Bacterial Vaginosis

I have recently been diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis, and was given a prescription for flagyl. My symptoms seem to have gone away, I still have a few days left on the medication which I am planning on finishing. My boyfriend and I were wondering if it was ok to have sex-protected of course? My doctor said the only thing we needed to abstain from was drinking.
