Hyperacidity

Hello. I've read & re-read these boards but am looking for clarification on diagnosis & treatment. I am a 37 year old white female, 160 lbs., 5'5'. I exercise 2 to 3x week but don't make very good food choices. I love carbs and don't eat many fruits/veggies. I'm an extremely high-stress, high-anxiety person. A few years ago, I became a heavy coffee drinker. I drank coffee all day long and ate little food. I started experiencing loose/soft stools with mucus; was very gassy with a burning sensation after passing gas; had a patch of eczema show up on my hand, etc. According to a homeopathic reference book I recently viewed, those seem to be symptoms of low-acidity. Then in March of this year I started feeling nauseous and was 'urping' on a daily basis (where food comes back up on you, into your esophogus/throat). I did not take any medication for this as I'm generally an anti-medicine person. After two weeks of this, I became ill with flu-like symptoms. I had a bad pain in my stomach and spent an evening vomiting with diarrhea. I lost about 7 pounds over the next week as I was scared to eat anything. Since then I've gone back to semi-normal eating and put the weight back on, but have had nothing but problems with my stomach. For about a week after the flu episode, I experienced regular 'urping up' of food (only happens occasionally now). Then I spent a week or two having a very acidic, nasty burping problem (gone now). After I would burp, I would feel relief. Then I had the feeling of a 'lump' in my throat, as if something had gotten stuck (gone now). Then, for weeks, I just had a burning sensation in my throat, as if I had just vomited. As of today, I don't have problems at night or when I first wake up. But after I'm up for awhile and/or every time I eat something, I experience a bad taste in the back of my mouth/top of throat. I feel like an acidic gas is creeping up from my stomach....like I always have a sour stomach and it leaks into my mouth. This is a daily, on-going problem. I went out and purchased Natrum Phos. 6X tablets and Arnica based on information I've read on this site, but have not been consistent in taking them. My questions are: 1) What doses should I be taking of each (I've seen conflicting info on this site); 2) I'm assuming the Natrum Phos. lowers the acid in the stomach. So will the stomach be able to do this itself after awhile, after weaning off of the Natrum Phos.? 3) I'm thinking this happened over the past 2-3 years, so I'm trying not to expect too much too quickly - but how long does something like this take to work? Some of the posts say relief from the Natrum Phos. comes within 15 minutes and I'm just a little worried that although there's some relief, I still get the acidic feeling/taste in my mouth and throat. Maybe I just need to be more patient. Thank you so much for your time and for this wonderful forum.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
You are using the correct remedies to help with your GERD. Nat Phos 6x will accelerate the passage of food down into the gut and thereby prevent GERD which occurs when the food leaks into the Esophagus with the results that you are familiar with. The dose I recommend in extreme cases is 3-4 tablets taken after meals but you can reduce the dosage when you discover that it is helping you down to 2.

Do not drink any water after a meal except a sip but you must drink a lot of water but NOT canned drinks to help flush the excess acidity out of your system.

I presume that you also use the Arnica in the wet dose and you can use it for life if you feel that it does you some good. You can use the 6c potency later when you are cured of your GERD but this will take some time although at the end you will be free of your problem.

You may like to know that Nat Phos also helps to reduce weight by about 2 pounds per week which I believe will be of interest to you at 160 lbs.

Thank you so much. Avoiding water right after meals is a new suggestion for me and one which I will follow. I have already pretty-much eliminated coffee and pop from my diet (down to 2 cups & 1 can a week). Thank you again for your assistance. I really hope to feel better soon - WITHOUT corporate pharmaceuticals.
