GERD child please help

My 3 1/2 year old son was recently diagnosed with acid reflux or GERD, but I think in his case it's more accurately silent reflux or LPRD.
It all started with him throwing up orange juice if he drank it on empty stomach, when he used to drink it every morning. Then his voice started to become hoarse, the hoarseness fluctuates and sometimes it worse than other times. It mainly sounds scratchy not completely hoarse.
The problem seemed to start, or become evident when he started eating more food (his diet was not very good because he's so picky).
His doctor put him on Axid and told us not to eat anything acidic or fried/fatty. With diet changes and medicine his voice went back to almost completely normal within 3-5 days, then slowly regressed again. Not sure why.
Another symptom is he went from sleeping through the night to waking up crying every hour like he's in pain.
He's had frequent ear infection, and has always been a picky eater, or doesn't want to eat. However since being put on Axid, his appetite has increased.
I don't want to medicate him, I want to heal him. Please help

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hi- go to www.joedelivera.com and read about his gerd
protocol. He is on this forum but not on everyday. That
is a good start to handle the reflux and may be all he needs.

You get the natrum phosphoricum 6x cell salt, and
start him on 2 tablets 2x a day right after a meal.
This will keep the acid down in his stomach where it
belongs and let everything heal. Many people find relief
with this in one to two days. You can take him off the Axid
to do this. Make sure that he does not eat anything
for 2 hours before bed and you should also eliminate
chocolate from the diet and give that only once a week
as a treat if you have not already done that.

Try this and report in a few days how it is going .

Thanks for the information. I will visit that site. I'm hoping to hear from Joe De Livera to be more exact about dosing. I really believe in homeopathy, but when I have tried it on myself, I've been overly sensitive and seem to prove everything. I hope my son does not have this problem, I don't want to induce new symptoms in him, but I feel I must take this chance to help him.

You can talk to Joe on his site- and he is observing this
post? Joe? Please talk to this patient.

Cell salts are a sub branch of homeopathy. They are
very mild, and have a tiny trace amount of the mineral
in them. This works directly on the cells themselves
and brings them into balance and then the body,
food absorption, etc works how it should. You don't
have to worry about trying this.

Ok, I'm stopping the axid immediately. My son just woke up after 45 minutes asleep crying/screaming like in pain. He was drooling excessively and I think I cold hear the reflux coming up in his throat. It was making a smacking/popping sound. I almost cannot bear to see him in such agony, and am putting my faith in homeopathy at this point. I will go get the Nat Phos 6x tomorrow, and hopefully will hear from Joe about how much to give him.
In some of his other posts (for babies) it was like 1 pellet or 1/2 pellet. He's older but still a small child and am not sure if 2 pellets would be too much. I want to make sure to not overdo it, as I had bad experience with that in the past.
Thanks so much for responding to my posts, and the info you've provided. I truly appreciate it

I have bottles of cell salts here at home,
Usa brands. They say, children 2 to 6
years old , 2 tabs under tongue 3x a day.And may be used every 15 minutes
in acute situations. This is Hylands Brand.

For Dr. Reckewegs brand that I have it says - children 1 -5 take one tablet under
the tongue 4x a day.

So you see two tabs, 2x a day after the meal is well within both brand directions. As he
gets better you can reduce the amount and times. Sometimes at the start, with infants
they get as many as 5 tabs a day after feeding, and then go to a 1/2 tab and then
go down from there.

You can safely give your son 2 tablets of Nat Phos 6x Biochemic Cell Salt which is marketed in tablet form after both lunch and dinner.

If you have found that he is sensitive to cold drinks it is obvious that you should not give them to him.

Stop the Axid.

Hi again,

Ok so I'm going to go ahead with the dosing today, but wondering a couple of things. He's picky about what he eats and I don't know if he'll let me put the tablets in his mouth. Can I dissolve them in water first and put the water in a syringe? He takes medicine this way.

Secondly, I'm not sure I'll be able to find the arnica 30c in liquid form today. Is tablets okay? If not I will order the arnica online and wait for it. I want to go ahead with the nat phos today though as he was in soo much agony last night, it brings tears to me eyes. I am so hoping this works.
I emailed Joe, but did not hear back yet. I just want to verify his dosing and if its okay to give him in water or if dry dosing is better. Thanks for your help, once again.

Thanks for the reply Joe, I must've been typing my reply and did not see that you posted.

Nat Phos 6x will dissolve on the tongue in a few seconds but if you feel uneasy about giving it to him in tablet form, you may dissolve it in some liquid as it is slightly sweet and he will like it.

I have not prescribed the Arnica 30c which I give patients who present GERD but you may get it in the Liquid Dilution and keep it for use later if indicated.

It will do both you and your husband a world of good if taken just once daily in the manner that I have done for over the last 17 years.

Joe De Livera 8 years ago
Ok, I must've read on your on website about the arnica. I will not use that as of now then.

One thing I forgot to mention. He started to get a cold yesterday and is sick today. No fever, just congested. Is it still okay to go ahead to day as planned? Thanks
bwill13 8 years ago
Yes, it is ok to go ahead.

