Aspergers

Hello -
My 8 year old son was recently diagnosed with High functioning autism - aka Aspergers. I have used homeopathy successfully for various maladies in the past and looking for curative/palliative options for him. His main symptoms are as follows:

- He is intolerant of CONTRADICTION.
- No friends; does not make any.
- Does not make eye contact while speaking to strangers.
- Gets very angry when contradicted and things do not go his way.
- Gets bogged down in detail and fixated on what he perceives is correct.
- Eats highly spicy food
- difficulty falling asleep and restless before sleeping.
- Aggravation from bright lights and noise.
- Very slow and deliberate in doing things - rarely completes school work on time.
- Lately, incontinence of bowels - unable to tell when he has had a bowel movement in his pants.

We are beginning our long journey to rehab. I am hoping that Homeopathy has answers. Any help is appreciated.

Hello.
Please enter your answers to the questions in this form.
It's pretty thorough, so you do not have to respond to things that are not related to your son.
I just studied some literature on Asperger's, and it's actually homeopathic medicines that can help.
Can I ask what country you live in?

Ok here is the list:
1. What complaints do you have? Describe your complaints in your own words:

2.What Medicine do you take now?
At what time of the day are you the worst? Morning? Evening? Night?
After waking? After sleeping? Etc.
3.How do you react to the weather? Cold-warm-humid-dry-foggy-windy?
How do you react to draft? Exposure to Sun? Snowing? Change of Weather?
How do you react to warmth? Warm rooms? Sun? Warm bathing? Warmth of bed?
How to you react to cold? Uncovering? Cold Water? Cold food and drinks?

4.Do you catch a cold easily? Cold feet? Cold parts of the body?

5.How is your desire for open air?

6.Do you sweat? In general or on special parts?
Sweat during sleep?
Suppressed foot sweat?

7.How is your desire for motion? How do you feel during sitting? Standing? Lying (left, right, back, abdomen?)

8.How do you react to the sea, the mountains?
How can you stand the pressure of clothing, touch?

9.How is your appetite?
Do you have desire for special food? (Sweet, sour, salty, spicy?) Meat? Fish? Cheese?
Do you have aversion to special food?
Do you have aggravation from special food (Fruits, flatulent, fat food? Milk)?
How is your thirst? Alcohol? Coffee? Cold or warm drinks?
Are you hungry at special times of the day?
How is the bowel motion?

10. These questions can be related to the general condition but also to every complaint you have.
With every complaint there must be paid attention to following questions:
What circumstance can cause this complaint? (Anger, grief, cold weather, draft, exertion, sweating, etc.)
Where in the body is the exact localisation of your symptoms?
What circumstances can aggravate and ameliorate this symptom? The answers to that question are the most important to find the right remedy.
The exact sensation that is felt in the complaint (burning, drawing, stitching, etc.).
The exact description of the complaint (diarrhoea is watery, bloody, cough is dry, or expectoration is lumpy and yellow).
Are there any concomitant symptoms that accompany a special symptom? (In back pain there is also felt nausea for example)

11. Do you smoke?

12.How is the healing if you have a wound?
Do you have prolonged bleeding?
Tendency to have a collapse?

13.In woman: How is the bleeding during the period? Are there any changes during the time of the period?
Sexual problems?

14. Very important is the change in the mood during the disease.
Very often the cause of a disease can be found in stress of psychic origin.
What was the most severe grief in your life?
Can you weep?
How do you react to consolation?
What can make you angry?
Are you jealous?
Are there any anxieties in your life?
Have you been anxious as a child? Can you describe your character as a child?
Have you special fears: Heights? Robbers? Death? Dogs or other animals?
How do you react to other people? Do you like company or you prefer to be alone?
If you have grief do you want to speak with someone about or you prefer to solve the problem alone?
How do you react to crowds, to small rooms, elevators?
Can you wait? Are you impatient? Hasty? Always in a hurry?
Did you have grief, anger, disappointment in your life?
Is order in your life important?
How do you react to contradiction?
How do you react if you hear from other people if they are suffering?
How do you react to bad news in TV, to horror movies?
How is your situation at your working place? Your family?
How is your sleeping? Recurring dreams?
Is your sleep disturbed? In what position do you sleep?

