The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Dr. Rishimba, Dr Joe, Dr.Sameer, Dr.Murthy, Dr. Rajeev : 4 yr old with seasonal allergies

I have a 4 year old son with seasonal allergies. He alternates with a very plugged nose and a runny nose. Come last summer he will get a cough, probably post nasal drip that lasts thru November.
Last week he had really itchy eyes. I have him Euphrasia and that helped a ton with a lot of his allergy problems, however his nose would just run and run. The discharge was thin and watery and kinda burning. I gave him Arsen Alb to help with all the discharge. He became VERY plugged up in the nose and slept terrible. Should I have stuck with the Euphrasia?
He very rarely gets sick and takes alot of probiotic. He is very tall for his age, incredibly sharp, of medium skin and tans very easily! He is extrememly outgoing and gets overly excited and fun loving. In the past summers we have given him alot of extra probiotic and some quecertin & bromelain to help with allergies, which helps some but not near enough.
What steps of action should I take now as he is very very congested?
Thank you!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Anyone who has ideas, I would certainly take them, but I would also really like to hear from one of the docs.
Thanks all!

I am happy to take the case and make suggestions if you like. While I am not a medical doctor, I am a qualified and registered practitioner.

Fill in my intake form and we can see what comes out of it.

GUIDELINES FOR GIVING HOMOEOPATHIC CASE INFORMATION

It is important to describe all your problems in as much detail as you are able. One word answers and short sentences are not particularly helpful. Discuss each problem one at a time, providing (as a minimum level of detail) the following information.

1. What exactly happens?
2. Describe all sensations and pains. Each pain or sensation should be described in such a way that allows us to imagine having the same pain.
3. What causes the problem to get worse after it has started occurring?
4. What creates some relief for the problem?
5. What triggers the problem into occuring?
6. What time of the day or night does the problem occur?
7. When did the problem start? What was happening in your life at that time? Did some specific event or treatment take place just before the problem started?

Move from one problem to the next, doing the same thing. IT IS VITAL THAT YOU GIVE A COMPLETE PICTURE OF YOUR HEALTH BY PROVIDING ALL PROBLEMS YOU HAVE, EVEN IF NOT CONNECTED TO THE MAIN ONE, AND EVEN IF YOU CONSIDER IT OF LESS IMPORTANCE. You should address each problem separately using the above 7 questions as a guide.

As well as this, please describe any traumatic incidents that have taken place in your life. Discuss anything that has had a lasting impact on you mentally, emotionally or physically.

Discuss the way that you manage or deal with your problems, or any problems that occur in your life.

Discuss any patterns you have noticed in your behavior especially concerning your disease.

Discuss any part of your life where you feel stuck or unable to change and grow, especially where this occurred around the beginning of your disease, or as the disease evolved.

Describe your childhood and the kind of environment you grew up in, with reference to your relationships with your family, your school experiences, and any serious childhood diseases.

If your earlier discussions have not mentioned these already, please describe:

1. The specific foods that you crave (not just like) or hate
2. The specific drinks that you crave or hate
3. What your sleep is like
4. How the weather and the temperature affects you
5. What kinds of things in the environment you are particularly sensitive to
6. What your general level of energy is like

Children's Questions:

1. What occured to the mother during pregnancy - new symptoms, illnesses, medical treatments, emotional stresses.

2. What problems occured during the birth?

3. What was happening in the mother's life around the time of conception?

4. What illnesses did both parents have for the 5 years or so preceding conception?

5. Describe the following features of the child

a) Body type and build
b) Skin colour and texture
c) Areas of the body tends to perspire on
d) Odour of sweat, body, stool, flatus, urine
e) Colour of stool, urine, sweat

6. Give any reactions to vaccines or medical drugs.

1. What exactly happens? Around spring he begins to get stuffy and runny noses, sneezes. Late summer congestion continues and a tickling cough sets in.

2. He never complains of pain with it, just that he feels like he can't breath with his nose.

3. What causes the problem to get worse after it has started occurring? Going to a different area (new pollen area)

4. What creates some relief for the problem? NO over the counter drugs allergy meds. Quercerin and bromalain help.

5. What triggers the problem into occuring? Spring/Summer

6. What time of the day or night does the problem occur? Congestion in the morning is worse. He is plugged up. During late summer the morning and late evening is worse for cough.

7. When did the problem start? About age 2 1/2.
What was happening in your life at that time? Did some specific event or treatment take place just before the problem started? Nothing particular that stands out.

Discuss the way that you manage or deal with your problems, or any problems that occur in your life. He prefers to always be first (and is first born) He doesn't do well with losing.

