Learning Disability

Last year, we consulted a homeopath for my 61/2 yr old son, and after discussing these are identified
His defiant behavior towards homework and studies, expressive language problems, signs of learning disability, dyslexia, very poor comprehension, mild speech problem ,but his IQ test came as 140.

We gave Tuberculin, Bartya and calc phos in a order. We have seen major improvement in his attitude, language problems, dyslexia, speech etc.

But he is struggling with very poor comprehension, unable to follow directions to finish or stay on tasks, obvious and silly mistakes, repeating same mistakes even after 1 year, slowness in doing things including eating.

Once I posted in the forum, some Homeopath suggested Bach flower, chestnut bud. which I started giving.

Teacher comments:

1.unable to follow directions to finish an independent task.
Teacher explains a task in detail, what to do, how to do, he does completely wrong as if he did not hear any of it.

2. comprehension: Very poor at comprehension. Even after reading a book 3-4 times and discussing, doing activties also he fails to answer questions from the book. does not pay attention to details.

3. He feels that he is unable to do his tasks compared to peers, feels worthless and cries. Does not finish his lunch in school.Eats at home but takes forever.

4. Repeating mistakes, making silly mistakes: He makes too many mistakes in all writing, spelling, math even though he knows. When asked, he answers correctly but as an assignment he does mistakes. Repeats the mistakes again and again. He is doing additions from past 1 yr and still doing mistakes .

5. Slow to answer: response time to answer is slow.

Please let me know if more info is needed.

Please advice.

Thanks.

I can have a look at this if you like. I will probably need more information though.

Could you first tell me what potencies of the other remedies he was given, and the exact response to each one as far as you remember.

If you have trouble remembering which one did what, can you get that information from the homoeopath?

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
thanks for the reply.

Tub200c was given first for his defiance towards towards school work and learning. He responded very well and started doing homework and studies.

Bartya carb was given for his speech, comprehension and expressive language. Bartya carb was also 200c I believe. He responded very well. School said he needs speech therapy in the begining. But after Bartya they said he doesn’t need speech therapy. He still does some errors for letter sounds like Tr.. ch sound. For Try, he says Chry. Speech Physiologist said age appropriate errors, we will watch for improvement.
With Bartya, his comprehension improved a little, not significantly.

Calc Phos 6x: for 10 days 2 times a day for Dyslexic symptoms: He used skip words, jump lines, and reverse words and too many reading mistakes. His reading improved after Calc Phos was given.
But still his comprehension did not improve significantly. His reading grade above level text but cannot comprehend. Easy books are also to be read 3-4 times.

Lately, teacher started complaining about his unable to follow directions. My son is also crying at home that he doesn’t understand what his teacher is talking, he has to look at other kids to see what they have to do.

My observation at home is, he needs instructions also to be re- repeated and explained again which teacher will not do for one kid.

His behavior is normal and happy child if he is not doing any studies related work. I cannot say if he is daydreaming or not, he is alert when playing or having conversation. Instructions , he is not able to absorb I feel.

Did he explaining … big stories…(telling big stories to mam..regarding what happened that day in school) ?

Did he stammering words while speaking ?

he is able to listen a new song or a t.v. advertisement and can humming it ….or… not? (With almost same pitch and melody)

Child is not restless at usual times. But when he has to do homework, he doesn't sit and finish it. He gets up for water and after couple of minutes , he goes to bathroom, or drops a pencil etc. When he doesn't get something he wanted, then he cries and throws stuff etc. Usual times he is normal and happy.

His laugh is sensible. Not foolish.

Yes, he tells what happened in the school. He can tell a story if someone reads and discuss with him then he can retell the story, but not if he reads by himself, may be outline not the details or the sequence. If he watches a movie, then he can tell the whole story , but not a book.

Earlier his speech was not clear and used to mumble, no stammering, never used to finish his sentence what he wanted to say, but after bartya that is solved. He talks fine now, finishes sentence.

Yes, he sings songs, imitates some dialogues from a movie or a TV show.

He sweats a lot with even minor activity and in his sleep too. But no odor or stain, just sweat.
•
History of illnesses in his life, going back to birth?
He was born by C-section, he was in NICU for 3 days, since his C-Reactive Protein (CRP)levels were elevated and antibiotics were given. He used to get ear infections when he started daycare around 1 year old he got repeated ear infections and used antibiotics for 6 months, after that he never got any EI since then.

Pregnancy was healthy. No major symptoms. It was long labor then at the end did the c-section. He was born 3 weeks early.

