severe colic : 1 month old baby..please help ....

Hello all experts, We really are in need of help. We have a 1 month baby, crying in pain that starts in the afternoon and he doesn't sleep until late night..We tried some drops for colic didn't help. This has been going on the for more than 8 days continuously.

The crying is loud and continuous, he feels better when carried on shoulder with stomach pressed to the shoulder or made to sleep on stomach. He also passes green stools two to three times a week.

Please suggest a remedy...

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Consulting a Paediatrician, specialized in diagnosing the baby will be required.

Until then, please try this:

Dissolve in 30 mil of HOT water: KALI PHOS 6x - 4 pills
MAG PHOS 6x - 4pills. These are called Cell Salts/ Bio Chemic Medicines.

Give a tea spoon full, every 10 minutes, 30 minutes or a few hours till better.

Another medicine that can supplment the above medicine is Colocynth 30c, 2 pills, every 2 to 4 hours till better.

Diaphragmatic neuralgia. Colic > by hard pressure, as by laying the child with its abdomen across the knee or on the point of the shoulder. This is one of the keynotes of Stan.; but the most important one is in the type of the Stan. pains: they begin lightly, increase gradually to the highest point and then as gradually decline.

***********
Stools: green, curdy, with colic.

From Clarke

One should know how to differentiate between Chamomilla, Colocynth and Stannum which look similar.

Chamomilla child doesn't need the pressure. It just wants to be carried. She starts weeping the moment you make her lie down.

Colocynth is similar to stannum in pressure releiving the pain..the difference lies in the modality.

Colocynth colic doesn't have the gradual build up and release that is found in Stannum.

Bryonia may also work here. The treatment should be started with colocynthis. Tissue salts should be continued. If no relief bryonia 30c should be tried alongwith tissue salts. If still no relief stannum may be tried. If that too fails Nux Vomica should be tried. There should be relief at this stage and hopefully no further remedies may be reqiured. NOt more than three to four doses of a homeo remedy may be given during a day. The patient may get relief on the very first day and no further remedies may be required. Mag Phos 6x alone could give relief.

Thanks everybody!. I really appreciate all of your suggestions. I had readily available Mag Phos 6x at home, I tried that as a first step in hot water as suggested by Reva V. This seemed to have improved his condition. I have just tried two doses so far..I will keep you posted on the improvements if any...

Thanks!

We should distinguish the nature of crying as well. Cham is irritating while Puls is pitiful. Puls has green stools as well.

Hello All,

There seems to be some improvement with Mag Phos 6X, usually his crying started in the afternoon until night, but now his crying starts in the night which is very loud and irritable. He doesn't sleep well and easily gets disturbed and starts crying.

I am curious if Chamomilla 30C could be given to him considering he is 8 weeks old...

Thanks for your replies!

Can I give Chamommila 30C the same way by dissolving it in 30 ml water or it should be given raw...

Thanks!

It is better to give by dissolving in water.

Hello Experts,

I just wanted to post some follow up on Chamomilla. I have been giving one dose of Chamomilla in the night. I have noticed lot of gas passing
after giving him the dose. Could it be co-incidence.

He still does not sleep well and constantly and gets up in 15 minutes even if sleeps. The only sleep he gets is in the night after 12:00 AM and wakes up every 3-4 hours which is usual for new born babies. But he does not sleep at all in the day after 9:00 AM until midnight and is very cranky and keeps crying

Should we give him another dose of Chamomilla 30C in the day? Is it safe...

There is a dosing pattern like to give three doses of a remedy on a single day and then wait and see the response.

Another pattern is to keep on dosing until positive response and then taper off the doses.

i generally recommend the first one.

Here's another update..

He was very colicky yesterday..lot of gas, green colored stools, a lot irritated and had hardly slept.
I gave him Chamomilla 30C dissolved in water thrice. Today he is much better but sleepy the whole day..he still has gas troubles..the gas smells real bad. I guess the sleepiness is because of Chamomilla. Should I continue the dosage or stop now and give him only if there is a problem...
