready. However do not give it on your own.

I am travelling next week and may not have access to this site.

Hi there Vikas, I thought I would give you an update a week after giving my daughter the tuberculinum 30. So I gave it to her on Monday 7th - no change that day, no change on the Tuesday either. Day 3, 4 and 5 she seemed calmer and more willing to be co-operative, was very happy, saying yes mummy when asked to do something and very few if indeed any tantrums, until maybe day 5. In fact she was being quite sweet prior to that. This can be typical of her though, where we have a good spell and then things get out of control again. Having checked with her teacher, her attention at school has not been good and she has been interrupting and talking over the teacher a lot. (This is her first week back since our summer break). Have seen a deterioration over days 6 and 7 with some unkind, teasing behaviour towards younger friends 2 and 3 year olds who she has been shouting ’no’ at and then saying - no not really, or just telling them off. Then some strange facial tics, poking her tongue out a lot, or opening her mouth when she has food in whilst staring at you (can’t tell whether it is purposeful or not) and terrets like behaviours with sudden shouting, saying she can’t control it.

Something else to add, she has a fascination with anything to do with hospitals, accidents, death, always fascinated to hear about anything to do with car accidents, or dead animals. She has been very cuddly with me lately and seems quite remorseful if she upsets me. She was also talking about a recurring dream she keeps having about holding a newborn baby and then hitting it against a wall, but she was telling me about this in a sweet way - like isn’t that weird mummy, she couldn’t recall how she felt in the dream about what she was doing, and she said I wouldn’t really do it though mummy - she was quite sincere too. She loves babies and keeps saying she wishes I would have another! She also loves collecting bits of grass or bugs in containers, is very creative with making things and drawings - always making me cards saying she loves me. Was reading about the Phosphorus child and thought there was a lot of relevance with her. She can be funny, charming, engaging, loves to be centre of attention. She also gets thirsty at night, always wants to drink in the night (mind you it is our summer at the moment and very warm). We have a new bed wetting alarm for her and it keeps going off because she is sweating, but it never wakes her - it is so loud that we have to put our fingers in our ears - it is right next to her head and she doesn’t wake up!! There is nothing wrong with her hearing during the day.

Oh, one other thing, she is always changing the furniture around in her room, saying I wish it could look different. She often longs for things she doesn’t have.

Also she really isn’t concerned with the fact that she still wets the bed, she even tells her friends about it at school, boys and girls, but says they just laugh and she thinks that’s funny.

Hope this extra information is of some help to you, I look forward to hearing from you further. We are actually going away on 17th Feb through to the 26th so it is unlikely I will be accessing a computer at that time. Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration with my daughter’s case.

'Something else to add, she has a fascination with anything to do with hospitals, accidents, death, always fascinated to hear about anything to do with car accidents, or dead animals.'

Please shed more light on this.

vikas_grower last decade
She was watching a programme on television the other day about a boy who had been in a car accident and his face was severely mis-formed, she was very interested and as soon as it moved away from the hospital she was instantly bored. In the car she is often asking what will happen to us if we hit something. Will we die? Will we have to go to the hospital? What will they do to us there? We were travelling over a mountain road yesterday and she was asking if there had been car accidents there and where had they been. I was explaining about a truck which had crashed, she was fascinated asking lots of questions about how it had happened and whether the lady that was killed was a nice lady, she said that she found it very interesting and could we talk about it some more. So it's all pretty healthy discussion - but she does keep on. There was also a dead cat and she kept wanting to go back and look at it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Vikas, do you think the Tuberculinum remedy is worth continuing with? I only ask as when I was reading about a tubercular child it talked about them becoming easily fatigued and being a bit sickly - this is just not her at all. Will await your advice, I will need to get hold of the 200 c, I do have 1M in my cupboard - could I use that? Or would you prefer to go with the 200?

Thank you.

Here is some other info I picked up about tubercular kids:
************************
Tuberculinums not only have cat allergies but they hate cats! They hate animals and fear dogs. Tuberculinum children, in fact, have horrible behavior problems; they're mean, rude--the parents are often aftaid of them. Punishment means nothing to them--they laugh at punishment.

