Parkinsonism

My sister Anila age 72 was diagnosed a five years ago as suffering from Parkinson's disease. I would immensely be grateful to any one who has treated a similar case successfully

Her current symptoms are as below:

1. Mind: Soft and affectionate nature, yet gets somewhat irritated with close relatives when they fail to understand her. Likes company. Keeps herself busy with house work despite her problem.

Physical symptoms violently get aggravated on hearing bad news ( such as the death of an acquaintance).

Fond of reading. Does Sudoku and Cross-word regularly.

2. Head: When seated, she shakes, or more accurately, sways sideways ( along with the entire upper part of the torso < afternoon and in evening, < exertion, < trying to stand up < hearing news of a death of an acquaintance > after standing and walking > lying down > sleep > morning.

3 Voice: Feeble especially in evening

4. Appetite : Absent, eats very little only because she knows she must.

5. Thirst: Normal.

6. Rectum: Constipated. No urge. Must take purgative to pass stool which is dry, blackish and knotted.

7. Chest: Breathless after some exertion - especially climbing stairs.

8. Extremities:

Stooped slightly.

Thighs often become rigid and painful. Cannot stand up on her own. Needs to be supported. But once she is up, she can walk slowly on her own.

All movements are rather slow.

There is no tremor in hands or feet.

9. sleep: sleeps late ( reads / watches TV / sudoku / cross-word)

Pathology: Low B P, Anaemic

Generalities: Prefers cold climate and outdoors.

History of the disease: started with cramps in the legs (calf) about five years ago and progressively increasing physical weakness.

Previous ailment: Pleurisy when she was 45.

Family history: Father had Pleurisy. No one in the ancestry is known to have had Parkinson's problem.

Current treatment: Regular body massage which she likes and gives her temporary relief in her problem.

Allopathic medicines for Parkinsonism

Past homeopathy medicines tried over last five years:

Mag Phos 6X and Causticum 30 for cramps. which invariably used to help her.
For Parkinsonism ( without success):
Gelsemium (200). Trio of Lyco (1M), Sulphur (30), Calc Carb (30), Sulphur (200), Phos (200),
For constipation: Opium 30, Alumina (30), Plumbum (30) - no relief.

Five Phos ( 3 does/day) - no relief.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I hope you are aware that advanced stages of degenerative diseases such as Parkinsons are extremely difficult if not outright impossible to cure.

Having said that I can try to find a suitable remedy for you. Before doing that, please click on my username to know about me & my prescription skills. Once you have done that, I will post my standard questionnaire for you to reply.

The true symptom picture is not available due to so many other forms of treatment already in place.

Are the allopathic & ayurvedic medicines working and giving substantial relief?

fitness 9 years ago
Twice she has tried to reduce allopathic medicine on my advice while taking Homeopathy medicine. On each occasion there was severe aggravation of Parkinson's symptoms and she had to resume Allopathy to restore previous status. That is not to say that Allopathy medicine is working, because there is slow but steady deterioration even though she is taking that treatment regularly.
Similarly, Ayurvedic treatment has been tried concurrently with allopathic medicine without substantial benefit.

ChaitanyaMehta 9 years ago
Ayurvedic medicines are not working for her Parkinson's symptoms, but without Ayurvedic laxative, she just does not pass stool - there is no desire- and she has then to be given aneoma.

ChaitanyaMehta 9 years ago
How long does it take for the Parkinson's symptoms to aggravate after stopping all medication.

fitness 9 years ago
On stopping or reducing Allopathy medicines symptoms get aggravated almost immediately - the same day or next - with exponentially increasing severity. Same is not true of Ayurvedic medicine. No harm as such when the medicine is reduced or stopped - except for the Ayurvedic laxative which, if she does not once in 3-4 days, she does not pass any stool and discomfort starts.

Here are my recommendations:

Give her a dose of Nux-V 200 at night before sleeping.

Next day, stop all medications.

Give her a dose of Sulfur 200 the next night.

Report back every 12 hrs.

If things seem to be going out of control, introduce her usual medication but only if things really start going out of control.

Dear Dr.,

I have passed on your recommendation to my nephew and am going to talk to him tomorrow. I hope he can get the medicine tomorrow itself ( they live in Surat) and start. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

In the meantime, my hearty thanks to you.

WIth best regards,

A question: John Clark, in his Dictionary of Practical Materia Medica, in his chapter on Sulphur, sub-section Relations, says: " Nux may be given at night and SUl. in the morning when their complementary action is desired." " If the patient sleeps well it is best given in the morning, as it may disturb sleep, if given at night." So, can you please confirm that you prefer that Sulphur is given at night rather than in the morning? Please do not mind my question, as my knowledge of homeopathy comes mostly from books.

ChaitanyaMehta 9 years ago
My intent here is not to complement, rather negate everything else first with Nux-V and then support it with constitutional antimiasmatic.

So a disturbed sleep, if happens, will be a welcome sign.

fitness 9 years ago
Ok. Thanks. I will get back to you 12 hrs after her Nux dose. Regards

Dear Dr.,
Greetings!
I owe you a feedback.
I had arranged for the medicines for my sister. However, she says that she has just recently started Patanjali treatment of Baba Ramdev and she seems to notice a slight improvement. She, therefore, wants to continue that treatment for a month, before trying out homeopathy.
So, I shall have to wait for a month before getting her to start with your prescription in case there is no improvement with Patanjali treatment.
Thanks and regards,
Chaitanya