What exactly does he say about learning things?
He likes to know about different countries, about animals, their types, breeds etc. He likes math too. But free learning where there is no performance can be measured or compared to other kids, testing in school. He doesn’t like reading, because he has no patience to read more text, reads slow, he doesn’t like questioning. He cannot absorb too much instruction at a time. Makes obvious mistakes in school, same mistakes when asked orally at home, he answers most of them correct. His comprehension is poor, we have to read even 3-4 lines passage also 3-4 times.

He is a child with no fears? I have never met such a child. Are you sure?

Fears are important indicators for remedies. In 20 years I have never seen a child that is truly fearless, and only rarely in Adults. Even in adults who claimed this, digging would eventually uncover something.

Fearless is also a symptom, since it is so unusual and peculiar. I would want to be very sure before using it to determine a remedy.

So the symptoms I have are:

Grinding teeth in sleep
Sensitivity to failure (?)
Slow eating
Domineering
Feeling he has no friends
Profuse perspiration, during sleep
Suppressed ear infections
Need for rules
Impatient
Must read same information over and over
Cannot follow instructions (cannot remember them what he has just heard?)
Feeling worthless
Constantly makes mistakes

You say he speaks about his dreams. What does he say he dreams about?

What animals does he most like learning about? What is his favorite one? Does he talk about certain types more than others?

Thanks for the response.

Fears: I cannot say he is fearless , but does not talk about particular or constant fears. May be I don't know what are his fears are.
Earlier he used to be scared to go alone in dark rooms or in the nighttime, he seems fine now after the previous remedies. He does not like to be criticized or reminded again and again.

He sleeps fine. Sleeps by himself even when he was a baby. We never had to help him to sleep. Never wakes in the middle of the night too. When he wakes up, he is a happy boy looking forward to his exciting day.

Digestion is fine. I don’t think he has any undigested good in stools too. When he remembers any dream, he shares that dream. Any normal dream, like going to a theme park or playing on this bicycle etc.

Animals: He loves all animals. Recently he mentioned that his classmate favorite animal is a horse. Then I asked him the same question, what is his favorite animal, he started first dinosaurs, then added dogs, cats, then added sharks, whales, the said in short actually all sea animals, then snow leopard , he kept adding one by one .. then he himself stated.. I liked all animals, pets, sea animals, amphibians, dinosaurs, birds . I cannot tell which one. He didn’t mention any reptiles though. He says when he grows up, he wants to be a paleontologist. And he wants keep all dinosaurs bones in the museum and give like a puzzle to kids, to make the skeleton.

The short listed symptoms seems to be perfect.

Please let me know if you need any information.

Dreams are not suppressed.

She is telling 'Sleeps by himself even when he was a baby. We never had to help
him to sleep. Never wakes in the middle of the night too.'
patient had no anxious dreams. he had problem with comprehension.

Because he is “almost healthy child”…(no major diseases were attached or Allothaically suppressed.) so he is not shoing other problems - Less case history due to good general health and small age.

My answer is OLEANDER

oleander had sexual dreams .....but patients is 6 years old.

.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What exactly does he say about learning things?
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

METERIA MEDICA PURA – Dr. Samuel Hahnemann

It is very difficult for him to read a learned book; he must red many sentences three or four times over, before he can understand them, because in spite of the greatest effort he cannot comprehend what he reads, but is distracted by other spontaneously arising thoughts, which always supplant those suggested by the reading. [Gss.]
While reading a book he cannot apprehend the thoughts conveyed by it, when with the greatest effort to understand them he thinks that he will not understand them; his thoughts then become confused and render him quite unable to read further; but he certainly understands all things more easily when he does not think about understanding them; in that case no accessory ideas occupy him, only the subject itself. [Gss.]
Voluptuous dreams, with emissions [Oleander had Voluptuous dreams, with emissions..…..but patient is 6 years old.. this may create a situation like ….”no nightmares but problems in Comprehension” at this age]
The food eaten the previous evening passed somewhat undigested and almost without effort
Burning in the anus, at other times than when at stool, also before and after stool. [Fz.]

thank you.

Grinding teeth: Before Tub, Grinding Teeth was all day and night time, even when he was awake or sleeping, constantly. As soon as we gave Tub, his grinding stopped completely when he is awake and became very very less in sleep , but still grinds 2-3 times every night.

Dreams: This morning he woke up and told me that he got a war dream between god and bad people. He didn’t seem to be disturbed or scared. He shared normally and happily like any other day.

