Infant Reflux & Gas
Hi,My 10-week old daughter has reflux issues - mainly with 'silent' reflux. She doesn't spit up, but has pain from acid in her esophogas backing up. She refuses to eat at times.
She has been on Prevacid for 2.5 weeks now and it seems to control the reflux; however, it seems to give her horrible gas problems. We're not positive it is Prevacid, but she did not have so much gas pain before going on it. I know all babies are gassy but this keeps her up at night.
What would you suggest for the gas? I have tried Hyland's Colic pills (which contain some chamomile) but have not really seen much difference - if it does help, it is very temporary. I have also tried Gripe Water - that seems to help when she has hiccups, but not with gas.
Is there anything else that could help? I would like to get her off of the Prevacid but since the reflux was interfering with her eating we had to do something.
Thank you!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
how was it determined that the reflux was causing pain or stopping her eating? were other reasons investigated?

Well, she just had all of the symptoms of it:
Screaming & Arching back while eating
Difficulty swallowing
Frequent hiccups
Still hungry despite refusing to eat
It was pretty obvious to us that she was in pain when eating. She just couldn't swallow, or what she was eating was coming back up into her throat and burning her.
The GI doctor never did any tests though - I guess he's seen it enough that they assumed that is what is is.

is she taking breast-milk or formula milk?
if on formula then it may be worth testing whether she has an allergy to the formula.

Formula at this point. We had to stop BFing with all of the fussiness. We've tried a few different formulas now - we tried a super-hypoallergenic one but she hated the taste...but we might need to consider it again. I don't want to change on her just yet - all of the formula changes can cause the gas troubles too.