Hi again,

OK so ended up having to order the Nat Phos since no one had it in my area. I ordered the Hyland's brand 6x and overnighted it, so it should be here tomorrow. I cannot wait to try it. However, I was reading some other posts and someone said it needs to be the biochemical kind, which I did not understand? Did I get the right one? I hope so. I understand you are busy, so please respond whenever you have time. Thank you soo much.
bwill13 8 years ago
I live in Sri Lanka and cannot therefore answer your question.

According to Simone who lives in the US the Nat Phos 6x marketed by Hylands is the Biochemic Cell Salt.

If you find that the product is in TABLET form, this is precisely what you need.
Joe De Livera 8 years ago
You ordered the right thing. Cell salts are a sub branch of homeopathy
with a system of using them developed by Dr. Schussler. sometimes
they are called tissue salts, or Schusslers tissue salts. They are
in tablets and there are 12 of them that can be used alone
when needed or all of them in one tablet, which is the closest thing
homeopathy has similar to a vitamin. Hylands has a full display of
the 12 of them in every Whole Foods store.

Ok, just wanted to update. So remedy arrived yesterday afternoon, so I started with the first dose after dinner last night. He slept the first three hours of the night, uninterrupted! Which hasn't happened for a long, long time. When he did wake up, I think it was from nasal congestion of the cold and not the reflux. Well I'm hoping anyway. Very hopeful today, and will update after next 24 hours. Thanks again for both your help, so appreciated.
bwill13 8 years ago
Oh, I also meant to add that I cannot make any judgment on his voice right now, since he is pretty sick and sounds rather nasally. However, in terms of sleep, much better.
bwill13 8 years ago
So yesterday was first day giving 2 doses. His sleep wasn't as good as first night, but I think it was because he was so stuffed up from his cold that he couldn't breathe. I haven't really noticed much change in his voice just yet and was wondering how long that could take?

The problem is I don't think he feels the reflux except at nighttime when it wakes him up, so his voice is the only way I can gauge it.

Also, I was wondering. How long should I wait before and after meals for him to drink? I wasn't sure. I don't want to dilute his gastric juices.

bwill13 8 years ago
So his sleep was even better last night. He slept a whole four hours before waking and he wasn't crying in pain as he normally is. He just wanted to come lay with me, because he is used to that.

His voice is still fluctuating, and he still has the remnants of a cold. So still hard to tell for sure if he voice is sounding better. One other thing. His nose seems to be really runny today, when it seemed like this cold symptom wasn't present anymore yesterday. I thought I remember reading someone say their baby got a runny nose after taking Nat Phos? I'm just wondering if that is a possible reaction to the remedy? I know you are busy, but I just want to make sure I'm not inducing other symptoms in him.

I thank you in advance for any reply,

bwill13 8 years ago
This is just to reassure you that your son's cold has NOTHING TO DO WITH NAT PHOS.

You have already seen that it has helped him and it will continue to do so in the future as long as hde needs it. You do NOT have to give it to him if he does not need it even though it is a very safe remedy for GERD which unfortunately is not accepted by the medical provision who prefer to POISON patients with their PPI Drugs which have caused so much distress to regular users including irreversible damage to the brain which I have personally witnessed in the case of a doctor who was taking Nexium for over 25 years and who has had a Bypass surgery about 2 years ago from which he did not recover.
Joe De Livera 8 years ago

Thanks for the reply. I do believe it is very safe. I also believe it is helping and that he still needs it. His voice is not completely back yet. It is better at times, but still fluctuates. In the morning it seems the best, and after bfast seems to get a little worse. But varies throughout day. Before, it would not fluctuate, so this leads me to believe it is helping. I know these things can take time.

In terms of the runny nose, It seems to be gone in the morning, but back in the afternoon and evening. He takes the Nat Phos after lunch dinner, so I felt like there may be a correlation.

I believe this can help my son, but also have been told if a remedy causes a new symptom it should be stopped. I was wondering if maybe 2 tablets twice a day is too much? Maybe he would better benefit from 1 tablet after each of 3 meals? Or 1 tablet after lunch and 1 after dinner.

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing to help him. Thanks

bwill13 8 years ago
Hi again,

Unfortunately, I am pretty positive at this point that the Nat Phos is causing the runny nose, we skipped the midday dose yesterday (which didn't help his voice) and his runny nose was almost gone. I think I wiped it like twice. Then I gave him the night dose, and this morning his nose is runny again. It is clear and just very runny.

The upsets me deeply, because I know it was helping him and now I don't know what to do? I feel I cannot keep giving it to him since I've been told you must stop a remedy if knew symptoms arise.

Is this true? Could the symptoms remain permanently if the remedy is not stopped?

The next step is taking him to a pediatric gastroenterologist, which I don't want to do. I feel very hopeless right now.

Do you have anymore suggestions?
bwill13 8 years ago
Sorry, forgot to ask one thing. Do you think decreasing the dose would help? Maybe 2 tablets is too much for him?
bwill13 8 years ago
Joe or Simone,

If either of you can respond to these last questions, I will ask nothing else of you, and truly appreciate your knowledge.
bwill13 8 years ago
Hi, just try giving him a half tab after a meal and
see what goes on.

Sometimes a remedy can have proving symptoms if
there is too many doses given. You actually want
to be able to reduce the doses bc that means he is
getting well and does not need as much.

You have to experiment and other mothers went
from a full tab for infants, to a half tab and then
from 5 times a day to 3 times a day to zero.