Discuss any patterns you have noticed in your behavior especially concerning your disease. Upon allergy season he become more whiny and slighty hyperactive.

Discuss any part of your life where you feel stuck or unable to change and grow, especially where this occurred around the beginning of your disease, or as the disease evolved. I don't have any answers for him (age 4) on this.

Describe your childhood and the kind of environment you grew up in, with reference to your relationships with your family, your school experiences, and any serious childhood diseases.
We are a close family. I (mother) stay at home with the 3 children. He excells well in all he does and relates well to others through humor.

If your earlier discussions have not mentioned these already, please describe:

1. The specific foods that you crave (not just like) or hate. Big meat eater

2. The specific drinks that you crave or hate -nothing hot!

3. What your sleep is like- better in winter, congested in summer.

4. How the weather and the temperature affects you. He doesn't like the cold weather, LOVES to be outside if semi-warm to super hot.

5. What kinds of things in the environment you are particularly sensitive to. Only pollen that we are aware of.

6. What your general level of energy is like. VERY HIGH!

Children's Questions:

1. What occured to the mother during pregnancy - new symptoms, illnesses, medical treatments, emotional stresses. Gestational diabetes (diet and exercise controled, no meds)

2. What problems occured during the birth? He was stuck in birth canal for quite some time. Eventually an emergency c section. Upon arrival his head was very cone shaped, but quickly resumed normal.

3. What was happening in the mother's life around the time of conception? I was an extreme perfectionist.

4. What illnesses did both parents have for the 5 years or so preceding conception? Mother had eczema.

5. Describe the following features of the child

a) Body type and build: very tall for his age and lanky.
b) Skin colour and texture- easily tans and free of blemishes, good color
c) Areas of the body tends to perspire on HEAD!
d) Odour of sweat, body, stool, flatus, urine - Sweat, I believe is salty smell
e) Colour of stool, urine, sweat. Stool-dark brown
Urin-yellow. Sweat- clear

6. Give any reactions to vaccines or medical drugs. Has not been vaccinated.

Thanks for your advice and help. Hope I answered the questions.

Thank you for answering my questions. Many of them are broad and only designed to lead me further into understanding the case.

Some of the answers are a little short and do not reveal enough to me. Unless you cannot do otherwise, one word answers and short sentences do not provide enough information for me.

So when he has a stuff or runny nose with sneezing (called Corzya) nothing makes it worse, nothing makes it better, in any way, even minor? It is exactly the same from when it starts to when it stops? You can do nothing to make him more comfortable in any way?

When exactly in Spring or Summer does it start? - that is a period extending for 6 months so it is not very precise.

What does the discharge from his nose look like - colour, consistency, smell, anything?

So he never complains of not being able to breathe?

The condition just started one day, out of the blue? Was he sick previously, had he been on treatment for anything, did you move to a new environment, did something happen in his life?

What happens when he loses (I assum you mean in games or play)?

What kind of meat does he most like?

What is his sleep like in summer?

What is he like when the weather is cold?

Does he never mention anything else in the environment that he seems to react to? Noise, weather conditions, stress, people, smells, anything that he reacts to more than other people do (not allergies but just general sensitivities).

Describe Very High energy levels (what does this mean)?

Was your extreme pefectionism something that only happened around the time of conception, or is it part of your normal nature?

What parts of the head does he sweat on? What is the sweat like (does it stain the pillow or his clothing, is it very profuse, when does it happen?)

So sorry for the short answers, I will try to elaborate. I really appreciate your willingnes to try to help.

So when he has a stuff or runny nose with sneezing (called Corzya) nothing makes it worse, nothing makes it better, in any way, even minor? Nettle leaf tea can sometimes help to allow him to breath some, but so far I can not seem to find a consistant relief. Worse: alot of gluten, sugar and processed foods (of which we try to be quite careful with as a whole family)

It is exactly the same from when it starts to when it stops? You can do nothing to make him more comfortable in any way? It will always start up mid April (mildly) and end towards the end of October. During the time periods that the coughs (late summer-fall) running makes the cough worse. Having him settle down and once he falls asleep ( and after it is midnight he will have relief from the cough). At this point Euphrasia gave relief to the sneezing and helped alot with his nose. I didn't know if I should have continued, but then decided to post on here first.

When exactly in Spring or Summer does it start? Usually mid April (when the weather gets nicer and things start to bloom)

What does the discharge from his nose look like - I have never noticed an order, but totally clear and very very watery. I would also describe it as thin.

So he never complains of not being able to breathe? He wouldn't complain of it, just state that his nose is 'pluggy' and he has to breath through his mouth. He rarely complains of anything. HE actually acts often as if he really isn't bothered by it.