15. It is very important to consider the psychic situation. Homoeopathy is a very holistic system of treating people and it is very successful because the whole person is included in the therapy, not only the physical complaints of the patient.

16. Did you suffer from other diseases before? Operations?

17. Accidents?

18. In children: How was the situation of the mother during pregnancy? How was the childbirth? Have there been problems during the first period of life?
How was the development of the child?
How did you react to vaccinations?

19. Are there diseases in the history of the family, the ancestors: Canc.., tuberculosis, heart problems, allergies, etc.?

Finally you can go through the body from above downwards, to make sure that you haven't forgotten anything important:
Head - Eyes - Ears - Nose - Mouth - Lips - Tongue - Throat - Glands - Chest - Heart - Lungs - Stomach - Liver - Abdomen - Bowel motion - Kidney - Bladder - Genitals - Back - Joints - Skin - Nails.

Dear Parakletos:

We live in the USA.
I have answered your questions below:
1. What complaints do you have? Describe your complaints in your own words:

- He is intolerant of CONTRADICTION.
- Lots of anxiety - about school, about being on the bus, about many things.
- No friends; does not make any.
- While focused on a task, he does not hear you - hard to break his concentration.
- Does not make eye contact while speaking to strangers.
- Gets very angry when contradicted and things do not go his way.
- Socially unaware. Continues to speak after friends/ people around him have moved on to another topic.

2.What Medicine do you take now?
Ans: None.

At what time of the day are you the worst? Morning? Evening? Night?
After waking? After sleeping? Etc.
Ans: Varies. Some mornings are cheerful, some are not. Usually, by the mid-day if there is no physical activity, the pent-up energy causes moodiness and aggravates to bad behavior. Physical activity ameliorates.

3.How do you react to the weather? Cold-warm-humid-dry-foggy-windy?
Ans: Cannot tolerate hot weather - overheats easily; does not drink as much as he should.

How do you react to draft? Exposure to Sun? Snowing? Change of Weather?
Ans: Heat (and humidity) is very bothersome. Dipping in a swimming pool at those times changes his mood. Cold weather is not as problematic.

How do you react to warmth? Warm rooms? Sun? Warm bathing? Warmth of bed?
Ans: See above.

How to you react to cold? Uncovering? Cold Water? Cold food and drinks?
Ans: Tolerant to cold (he is robust, of course!). Desires water and drink cold. Food : No preference.

4.Do you catch a cold easily? Cold feet? Cold parts of the body?
Ans: Nope. His immunity is pretty good. Hands and feet are neither cold nor hot. No cold parts

5.How is your desire for open air?
Ans: No significant effect.

6.Do you sweat? In general or on special parts?
Ans: Head sweats a lot. Other parts of the body, less so.
Sweat during sleep?
Ans: Yes, the head! Many times in the upper body.

Suppressed foot sweat?
Ans: No

7.How is your desire for motion? How do you feel during sitting? Standing? Lying (left, right, back, abdomen?)
Ans: If we force him to get physical exercise - like riding a bike, swimming in a pool, ice skating or skiing, his mood is definitely better. He is SLOW - to walk, to run, to do things, in general.

8.How do you react to the sea, the mountains?
How can you stand the pressure of clothing, touch?
Ans: No significant difference in reaction to sea and mountains. Does not like tight-fitting clothes.

9.How is your appetite?
Ans: Very good!
Do you have desire for special food? (Sweet, sour, salty, spicy?) Meat? Fish? Cheese?
Ans: Spicy (hot) food. Will eat anything with hot sauce. Desires cheese. He is an ovo-lacto-vegetarian.

Do you have aversion to special food?
Ans: Nothing bitter.
Do you have aggravation from special food (Fruits, flatulent, fat food? Milk)?
Ans: Not noticeably.

How is your thirst? Alcohol? Coffee? Cold or warm drinks?
Ans: Could drink more. Need to push fluids. He is a child, so no alcohol, coffee, tea, etc.