Yesterday, his teacher sent his class work noting that he did not follow any directions to complete a task.
She gave few sentences on the board and asked them to list nouns and adjectives form the sentences.
He copied all the sentences as it is from the board. When it was taken back to teacher, she explained again what he has to do, then he went back to his desk and did all the work correctly by himself.

Looks like his processing speed is too low. He knows the answers but not understanding the directions on what to do.
Just want to remind you, couple of weeks back, I gave him Bach flower chestnut bud for 2 weeks. Now stopped.

His milestones crawling, talking are normal but he walked at 16 months and potty trained at 4 years. Until he started school, we never noticed anything different. Last year , he started KG and we got feedback from school on his speech, poor receptive, expressive language, poor comprehension etc. Then the whole episode started .
He has very good long term memory, not short term memory. Hope this info helps.

Dear Cvvek, I will wait brisbanehomoeopath’s opinion too.

The instinct for him to compare himself to others and to feel worthless, suggests that he actually needs a remedy from the Animal Kingdom rather than Plant, Mineral or Nosode.

On other other hand, I am intrigued by the suggestion of Oleander.

My suggestion would be Ambra grisea 200c, but I would not be opposed to trying Oleander at some point. While it doesn't fit with my idea of kingdom, it certainly does show some interesting similarity in the materia medica.

INSTRUCTONS FOR SPLIT DOSING

Firstly, you need to create a separate dosing bottle. Get a bottle with a dropper, 15-30mls in size, and fill it with a mixture of water and alcohol (5 parts to 1 part). Dissolve 2-4 granules or 2-4 drops of the medicine you bought from the pharmacy into this mixture. Your doses will be made from this bottle.

Hit the bottle firmly against the palm of your hand, or another elastic surface like a book. It should be a firm hit not a tap. 2 hits is enough to begin with, and should not be increased unless it is clear that it is needed. The water in this bottle will 'remember' the number of times you have hit it, so that subsequent doses will be stronger (necessary to overcoming the resistance of your disease).

Place 1 drop into an amount of water - I may start with anything from 1/4-1 full cup (62ml-250ml) depending on the sensitivity of the patient. Stir thoroughly and take 1 teaspoon into the mouth. Throw the rest of the cup away.

This is one dose. Repeat doses would be started from the 2 hits on the bottle.

Each step of this process can be adjusted to reduced aggravation or to increase the effect of the medicine. In order to be able to do this, it is important to measure each step (count the hits, the drops, measure the water etc).

Start with 1/2 cup of water. Give him one dose only and report after a week.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Ok. thank you.

Step 1: making mix and hitting 2 times.

Step 2: add 1 drop to 1/4th cup and give 1 teaspoon and throw the rest.

What should I do with step 1 leftover mix , shall I throw that one too.
Is it imp to add alcohol, is it any alcohol we drink?. Please confirm .

I understand that I have to give only 1 dose from setp2 mix. Means, no need to repeat the steps again for now. then report.

I will order the remedy and update you.

thanks again.

MomForTwo last decade
Only throw away what is in the cup. You will use the dosing bottle for repeat doses.

Yes alcohol is necessary for the longevity of the medicine. Any alcohol is fine - I typically use Vodka or Whiskey or Brandy. Don't use anything with milk or cream in it, or high levels of sugar or caffeine.

Thanks. i ordered the remedy, will report after that.

Dear Brisbanehomeopath,
Sorry for the delay. I received the remedy and gave 10 days back. Sorry for not following instructions as it is. I didn't make the split dose. But I made wet dose and gave him.

I see little improvement in the school work and comprehension with small and easy books but not significant. His handwriting became excellent all of a sudden, he wants to write neat now. He is not all doing well in the tests. He says he is getting confused. When asked at home, he answers fine.

He still shows some symptoms of dyslexia, yesterday he started to read a sentence “you’ll”, but he said “Will you”. I told him to look at it and read exactly as it is, he read “will you” only , even after making 5 attempts and said.. that’s what is there. Then he becomes so cautious and reads too slow word by word, in which he loses the expression in the topic and so cannot comprehend.

His math skills are poor too, he was learning additions and subtractions single digits from more than 1 year and still not making any progress. Kids who started later are into 2 digits additions and subtraction, some kids even started multiplication.

Still not following instructions very well even at home, as if he cannot hear.
Stopped grinding teeth in sleep.
Still sweats in sleep.

Please let me know if you need any information.

Thanks.
