My name is Cathy, I am 48 years old & female and I am single. I weigh 72kgs, I'm 5ft 8' tall. I live in Australia, the climate is average humid & 26C-32C in summer and 12-16C.

In the winter and I suffer with sciatica which runs from my right hip to my right ankle. I have been suffering with this for about 5 months.
I am not diabetic. I desire salty food. I have to force myself to drink water because I'm not a thirsty person. My tongue and taste are normal.

My BP is 120/90 without medication. If I am hungry my pressure falls to 90/70. I don't take any medication other than pain killers and contraceptive and these don't affect my BP. Low BP is hereditary in my family.

In March 2009 I was squatting down to pick up a spoon from the ground and coughed...I bulged my L5-L6 disc and nerve compression resulted in severe sharp pain from my right hip to my ankle (sciatica). Together with Tramadol, Panadeine Forte and pysiotherapy I was over the sciatica pain with only a weakness and dull ache in my lower back. My hip often clicks into and out of place. Sometimes the pain is as bad in my right knee as it is in my hip. The pain also goes into the right hand side of my ankle. Also, after I sit down and get up from sitting position, I limp slightly.

I find walking a few kilometres in the mornings eases my pain. My sciatica pain comes and goes with the latest bout lasting 6-7 weeks. When the sciatica pain is bad I feel like I need a hip replacement. Only one month ago had an x-ray and CT scan on my hips and nothing abnormal showed up. The pain affects my family and social life because the pain makes me cranky and irritable, snappy, exhausted and angry. I find it difficult to sleep even with pain killers because I can't get comfortable. As a result of not sleeping well I get quite moody and impatient.

My family history is both maternal grandmothers had breast c4ncer. One had hip replacement and the other had 2 knee replacements. My parents are both healthy. Maternal grandmother and mother both suffer with constipation and take daily laxatives.

My education background is hairdresser, trichologist and in the last 12 months have studied for career change and am currently working as a community nurse in the aged care sector.

I desire foods that are spicy, salty and flavorsome, and I carry salt sachets with me at all times. If I feel my BP is too low I have something salty to pick me back up so I don't feel like I am going to faint. I dislike sweets other than when I am menstruating.

November 2009 just after I recovered from my L5 & 6 bulge with nerve compression I had my gall bladder removed because of gallstones. I find my diet had to change as there are foods which I can no longer tolerate. I cannot eat nuts, seeds, wholemeal bread & wholegrains. If I do eat them, I suffer with bloating and severe smelly flatulence with bouts of diarroehea. I am allergic to sulphur which is also onions. I like to drink alcohol in the weekend. Sometimes wine or spicy food causes heartburn so I take Pariet if I am with heartburn.

There are things that aggravate the sciatica physically such as twisting and lifting my clients. I ceased seeing a client with MND because the physical strain caused the sciatica to be unbearable with pain.

I am currently taking spirulina, vitamin c, evening primrose oil, and glucosamine on a daily basis. I have previously taken gelsemium from my daughter whenever i've felt a head cold or flu coming on. Homeopathy does work for me.

Urine, stool, sputum and saliva are all normal. I am never constipated.

I eagerly wait for your reply

Cathy

Hi Nawaz,
Sorry about my delay in replying to you over the Easter break.
Thank you very much for your help. I took the drops as you said but I took the drops for 5 days because I felt no better after 3 days. After 5 days I am free from sciatica pain. If the pain returns shall I do the same again?
Many, many thanks and good wishes to you.
Regards

To Nawaz

I am glad to see you prescribing Colocynthis 200 in the Wet dose for Sciatica.

As you may be aware this remedy is not commonly used for this ailment but I have done so for many years.

You may like to know that in cases that do not respond to Colocynthis, I have used the standard remedy Gnaphalium 200 in the Wet dose which has helped some chronic cases.
