Never alternate two remedies for a chronic problem.

Five reasons why the alternation of remedies is a reprehensible practice.

a) The totality of the symptoms which should form the basis of every homeopathic prescription cannot be found under more than one remedy at a time.

b) It leads to a slovenly mode of practice and does not advance our knowledge of drug action.

c) Prescribing a second remedy before the action of the first is exhausted will interfere with its action. By such mismanagement remedies seem to lose all their power.

d) Remedies which antidote each other or hold inimical relation to each other may be alternated.

e) Statistics prove that diseases treated with the single remedy recover more rapidly.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Murthy,
Can you give us this statistical data (point 'e')...its source...who were the doctors involved...what was the size of the sample of the survey??

I would like to highlight the caption given by you:

'Never alternate two remedies for a ----chronic -----problem'.

1.Chronic problems are those where there is an existence of a miasm in the costitution of the patient.

When a patient of a chronic problem catches an acute disease ...such has a 'viral fever' ...the onset of which is very rapid....it is seen that a well chosen remedy for that acute problem may not excite a reaction from the system.

In such a state ...it is prudent and necessary to give the medicine for the miasm as an inter-current medicine....so that the well chosen medicine has a chance of initiating a cure for the 'acute' infection.

The medicine for the acute disease is re-introduced 24 hour after the the medicine for the miasm has been administered...in order to block the ability of the viral to invade the constitution of the patient at rapid speed.

2. Drug relationships have been documented for many years now. A good physician is expected to be thorough with the drug relationships and act accordingly.

Experienced homeopaths have the ability to see 'one drug picture' super imposed on 'another drug picture'. The job has become simpler after the introduction of homeopathic softwares.

When a software throws up 2 or 3 close fits...it is an indication.

Counter question for point 'a':

What do you do when the software shows top two choices having equal points ?? Has happened many times.

Which of the two 'single meds' will you use and which one will you leave out ??

Dear Pankaj,
I believe in simple homeopathy.New teachers are trying to make it more and more complicated.
If the two remedies are of equal value start with the medicine belonging to vegetable kingdom then move towards the deep acting, only after the acute condition is under control.

And also see which medicine has powerful action on that particular part, particular system and particular disease otherwise you will face failure.this is practical homeopathy.

The Examination of the Patient from Kent's Lectures on Homeopathic Philosophy

When an individual is suffering from a dangerous crisis, a serious accident or emotional trauma, or a virulent acute miasm [an infection like the flu], the treatment of choice is the acute remedy or acute intercurrent.

After the acute state has subsided the underlying fundamental cause must be removed by complementary constitutional treatment to prevent reoccurrence and complete the cure.

***********

No remedy is exclusively an 'acute remedy' by nature. A remedy becomes acute or chronic depending on the strategy of the homoeopath and how he applies the remedy. Deep acting remedies like Arsenicum, Mercury or Sulphur are often used in acute diseases if the symptoms of the acute layer call for them.

The key in such situations is not to mix the acute and chronic symptoms together in one grand totality as this confuses the case.

Acutes get treated first, the constitutional case will have to wait.

I read an article by Miranda Castro in the 1995 'American Homeopath' where she tells the story of her brother in the hospital with pneumonia. She was distraut with not being able to figure out his constitutional remedy until she suddenly had a 'light-bulb moment' after her brother said that the worst thing about being sick was people noticing that you can't cope! 'Do you like eggs!' Miranda blurted out. Yes, it turns out he did! But Calc-carb., though helping him sleep that night, did nothing for the pneumonia! Miranda realized she'd have to give the acute remedy which was Crotalus h. Upon checking the MM, she saw that even the mentals of Crot-h.-- dwelling on thoughts of death and aversion to family members (he wouldn't speak to his father)--were part of the acute case. With repeated doses of Crot-h. 30C, vast improvement occurred within 24 hours.

Don't mix up constitutional symptoms with the acute complaint; the acute complaint is everything that has changed since the person became ill.

- Homeopathy is not make-believe Forestry medicine, which can be un-authentically prescribed left and right. Homeopathy is a specific and precise razor-sharp science in medicine. Homeopathy requires very specific professional medical knowledge.

(above is coined by Nesha-India (who else).

Books and Software don't teach and train in the constitutionalisation knowledge nor the need to know the drug picture/ nor the need to know the technique to repertorise case key notes / symptoms.

Thank you Sajjad Bhai.

It is these practical suggestions(as given by you).. gained out of experience... about which many members of the Forum are keenly waiting to hear.

Some members are sending me e-mails ....saying that they want to hear more and more about practical ways of treating patients.

Dear Pankaj,
Once an allopath who is professor of medicine in a local medical college consulted me. There was lot of warts on his body. I could not ask him what classical homeopath intends to, his mental symptoms, desire and aversions and other personal symptoms. You know they do not care and give no importance. I prescribed him Ac- Nit, .Thuja, .causticum thrice daily. When we met again after 7 days, there were no traces of warts. He said “homeopathy is wonderful. I said” that is what I want to listen from you people.

That is it Sajjad Bhai,

Medicines act even if given in alteration or combination.

Thanks for sharing.

How can they suppress unless they act?

Allopathic medicines too act.Why are we against them? why homeopathy at all?

Murthy

Common sense !! If the medicines have cleared the warts ...the miasm has been cleaned out.

Single remedy is the rule. But a rule can be right, can be wrong. When symptoms are insuffient you can try combination especially with allopath and in emergency also.Save the patient not the rule.
One of our employee had lot of warts on his face.I suggested him to take thuja 200c,one dose every week. After about a month he told me that today all the warts suddenly disappeared and he further told me that he used thuja 200c thrice daily continuously. This is the violation of the rule but the patient got cured.

Myrthy.I understand homeopathy quite well.I know its limitations.I know all about it.I am in this profession for last many years.I am in favour of homeopathic philosophy.I love classical homeopathy. The main aim must be to cure the patient.I am not in favour of combinations but some times you have to violate the rules under certain circumstances. When patient is in emergency, never look for constitional remedy.save him whatever the method you use. This is the only way to make homeopathy popular.

Dear Sajjad

I am not a homeopath, who has a clinic, and as such, need not have the fear of loosing patients if I don't palliate them, by some means or the other.

I know, even good classical homeopaths deviate from principles some times, but, that is not the way, I follow.

Any way, thanks for your inputs.

Murthy,
I am against palliation.I never intend to.I have a prescripion of a great indian homeopathic physicisn.I do not want to disclose his name. The prescription is terrible.I never did that.I myself do not fear of loosing patient.I do not encourage combinations.I am against it,but one must not be rigid.