Does your child crave milk and bacon? These are Tub. keynotes. Your child is worse from riding in the car; Tub. kids love to travel;
*********************

My daughter loves cats and most animals in general - she keeps saying she would like a pet. Though she is fearful of most dogs, but when she gets to know them she can be ok. Yes she can be mean and rude, but certainly not all the time, as she can also be quite sweet and lovely - back to that Jekyl Hyde personality.

She likes milk and bacon, but she certainly doesn't crave them. She also hates being in the car, mainly because she is bored and wants to get to the destination, so yes she certainly has the characteristic of boredom and needing to be entertained - but once she is settled into an activity she can play really nicely without the need to go somewhere. For instance walking home from school she will persistently badger me about where we can go or what we can do, or who we can invite to the house. Eventually she will give up and sometimes contentedly play at home. She is generally happier when we have activities planned to fill her time.
Thanks.

MrsKJsings last decade
Well Tuberculinum matches closely though not exactly.

Tuberculinum is a remedy which also has power to clear the way for a drug which will match her more closely.

I think at the moment , lets stick to it .

Please give 200c and then we will judge the response .

Thanks Vikas, we are actually going away for a holiday on Thursday 17th through till Saturday 26th Feb, luckily there is a homeopathic pharmacy where we are going so I will be able to get the remedy there. I will post with feedback once we return. Thanks again

Hi Vikas

Thought it was time I updated you on my daughter's progress. So we gave her the Tub 200 on 22nd Feb, no change for the first couple of days, 3rd day I would say there was some more compliant behaviour - general desire to be helpful. However we should take into account that we were on holiday and she was having a lot of 1-1 with her father which I think had a positive effect on her. Her latest habit however was poking her tongue out, but generally when we were looking at her. We spoke to her about it as she was doing it to lots of people, she said she only did it to grown ups as they would tell her off. She said she didn't do it to her brother as he was cute.

On our return home, we had visitors staying with us for one week, her behaviour in school improved. She actually had a good friend enrolled in her class for a week who it seems was quite an influence on her. The friend is mature for her age, and my daughter seemed keen to follow suit in the class room. My daughter also proved to be a very good friend showing a great deal of empathy toward her friend who had recently suffered from the earthquake in Christchurch New Zealand. My daughter received an award for being such a good friend.

However, the following week her behaviour deteriorated in school, the teacher said she was either in the wrong place at the wrong time, or doing the wrong thing at the wrong time, generally very disorganised and still not taking on board instructions. Generally being naughty. She tells me at the end of each school day if she has done something 'naughty' - her words. Her behaviour at home has deteriorated again, well it is just such a mixture. Back to throwing herself on the floor screaming if something doesn't go her way. She definitely seems to be more willing to co-operate in the mornings, she generally loves responsibility, saying she wants to make her sandwiches in the mornings.

Other points to note - she adores eating fish and any kind of seafood - she literally shovels it in her mouth and loves being in the water - she is very brave, riding big waves on her boogie board.

She is always re-arranging things in her bedroom, often taking pictures off walls and replacing them with other things, or tying things together, she also loves cutting things up. She is also still obsessed with drawing attention to herself for bad behaviour, i.e. I poked my tongue out at the school principle, or just generally telling me when she has done something she shouldn't have, drawing on the school desk, poking her tongue out at her teacher when she wasn't looking. It is strange how she constantly seeks attention for bad stuff. She is however quite a clown and often has me laughing at silly stuff she does. She gets very hyper when she is tired, very silly and won't do as she is asked, just very distracted.

Anyway, look forward to hearing your thoughts. Sorry this is so long, best wishes.

Any change in her behavior/activities related to genitals.

Please also refer below on Tuberculinum aspects.