Are you hungry at special times of the day?
Ans: Nope. But, great regularity in hunger/ appetite.
How is the bowel motion?
Ans: Regular. Incontinence of bowels. Does not realize peristaltic motion till it is too late. Soils his pants frequently.

The exact sensation that is felt in the complaint (burning, drawing, stitching, etc.).
The exact description of the complaint (diarrhoea is watery, bloody, cough is dry, or expectoration is lumpy and yellow).
Are there any concomitant symptoms that accompany a special symptom? (In back pain there is also felt nausea for example)

Ans: As I said in Question #1: Contradiction is a trigger that aggravates to irascible anger, with a temper tantrum, throwing things. It builds up to a frenzy. Needs to be removed and not talked to for a while to calm down.

11. Do you smoke?
Ans: N/A

12.How is the healing if you have a wound?
Do you have prolonged bleeding?
Tendency to have a collapse?
Ans: Normal.

Did you have grief, anger, disappointment in your life?
Is order in your life important?
How do you react to contradiction?
Ans: See above.

How do you react if you hear from other people if they are suffering?
Ans: Not a lot of empathy.
How do you react to bad news in TV, to horror movies?
How is your situation at your working place? Your family?
How is your sleeping? Recurring dreams?
Ans: Difficult falling asleep. Feels hot in bed. Restlessness in bed. Takes a hour to fall asleep daily.

In my opinion,

Totality of symptoms corresponding to Nux vomica

1) the least contradiction puts him out entirely (the guiding symptoms of our materia medica)

2) sensitivity to light and gaslights (Aggrevation from bright lights and noise) (the guiding symptoms of our materia medica)

3) Disturbed sleep and Constipation (the guiding symptoms of our materia medica)

4) Taking highly sensored food (Kent repertory)

5) CONCENTRATION, difficult - (Kent repertory)

So..dear rectian

u may try Nux vomica 30 one single dose and observe for 7 days and report back to forum.

based on the results u may escalate to higher doses..

Nux vomica should not be used in day time. Always give him in just before going to sleep. This is very true with hyperactive children.

Hello again!

Autism / Aspergers is such a serious disorder that one should not jump at the first solution you come up with.

But you as a mother, has given a very good picture of your son's symptoms, it makes it much easier to find the right medicine.

I have some additional questions.

1. Does your son have birthmarks, moles or similar?

2. Although he is a bit slow, how is his intelligence, do you think? Is he doing well in school?

3. What he is most interested in? Is there any particular theme that recurs? What about drawing? If he likes to draw, what is he drawing?

4. You said he has some anxiety, this may have to do with performance anxiety?

5. How was he to walk, early or late?

6. Of the various symptoms he has, what would you change first and foremost, if it were possible?

What I see at this point are two different remedies. Which is determined by your answer to my last question.
Can add that there have been studies in relation to vitamins and minerals. What they have come up with many children with autism / aspergers have good benefit by taking a combination of Vitamin B6 and the mineral magnesium. Half of the children who participated in the study, had a significant improvement. (Think it was 200 children)
Must also add that B6 and magnesium is not a cure, but still worth to try.

Ok, hope to hear from you soon.

Dr. P -
Here are the answers.
1. Does your son have birthmarks, moles or similar?
Ans: None

2. Although he is a bit slow, how is his intelligence, do you think? Is he doing well in school?
Ans: He is very intelligent, though he is physically slow. He does well in school, but unfortunately, timed-tests induces anxiety in him. So, a teacher who asks him 2+2 will not get a straight answer. He is thinking 2+2 = 4, but 2x2 is also 4. How many numbers when added to itself and multiplied give the same sum and product. Meanwhile, the teacher concludes that he is not paying attention or unable to do simple addition.

3. What he is most interested in? Is there any particular theme that recurs? What about drawing? If he likes to draw, what is he drawing?
Ans: Chemistry (He knows the Periodic table well; and he is 8 years old). He loves Maps He reads and obsesses about maps. He loves Space science and anything related to planets and astronomy. He has a variety of interests - reads a lot, but obsesses (level of detail) is high. He draws all kinds of things - maps, comic strips, directions to places, etc.

