The ABC Homeopathy Forum

I need help with ringing in my right ear.

Hello, I am a 41 year old female. One year ago this month I got a pretty severe case of what i thought was vertigo. I was hospitalized for 5 days because I was not responding to their medications. I had an MRI which showed nothing. Then the ENT doc came up with Vestibular Neuritis. I have a constant hissing in my right ear. Occationally it's louder than normal. I truly am very tired of it. I have lost a little hearing in my right ear, although it's hard for me to tell. I also noticed that my balance is still not 100% back to normal. If i bend down when I come up, I usually lose my balance. The ENT doc told me that the hissing would go away but it hasn't and like I said it's been a year now. Can someone please please help me??

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Lets get this - you had an attack of vertigo, you were hospitalized; okay. When did the hissing/ringing start? What did they give you for the vertigo? (because I cannot think of Them getting someone into hospital and not shoving drugs into them.)
Now you also say your balance "is still not 100%".
You have to tell us more about yourself, as a person as well as more about your physical symptoms, likes, dislikes, thermal modalities(hot or cold preferred? What makes you feel better?) (Pl. check forum posts to see kind of detail required.)

The hissing was what woke me up in the middle of the night and when i got up some what freaked out, i noticed the room spinning.

I went to emergency and was given Adivan and Meclizine. I did not respond to those medications. Upon leaving the hospital I was given Zovirax and Medrol Dosepak and more Meclizine. I was on these medications only for a few days and the steroids a total of one week. I did not like the side effects.

I am more sensitive to heat. I am always hotter than cold.

I am a healthly person do not take any medications. Do not smoke, or drink. I am about 20 pounds over weight, but am very active in my everyday life. I just started working out and watching what i eat. I am what most people would call a "type A" very excitiable, friendly, happy person.

I have suffered from Virtigo about 2 times before. Not as severe as this time.

Regarding my balance, yes i still Do not feel like my old self. I feel like a person that just got off a boat. When i bend down or turn around quickly, i lose my balance. I also can lose my balance when i am in a grocery store and there is a lot to look at as i am moving my cart around. Is there any hope for me???

The remedy that seems to fit your condition most closely is Digitalis. Please look up the remedy and see how it covers you as a person.

Ear Ringing

This is from my personal experience, I am not a Doctor, however I have seen doctors at the house ear Clinic (probably the best ear clinic on the west Coast).

Ear Ringing is reversible. That is the most important thing to know. It is not easy, and it will take dedication but it can be controlled. Knowing this is your most important ally. Always keep in mind that this problem is beatable and that you will do it.

Ear ringing is caused by a combination of two things. Hearing loss and Stress. It is the mind filling in for the loss of signal from your ears. See your doctor for the hearing loss aspect. If you have been putting off
corrective surgery or other options, do it now!!! Do not wait!!! The more ringing you have the longer it takes to control.

The house ear clinic in Los Angeles makes a medication that will help. It is called LBC Complex PLUS (*C*). Take one in the morning and one at night. Also take Niacin about 500mg a day. The effect is not immediate it will take two months, and you must also follow the routine described below, it is more critical.

You have to remove stress in your life! If you keep the attitude that your life is just stressful and you cannot change, then be prepared to live with ringing all your life. Everyone can reduce the stress in their life. You have to learn to avoid it. Go to stress therapy, change your job, take up meditation. Just Do it! Learn to let go of things!

Sleep: This is perhaps the biggest single factor. You must get 7-8 hours of solid sleep each night. If you do not get enough sleep then all other efforts will fail. If you must use sleeping pills then do so. This is most important while you are learning to control the ringing.

Avoid areas that are loud and have disorganized noise. Disneyland, busy dinners, etc. At least until you can control your ringing.

Distraction: Do not listing to the ringing. You have To learn to tune it out. The best way to do this is the following. Keep busy: Play with your grandkids, go on hikes with a group of people, get involved with community
groups, or work (but keep the stress out). Become involved with life!

Become visual not auditory. Do not keep songs in your head, keep images. If you are listening to a song in your head then your brain is tuned to listing to the ringing. This is particularly true when you go to sleep and when you wake up. When going to sleep try to visualize something very detailed (with all your concentration) while your eyes are closed. Daydream, let your mind wonder. This will help you go to sleep and you will find that your ringing cannot follow you there. Often I find myself imagining something then when I get distracted and come back to myself it is quit, there is no ringing. Then slowly the ringing will come back. But this is one of the first steps. Keep practicing this. It will get better each time.

When you wake up is the most critical time. You must distract yourself and reset your brain so that it does not focus on the ringing. If you can stop the ringing in the morning then most likely it will stay away most of the day. If you don’t catch it in the morning then it is very hard to get rid of later. It is almost better to give up, and try the next day. One thing I do is to immediately put earplugs on and take a shower. Turn on the shower so that it is needle hard and place your face right up to it. Move your face back and forth across the shower so that it goes from ear to eyes to ear. Make the water hard enough so that you cannot hear the ringing anymore and continue this for about 20 minutes. After you get out leave the earplugs in
for a while and go eat some dry very crunchy cereal. Try trader Joes they have a cereal in a green box (flakes make from like 10 grains) I’ll get the name of it. It is cheap, very good for your and makes a lot of noise when you eat it. After this take out the earplugs. And go do something! Don’t say in your chair and wait for the ringing to come back.

Chew gum during the day, it helps to distract you.

After awhile this routine will make a change. Be patient it mite take a few months.

Eventually you will get a day where you get rid of the ringing. It might come back later in the afternoon. But don’t get discouraged. Each new day is another chance to try again. If you have one bad day don’t fight it. Just get a good nights sleep and try again tomorrow. If you are married or have a girl friend make sure that there is no stress in the relationship. In the morning when you wake up keep your eyes closed, (maybe covered with cloth) and focus all your attention on her. Make love or just cuddle. Once you open your eyes do the shower routine. Your mate is the best distraction that you can have. I have often not gotten enough sleep and woke up to ringing, but just cuddled my wife and concentrated only on her. I often loose track of time and when I notice it again, my ringing is gone.

You can beat this. It is as much a physical problem as a mental problem. Take each day at a time and do not get discouraged. Once you have your first good day then when it gets bad again remember that one good day and know that you can have it again.

Good luck.
