can breastfeeding moms take homeoptahic remedies safely? Are all remedies safe?okezin on 2006-01-03
This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
But if the remedy for the mother is not a remedy that the infant needs, doesn't that present a problem?
Is there any issue relating to difference in vital force (isn't the infant's stronger?) that perhaps allows the mother to take something that would no affect the youngster?

I'm only speaking from experience, but I have been taking homeopathic remedies and nursing my daughter for over 1 year now. I also nursed my son for 7 months while taking homeopathic remedies. I also took remedies while pregnant. Often, if you are not comfortable administering a remedy directly to the baby and you are nursing, you can take the remedy and your baby will receive traces of the remedy vicariously. So yes, whatever you are taking will have some effect on your baby. Your body will process the remedy and break it down however, the baby will receive some benefit or effect of the remedy as well.
So, that also means that if you are in need of treating specific issues for yourself and require high dosages or even remedies that may "bring out" certain symptoms in the baby, it may be better to wait until you are not breastfeeding any longer to do so. I have had experience treating the baby directly with homeopathy; treating the baby for issues by ingesting the remedy myself; and treating myself for issues while nursing affecting the baby both, positively and negatively. So yes, you have to be conscious when pregnant or nursing when taking remedies because there will be some effect. While homeopathy is basically safe, it is always advised that you read and learn what you are taking, dosages, effects, etc. so that YOU are comfortable with what you are doing and any outcomes of that action.
