Murthy,
I am against palliation.I never intend to.I have a prescripion of a great indian homeopathic physicisn.I do not want to disclose his name. The prescription is terrible.I never did that.I myself do not fear of loosing patient.I do not encourage combinations.I am against it,but one must not be rigid.

Dear Sajjad

I know your method of working, and have lot of respect for that.

may be you deviate very rarely.

However, I am at war with those who profess the wrong way to be right.

Dear Sajjadbhai,

Thanks for your valuable comments.I am reminded of a case that Vithoulkas mentiones in his 'Talks on Classical Homeopathy'.One of his dogs whom he loved was dying of a mysterious ailment. The vet was of no help in saving another dog of his who had died of the same ailment a few days ago.So, he decided to prescribe for this dog.One symptom that he noticed was that the dog had unquenchable thirst. He reasoned that Bryonia and Phosphorous are the two most thirsty remedies and hence added a few drops of 50M of each remedy to a bowl of water and allowed the dog to drink from it.The dog was cured in a few days and lived for a number of years thereafter.

A very inspiring story indeed which i have always remembered.Homeopathy is vast like an ocean and has millions of shades to it, a lot of which are not yet understood because our science has not reached the stage where we can understand these energies that these remedies carry.

So, there is a need to experiment but with caution, keeping fundamentals in mind and more importantly we need real quality minds (geniuses) to get into this field.I am trying to inspire some of my most brilliant colleagues and friends at the IIM Calcutta to take up homeopathy as here we have a collection of some of the finest minds in India.

With warm regards,

Rajiv

Yes. I too read it. Dogs can't give symptoms. In emergencies palliation is required.

As I said, you may have to deviate from principles once in a while.

But, to say, it is the way, and it is innovation, is something I can't stomach.

Dear Murthy,
I was worried...you would get drowned your self (really very worried for you).

There is a couplet:

Ghalib* itne gaherion mein mat jao.........doob jao gaye !!

(*The famous poet).

(Ghalib....do not go into such depths.....you will drown yourself).

So...take a life jacket.

Best wishes,

Dear Mr.Murthy,

Let me try to clarify what i mean.

Homeopathy till now makes use of an 'energy' the nature of which Science does not understand. For example, Science understands radio waves quite thoroughly and hence devices could be developed to make use of these waves.Similarly, when the particulars of this 'healing energy' will be really understood (may be a hundred or two hundred years later) then the laws or rules that will develop will be very concrete and indisputable. We will be talking about the NATURAL HEALING LAW AS IT EXISTS. NO SPECULATIONS.

Till such date, the next best method is to develop rules based on empirical evidences and inductive reasoning. That is why i am always saying innovations based on fundamentals with a view to adding to our understanding and not to confuse us.The latter will land us in a jungle as it already does in thousands of cases mishandled by unscrupulous prescribers. In the first case, sharp observation ability with an ability to makie correct inductive conclusions is a must. That is how any subject grows. That is why we hear of different homeopaths who keep coming up with innovations and thousands swear by them.Unfortunately, these efforts are mostly scattered and not consolidated under one research authority. The early tradition of the leading homeopaths meeting at one place and discussing ideas, cases and experiences was a very effective one which has given us the legacy of such a rich homeopathic literature.

We can look at Hahnemann himself. He was a restless experimenter with the ability to make very accurate observationsa and the intellect to use his tremendous powers of inductive reasoning to arrive at the aphorisms. But as his experiences grew with more and more experiments and clinical cases, he kept on making improvements to the Organon. But if you read one of the earlier Organons his statements are always definitive and final. But that is unavoidable as man knows only that which he knows in the current moment. But the next moment brings a new experience and then he revises his earlier understanding upwards. That is how Science develops and that is how Homeopathy has developed.

My point with the above example was that in the case of extreme situations some compromises can be made with rules. In that case it was not a palliation because 50M an extremely extremely high potency was used. Now we don't know what happens when we add two remedies at that level of 'potentisation' together in a bowl of water. But that they cured is a fact. How and why is a matter of research. To my mind homeopathy is still in its early stages. The more sophisticated stages are going to come as Science (Quantum Physics) starts to understand the inherent or intrinsic unity of matter and what constitutes that oneness.

I can promise from my side that i will keep studying and exploring tirelessly all my life and keep sharing my thoughts with everyone.

On a lighter note, may be sometimes even slight concptual (not fundamental)disagreements between us are a welcome relief to keep 'some people' humoured at this forum!!

With warm regards,

Rajiv

Dear Mr.Murthy,

After posting my last post, i was reading it and now can see that i can be misunderstood.Of course, Vithoulkas used it as a desperate measure because he could not get the differentiating symptoms between Bryonia and Phosphorous. This cured because one of them was homeopathic to the case. The fact that the medicine worked despite being used together was what i was referring to when i said about Science not understanding the nature of this energy etc.

In normal cases, a good homeopath will always be able to find a good 'homeopathic' remedy to the case.Mixtures are to be condemned in such cases as it just indicates lack of ability or laziness.I was only saying that this fascinating subject still has many mysteries not yet understood.

Dear Rajiv

This post made on another thread may give you some inkling into my thinking.

*************

Yes. He was updating his thoeries, basically regarding posology.(The science of potencies and method of administration.)

He too experimented with combinations/alternating medicines and found them to be not suitable.

I also agree that as on now, there is no way to know how homeo medicines work.

It is the very reason, to avoid the unchartered path, as it may be dangerous to experiment with the unknown.

The majority of the doctors, and authors of homeopathy of the yester years, who spanned through out the last 200 years, practiced classical homeopathy and got good results.

there are a few doctors in those days, and throughout the history too, who deviated from the fundamentals, but their success was sporadic.

Homeopathic medicines are like dynamites. In the right hands they can be helpful. In the wrong hands they can be disastrous.

*********

My reasoning is simple.

Until and unless we know how homeo medicines work, we will not know what is going to happen if we alternate/ mix potencies.

The collective efforts of all the homeopaths of the yester years, have shown us a way, which though not understood is safe.

I will put it this way.

Suppose you are in a unknown thick jungle, and there is an already laid out path,to move around. Will you use that, or go haywire in the name of adventure and get lost?

The need of the day is to get good sceintists work towards unravelling the mystery of homeopathy.

Till then follow the masters.

Dear Mr. Murthy,

I agree basically.Ony thing is that i have a lingering suspicion that i have got some explanations (intuitive in nature) as to why and how these remedies work.I will discuss with you these ideas that i have on a personal basis when i meet you in person. These ideas are too 'crazy' and 'far fetched' for modern day Science to be discussed and shared on a forum.I will just give a clue.Carl Gustav Jung, the great psychologist had started the process which if pursued properly and scientifically, would yield a number of answers.

Whenever i treat someone in person, i pay the maximum attention to their life story and the dreams that they see after taking the remedy.I have got some fascinating insights into this remarkable subject.I promise to you and fellow homeopaths that before i die i would help to unravel at least a 'substantial' part of this 'divine mystery'.

Many times i even feel 'guided' by some mysterious force.Jung called it 'synchronicity'.My life has been a remarkable 'set of synchronicities'.But that is a topic for discussions when we meet in person.I owe my life to homeopathy and hence have every intention to repay the debt.

With warm regards and love,

Rajiv