4. You said he has some anxiety, this may have to do with performance anxiety?
Ans: He has anxiety approaching any situation. If you tell him something needs to be done in 2 minutes and ask him to hurry up, it induces a lot of anxiety. Similarly with school work. The fear of completing something in time, anticipated anxiety is quite high.

5. How was he to walk, early or late?
Ans: Late walker - Did not walk until he was 18 months old.

6. Of the various symptoms he has, what would you change first and foremost, if it were possible?
Ans: Contradiction and anxiety. If he can overcome those two, its huge.

BTW, this is a typical Aspergers symptomatology that he exhibits. I will be happy to provide you some educational resources for Aspergers if you wish.

Regarding vitamins and minerals, he gets a multi-vitamin, but I will try Magnesium as a biochemic.

Cwek -
- He has disturbed sleep but no Constipation
- His CONCENTRATION is very good. In fact he hears nothing when he is focused on whatever he is doing - reading, drawing especially.

He is very very creative. His conceptualizing is extraordinary.

Hello and thank you for your answers. No thanks, I know what I need about aspergers. The reason I ask all these questions is to find the right homeopathic medicine. There are many medications that may be applicable to your son, and I try to eliminate most, so I am left with the right remedies.
I think I found one that fits your son, and it's called CARCINOSINUM.

Are you interested in trying this Remdies, you should start with Potence 30C.

Can give you more inormasjon how homeopathy is used.

Dr. P

Parakletos 9 years ago
The reason I chose Carcinosinum:

1. Do not like to be contradicted.
(coulden´t tell him anything because any slightest hint of reproach made him go into spasmodic weeping)

2. Like spicy food.

3. Is intelligent, but can be quite slow.

4. Social intelligence is perhaps not quite at the top?

5.Weep and sob. (Can get so upset that they stop breathing and turn purple)

6.Aticipation anxiety with a fear of failure.
( They can also have anxiety about others)

7.Or they can exhibit a total indifferenence towards others, even there family.

8. Carcinosin patients can have strong intellectual powers. They like to read and learn, to stimulate theire brain. But if they get stressed their minds become easily exhausted. Memory fails.
For example, school assignments that must be delivered within a certain time.

9. Sleeplesness. In order to be able to fall asleep they need the mother´s company.
Sleeps on the abdomen.

Ok, this was some symptoms Carcinosinum. What do you think, can it fit with your son?
Can also add that this medication has often been used in similar cases, as for your son.

Dear rectian,

Aspergers is belongs to autism spectrum disorders. is an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction, alongside restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. IT DIFFERS FROM OTHER AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS BY ITS RELATIVE PRESERVATION OF LINGUISTIC AND COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT.

In some aspects they are good from autism patients (information processing, conceptual resources, perceptual skill, language learning).

THIS IS ALL GENERAL KNOWLEDGE…………NOT USEFUL FOR TREATMENT.

Let us comedown to homeopathy …………………………………..

In homeopathy, most IMP symptoms are PECULIAR SYMPTOMS…specific to THAT PARTICULAR PATIENT.

(Lack of friends, Agg. by light. Unable to tolerate contradiction,)

“Does not make eye contact while speaking to strangers” Is also not useful…because it is also a common symptom….for all most all ASD disorders.

Concentration while reading, drawing and creativeness are good points but general points for all Aspergers patients (ASPERGERS DIFFERS FROM OTHER AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS BY ITS RELATIVE PRESERVATION OF LINGUISTIC AND COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT.)

Just look at the below case….A simple remedy did miracles when guiding symptoms are correspondents…

Please read the below URL..

By Edward Shalts, M.D., D.Ht.

Pg.no – 279. – Homeopathic solutions

http://books.google.co.in/books?id=h4NukJS7X84C&pg=PA277...

I believe NUX will work

ok I understand, it is not constipation, its incontinence of bowels.. not a problem.. go ahead

Bye for now,
