Acid Reflux_7 week old son
Hello! I have a 7 week old son who we discovered had acid reflux at around 5weeks. He is very fussy and wakes immediately after you lay him down, kicks his legs in discomfort and makes a sour face usually after he eats and sometimes much later too even after burping him. This is one reason that wakes him often too.He is a very hungry baby and is a very healthy size however, after every feed we try to burp him for over an hour and the whole time he will be arching his back and squirming around all stiff in discomfort. He vomits very little, but has recently started bubbling/foaming at the mouth. He also sticks out his tongue constantly and pulls a face as though he has a sour taste in his mouth. He also gets a very stuffy congested nose throughout the day in and off. He has started coughing and gagging too recently. First four weeks were very hard,he cried most of the day and night. He would not sleep unless we held him and then too slept crying since he got over tired. Still sleeps tummy down on me or my husband but the crying has shifted to more in daytime now. Thats the only way both of us can get some rest. He is being fed breastmilk as well as formula. We first offer him breastmilk for half hour and then 3 or 4 ounce of formula. He eats good but is very gassy and does spit up now and then. Initally we thought its colic pain and so started Infacol before each feed. He has taken 2 bottles of it until his 5th week. There was some relief with infacol as far as the burping goes but sleep was still disturbed. We tried Dettinox also in between for 2 to 3 days but had no signs of improvement. After all this at his 5th week we went to the GP who prescribed gaviscon baby powder and told to stop infacol. We gave that for 3 days but it made his symptoms worse. He was in much more pain and was sleepless because of that. It triggered constipation too in his otherwise healthy bowel movements. So we have now stopped gaviscon too. Someone from India suggested Homeopathic medicine called Gasgan...its ingredients include Carbo vegetabillis 200, Colchicum Autumnale 200 and Nux Vomica 200. We have stopped all the above medicines and started Gasgan 4 days back. We give one tab dissolved in a teaspoon of boiled and cooled water. The first day he passed stool 5 times in a day which made us feel worried, however it normalised the second day. He is better but still not able to sleep comfortably, still has all the above symptoms with being more cranky during the day but I would say less in pain.Still keeps mourning in his sleep though. Since yesterday he seemed more uncomfortable than before so increased the dose to 2 tabs in a day. This has resulted him in being more drowsy almost as if sedated but still unable to sleep. Please help! We are at our wits end and tired of changing medicines :( Any advice is much appreciative!P_meh on 2015-08-15

Your remedy is: Calcarea Phosphorica 30c.
HOW TO TAKE THE REMEDY:
Please take two doses 12 hrs apart. Just two doses. Not daily.
Report back in 2 days with changes observed.
WHAT IS A DOSE FOR CHILDREN:
One dose is made by dissolving one pill of the remedy (or one drop, if you have liquid remedy) in half a glass of cooled, boiled water. Stir it and take one tea spoon from it.
TIME OF DOSE:
First dose: At night before sleeping.
Second dose: 12 hrs after the first dose.
Don’t take any more dose or any other remedy unless I tell you.
PRECAUTIONS:
If there is worsening of symptoms (called homeopathic aggravation) after the first dose, then don’t take the second dose.
Don’t take any other homeopathic remedy during this treatment.
Give a break of at least 10 minutes before eating/drinking anything before or after taking the remedy.
During the treatment, don’t eat anything which you have never had all your life.
Don’t combine changes i.e. don’t start or stop anything at the same time as starting homeopathic treatment as we will never know what caused what
HOMEOPATHIC AGGRAVATION
Sometimes the symptoms for which treatment is being done can worsen after taking the homeopathic remedy. This is homeopathic aggravation and a good sign. It usually dies down within 24-48 hrs. During this time you can use any non-medicinal means to keep yourself comfortable. If the aggravation seems excessive, you can use any & all means necessary (including taking allopathic medicines) to keep yourself comfortable. Keep your homeopath fully updated if this happens.
HOW TO GIVE FEEDBACK:
A good example of how to report your progress is by giving %age improvement for all your health problems e.g.
Headache: 30% better
Low energy level: 50% better
Anxiety: 40% better
Sadness: No change
Depression: Worse
And so on list all your complaints.

MOTHER’S DIET
If your child is breastfed then what you eat will have a huge effect on your baby’s health. If you eat foods which cause gas (e.g. cabbage, beans, cauliflower etc) then your baby will have gas too. Cut back on the foods which cause gas in you or your husband (because your baby may have acquired the genetic tendency of your husband to have gas & bloatedness). Eating a few fennel seeds will address infrequent gas & bloatedness, eating it in excess will cause constipation.
THE NAT-PHOS MISINFORMATION
Homeopathy works on “individualization” i.e. the remedy for GERD which will work on one child may not work on another. There are several remedies for GERD. Nat-Phos is promoted by a particular person as THE remedy for curing GERD by selectively quoting parents benefiting from his Nat-Phos protocol. This is not only incorrect but totally against the principles of “individualization” in homeopathy. Desperate parents would do anything to get the cure but blindly going for Nat-Phos is not the route as many have found the hard way. It’s a case of common sense & statistics. If you give Nat-Phos to 100 kids for GERD, some are bound to improve, it doesn’t mean that it’s THE remedy for GERD. Be sensible and consult a classical homeopath who gives only one single remedy at a time, waits for the remedy to work and discloses the name of the remedy.
GENERAL INFO ABOUT HOMEOPATHIC PRESCRIBING
If someone is giving several remedies, without waiting to see the effect of one remedy, then it is totally against the core principles of homeopathy. Such an approach is unlikely to give permanent cure, rather it may distort actual symptoms making subsequent cure even more difficult.
USE OF ANTACIDS
Unfortunately, antacids and other allopathic medicines mess up true symptoms which are essential for finding the right homeopathic remedy and curing the case. The allopathic medicines are suppressive in nature and the longer they are used, the more difficult cure becomes. Allopathic medicines should be the last resort when all else fails.
USE OF PROBIOTICS
Probiotics are good for the gut but they don’t suite everyone. So carefully observe the before & after of starting probiotics.
