Heavy periods

I would like to help my 14 yr old niece. these are her symptoms:
1. She has very heavy periods with cramping in abdomen and lower back.
2. she feels like she is being punched.
3. She needs to take a heat pack to bed with her to ease the pain.
4. she has fluid retention and gets thirstier than usual but she says this makes her feel even more bloated.
5.she gets very tired in the week before and during menses.
6. any kind of physical activity makes her dizzy
7. SHe gets headaches in temple she describes as throbbing.
8. Is very moody
9. She finds it very hard to get out of bed in the morning.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
There are all the three necessary ingredients for an acute symptom, and a concomitant also, and hence I have no hesitation to prescribe for this case.

Take Mag.phos 6x, 4 pills at a time, preferably dissolved in a small quantity of lukewarm water, four times a day, when the pain is intense, and taper off as the pain is relieved.

Stop taking the medicine ,once the pains are totally relieved.

Post response.

I could sense Psoric miasm in work?

Dear Maheeru

This is a purely acute prescription.

If the problem recurs again and again, we may have to look into the miasms.

Dear Murthy

I think you have chosen mag.phos for heat relief and cramp(typical key symptoms).

What about fluid retention/headache/moodiness/hardness to get out of the bed? Dont they warrant deeper acting remedies? I think they point elsewhere.

The patients age is only 14 and can't these troubles be related to puberty etc?(which may bring harmonal picture too)

My views are just for exchange of views and for information only.

To Jemrock:

This is advice for J.H. Clarke:

In all disorders of the menstrual functions hygienic measures are important. Regular meals and regular open-air exercises should be enjoined ; but the exercise must not be taken when the patient is in any way fatigued with exertion of other kinds either mental or bodily. Bathing should be omitted during the period.

A correction:

Dear Maheeru

Do you have 'Clarke'( A dictionary of practical materia medica ) with you?

Just read about Mag.Phos.

If you don't have that book, it is available online too.

It has got the headache, fluid retention, inability to get up,periodicity.. all are there.

As I said it is purely acute prescription. We will look deeper, later.

Thanks for your interest.

Thanks for the reference Murthy.

I just sensed out psora which I wanted to let you know. In this acute spasms/cramps/hiccups mag.phos is excellent and is the leader which can be administered.

I have given her mag phos today which she will continue taking. She has been feeling this way from the start of her periods just over 3 years ago. It is affecting her school work because she feels so unwell during her period. She gets then every 3 weeks.

According to the totality of symptoms it is pulsatilla but if we consider stong modality better by heat then nux moschata cannot be ignored.
