Paralyzed dog with Giardia! I need help as soon as possible, PLEASE! Page 2 of 4

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
My dog is not doing good. She still has diarrhea, not every time, but mainly around noon.

We went to the vet a few days ago and he prescribed Baycox. She got 3 syringes (orally) with 4-5ml each on 3 days. After the first syringe the diarrhea stopped for one day but came back the next day. After the second syringe the diarrhea stopped again but came back some hours later. The same happened after the third syringe which she got yesterday evening.

But today it is even worser, this morning she had no diarrhea but she had stomach rumbles and didn't wanted to eat.

Now around noon she again has diarrhea and something strange came out of her anus, it looks like mucus.

I have stopped giving the arnica during she got the Baycox.

I have no idea what to do now. Please help. Thank you.

Ok give one dose of the higher potency of Arnica.

Dear David,

my dog felt better on Sunday (June 12th) and Monday (June 13th) but the diarrhea came back on Tuesday (June 14th), stopped on Wednesday (June 15th), but returned yesterday and also today (June 17th). She has also stomach rumbles and whimpers then.

I have given her Arnica for 2 or 3 days (in the morning and in the evening) but stopped yesterday evening. What shall I do now?

I have also Nux Vomica 30C at home, could that help her? Please advise. Thanks.

We are focussing alot on the diarrhea. Has the Arnica actually done anything positive? That is the real question we need to be asking.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Yes we are focusing mainly on the diarrhea because it is the main problem at the moment.

No the Arnica didn't help unfortunately.

How does she act during the cramps, during the diarrhea?

If the diarrhea has been aggravated by all the medication and drugs, it is quite possible Nux-v might help her too. Do you have many remedies available - if not give her a dose of Nux

When she has cramps then she whimpers and she doesn't want to eat. However this condition can (but does not always) change within minutes or hours, then the cramps stop without obvious reason and she starts to eat.

Normally when she whimpers then I know she will soon start to poo (diarrhea). Since she cannot walk she often 'crawls' away when the diarrhea starts. She does the same when she needs to pee. But she often 'crawls' only during the day when she doesn't wear a diaper. During night she wears a diaper and rarely 'crawls'.

Sometimes she does not 'crawl' but instead she eats her own poo and drink her pee. We try to stop her from doing that, but are sometimes too late. She does that when she lies on her mattrass and wants to stay clean...

I do have the following remedies available:

ARNICA 200C
NATRIUM MURIATICUM 200C
SILICEA 200C

CAUSTICUM 30C
NUX VOMICA 30C
SULFUR 30C
THUJA OCCIDENTALIS 30C

SILICEA 12X

APIS MELLIFICA 6X
ARNICA 6X
FERRUM PHOSPHORICUM 6X
KALI BROMATUM 6X
Kali CHLORATUM 6X
KALI IODATUM 6X
NATRIUM PHOSPHORICUM 6X
SULFUR 6X (but only a few left)
THALLIUM ACETICUM 6X
ZINCUM CHLORATUM 6X

HEPAR SULFURIS 3X

ECHINACEA 1X

Of those remedies, it seems that Nux-v is the only possibly suitable one.

Thanks for your reply.

Should I give her only one dose or more (morning and evening)?

Finchen last decade
Give her 3 doses, spaced about 6 hours apart. Stop at any sign that her symptoms worsen.

Will do, thanks.

What is the actual damage to the spinal cord? What have the scans or x-rays shown?

It may go beyond simple first aid homoeopathy like Arnica, and need something more 'heroic'.

I have attached the x-ray from february. We have no actual x-ray but should make one next week.

2-3 vertebras are misplaced in the spine (or even broken) and might be pushing the medulla.

She has no control about her bladder and bowel and she cannot move her rear legs.

At the beginning (after the accident) she was also not able to move her tail but some weeks later she started to move her tail a little bit when she pee'd or poo'd. Also when she was lying in the grass and there was an ant on her anus, she moved her tail.
She only moves it when there is a reflex, but not when she is happy to see us.

Now she has a lot of power in her tail, but still moves it only when there is a reflex (not due to happiness).

So the bones have moved and are pressing on the spine then? The spinal cord has not been severed I take it?

So the goal would be to get the bones to move then?

David, I really don't know, I am not a doctor. I only saw the x-ray and I have no idea whether the spinal cord has been severed or not.

I am not sure if it is visible on the x-ray (or only on a CT scan?). Like I said we want to take her to the clinic next week and make a new x-ray and then ask the vet whether the spinal cord might been severed or not.

Dear David, I gave her 3 doses, like you told me. She was doing good the whole day on Saturday, no diarrhea.

She also ate her food on Saturday in the morning but in the evening she had no appetite (normally she always eats in the evening) and her stomach started to rumble.

We went to bed and she began to whimper. So I gave her another dose of Nux vomica. Her stomach continued to rumble and also she did whimper for a few hours. Normally when she has cramps then the diarrhea starts, but this time it did not!

In the early Sunday morning I offered her a little bit food and she ate it. She also ate before noon and later did poo (firm stool no diarrhea).

I didn't give her more doses since yesterday night. It is Sunday afternoon here now.

How to continue?

Finchen last decade
Repeat Nux-v once a day unless she has no symptoms, in which case hold off any more doses.

If the spinal cord is severed I doubt that homoeopathy will help of course. If the bones need to be moved - well that is possible, I have certainly seen cases where the remedies have caused the body to move the bones around.

Thanks a lot for your reply, David.

Dear David, it is Thursday evening here now and my dog is feeling excellent! Since Saturday she did NOT have diarrhea and since Sunday also no cramps / stomach rumbles. She eats very good and her stool is perfect.

I give her one dose of Nux Vomica every evening like you suggested. Should I continue doing so or stop now?

Thanks.

Finchen last decade
If she has no symptoms, stop the remedy. You can give one dose at a time if she relapses.

Continuing the remedy after the symptoms have stopped can create side effects.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
OK will do! Thanks.

Finchen last decade
Hi David, I didn't give her the Nux Vomica on Friday and also not on Saturday. Today on Sunday in the morning the diarrhea returned.

So I gave her one dose. Shall I give her another dose tomorrow?

Finchen last decade
Ok that doesn't sound too good. The symptoms should not return as soon as the remedy is stopped - that sounds like it is just palliating them.

Is there any other symptoms prominent (apart from the paralysis)?

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
She seems to have itching in her ears and is often scratching. But this is less severe since she got the Nux Vomica.

Finchen last decade
And she is nagging on the pad of her rear paw since a few days.

Finchen last decade
Ok get hold of 200c then.