The condition just started one day, out of the blue?
It started with a short naggin cough and that year we hadn't noticed any spring allergies. (it would have been the first summer he was outside alot - due to age) Prior to that he had had eczema that he just kinda had grown out of. Now, looking back we realize that it was probably the allergies, just a different form. He had not had any recent medical treatments. 1 year prior to that he had had an ear infection (the only one he ever had) that out of the blue came a 104.7 fever (literally within a 30 min time frame giving us little warning) and a febrile seizure. He was on an antibiotic for his ear but the only one he has ever had.

What happens when he loses (I assum you mean in games or play)? He will pout. However, if in a big group he will remain calm and keep a good attitude. He LOVES attention, but POSITIVE attention. He wouldn't do something in public to get a reaction if it would be negative.

What kind of meat does he most like? BEEF...steak, hamburger, meatballs, meatloaf....not chicken particularly and NOT pork.

What is his sleep like in summer? Because he must breath through his mouth he sleeps more restless and wakes more. More tossing and turning and less (what appears to be) deep sleep.

What is he like when the weather is cold? Stir crazy. Being in Nebraska, the snow and temps make it unenjoyable to go out. He lieks to be out and running and playing. Outside is very important to him.

Does he never mention anything else in the environment that he seems to react to? HE is fansicated with weather. But never mentions anything about the others mentioned.

Describe Very High energy levels (what does this mean)? He loves to do physical activities. He likes to be running, jumping out of trees or off furniture. He doesn't like activites that would just stay sitting unless he is in a big group and he wants to follow along and do what he is asked. If coloring it will be action and adventure. He loves to pretend and play imaginative games that are always of action (hunting, pirates, ect)

I hope this helps more. Please let me know if I need to send better answers. I wish I had more answers on what things have sent relief but we can't see to figure it out. Nor my husband or I can think of any life events that occured that would have triggered this.

Was your extreme pefectionism something that only happened around the time of conception, or is it part of your normal nature?

What parts of the head does he sweat on? What is the sweat like (does it stain the pillow or his clothing, is it very profuse, when does it happen?)

hi sir i m suffering from sinus since last 5 year is there any remedy in homeopaty

I also wanted to state that in the past most homeopathic remedies have had a negative affect on his attitude, making him crabby, negative and irritable. But we are hoping that by finding the correct one it wouldn't be the same experience.

He doesn't know yet how to blow his nose, so he wipes the discharge often with this hand over to his check and his check breaks out with a red patch. I can put vaseline on it at night and it will easily go away, but I didn't know if that helped.

we did not get any response

Three more things I thought of. He loved Chamomile tea when he was little. Could that have triggered a ragweed allergy?

Also, he prefers 2 pillows at night.

He is always asking what exciting/special thing we can do next. He wants action all the time.

Thanks....hope we get to hear back from you soon.

Apart from Euphr and Arsenicum, what remedies have you given him.

Can you describe more on the irritable and crabby nature - does this happen at other times (apart from reactions to remedies)?

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Euphr has NOT made him crabby. Phos, Pust, China, Ipec, he had had. (those were in the past for diffent things and hasn't had any of those in quite some time)

Crabby and irritable- not willing to do jobs, negative towards other siblings, unwilling to share with friends of his, not coorperative when asked to complete a task (even if simple) general attitude becomes negative. We haven't felt that way with Euphr and lately his nose seems LESS runny since he has had it. We are wondering if we should continue with it and in what dose or if somehting else is better matched for him.

4nckk last decade
Alright you do seem convinced that Euphrasia is helping him. If that is the case, you may as well persist with it until it either cures or it is clear it is not helping him.

Make sure you use a liquid dose and not pillules for repeat doses. What form is the remedy in currently?

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Well, do you feel by discription that Euphrasia would possibly be appropriate?

He orginally had 30c in pellet form. Now it is the first dilution (so 1 pill in 12 oz of water) Is that correct?

4nckk last decade
Euphrasia doesn't come up in the analysis at all, but the case is not a clear one and I still do not feel that any peculiar or characteristic symptoms stand out to direct me. As you feel Euphr has helped, it is probably worth pursuing that until we are sure it is not helping.

You need to get a small bottle, with a lid or preferably with a dropper. Place 1 pillule in the bottle with 5 parts water to 1 part alcohol. Let it dissolve. Hit the bottle firmly against the palm of the hand twice only, then place 1 drop in 1/4 cup of water (62ml) and stir thorougly. Give one teaspoon of this mixture to him, and do that once a day for no more than 3 days.

what type of alchol?

Any spirit will do. I use brandy or vodka typically.