The Tubercular patient is known for his inner discontentment, romantic and longing nature, and constant need for change and travel. The dress and style often exhibit a romantic and poetic sensitivity. However, though the romanticism is very appealing, it leads to a sense of ennui and boredom with the mundane routine of life. The patient is unable to explain the cause of this dissatisfaction at all and may feel that it is a normal part of life. Frequent changes in the job, in relationships, in homes and the desire to travel are part of this same tendency.

Another aspect of the Tubercular miasm to keep in mind is compulsive behavior and ritualism. The patient may return knocking at the office door 3 or 4 times after the interview has ended with some slight detail he wishes to impart. This reflects an inner compulsion which can also be expressed in ritualistic behavior.

In children we see simple recurring infectious illness of childhood such as otitis media and recurring bronchitis, but also more advanced pathology such as failure to thrive, developmental defects, mental retardation and attention deficit disorders and hyperactivity. The child is unable to remain long in one place, is loud and very demanding and capricious. We especially think of Tuberculinum when the parents tell us that the child is coldly and deliberately destructive and malicious. He breaks his mother's favorite vase right in front of her if contradicted. The child may have great anger, even violence and tendency to strike others. He seems completely indifferent to punishment or reprimand. This miasm is also at the root of such conditions as mental retardation and even autism. In these cases, ritualistic behavior and head-banging are common expressions of the pathology.

Especially we think of the Tubercular miasm when there are strong allergic tendencies and respiratory disorders. Recurring, even unexplained fevers, connective tissue diseases and rheumatic conditions are also among the more common disorders found in tubercular cases.

The main remedy for the removal of Tuberculosis is Tuberculinum.

Hi Vikas, yes I would say there has been a change in her behaviour for the better in relation to the genitals.

Re-reading the information you sent, probably the only part that is relevant to her is the boredom with routine of life and the need to be constantly entertained. She is only destructive or mean when she is angry about something. This is generally not a big part of her character. I would say a large part of her character is the constant need to trick or bend the truth in a way that she thinks is being funny, but in reality it's just down right annoying.

- Other points of interest:
Is teaching her brother swear words at the moment.
- Said today she wants to be mean and beautiful - but she couldn't explain herself further.
- Often oppositional, I say that was lovely and she will say, 'it was stupid'. Or she might be muttering under her breath 'I don't like you, your stupid' when I ask her who she is talking about, she will say 'mummy'.
- When reprimanded for teaching her brother a swear word today and then immediately going and doing it again after promising not to - she said she couldn't control herself and wished she would die.
- She is often quite critical about my clothing, in a constructive rather than a mean way.
- I asked her what she was afraid of and she said aliens in her room at night.
- She also likes to hide is mischievous, likes collecting bugs and doing stuff with her hands.
- She often has really graphic dreams about monsters, once a crocodile ate me in her dream - she didn't seem too alarmed though!
- Have had some real mood swings in the last couple of days. We had been in the car a long time and were playing a game, all was fine and as we pulled into the drive she totally lost the plot over something completely insignificant.

Have been reading about Tarantula as well and that seems very much like her too, what are your thoughts on this remedy?

On the whole though, we certainly did see some changes - but as I say things do seem to be deteriorating again. With a real focus on being naughty and poking her tongue out.

I look forward to hearing from you again.

MrsKJsings last decade
In the long run i think Hyoscyamus would be the remedy given the comical disposition of hers.

Since Tuberculinum is giving some benefit , lets go to higher potency 1M .

I know you already have it , however buy a new one .

Dose it in the same way as Tuberculinum 200c that is one drop in 150 ml of SPRING WATER and one capful only .

Nothing to eat or drink 30 min before and after the dose.

vikas_grower last decade
Thanks Vikas, can I ask why you have suggested I can't use the Tub 1M which I already have? It has an expiry of 2013 so should be fine.

Does facial grimacing/tics and enuresis fall under either of these remedies, tub, hyoscyamus or tarantula?

The reason I ask is the facial grimacing, poking her tongue out and swearing under her breath - then repeatedly telling me she has just said the 'f word' (even when I am in another room) has become very bad. I understand this behaviour falls into the tourettes category.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks
Kirsty
