Infant Reflux and Gas
I have a 3 weeks old baby who has shown signs of reflux for the past 2 weeks. I exclusively breastfeed him. He arches his back, holds his breathe and turns red, throws his head back, cries, has gurgling tummy noises, makes faces like something tastes bad, spits up a little, pulls off the breast when nursing, chokes/coughs with letdown, doesn't like being on his back, trouble falling asleep after a feeding, lots of gas, hates diaper changes. These things seem to come in waves and were mostly visible after he ate. I burp him but something nothing comes up... but i can see his tummy is puffed up and its uncomfortable for him if you push on it.The pedi prescribed zantac... we gave him 2 doses and he barely got it down due to the nasty taste. i also was looking for natural remedies, but the stress on us and seeing baby in pain caused me to accept the meds for him.
Then I came across this website and the recommendation for Nat Phos 6x.
I bought some yesterday morning and gave him 3 doses (1/2 pill dissolved in some breastmilk) after feedings during the day. He seemed to be a much happier baby... but them evening came and he had a screaming fit and was fussy most of the night... I kept up with the Nat Phos after each feeding, which was another 3 overnight and then 2 this morning.
I am also giving him Tummy Calm drops for his gas about every 2 hours or so.
I didnt see much improvement last night... he was still very squirmy and unsettled, arching his back, crying and lots of gas. He also hates pooping and gets frustrated before that happens.
Any advice on what to do next? Do I stick with the Nat Phos after each feed? How much? He is only 6 pounds 5 ounces. What about for the gas? Other remedies available for that? It is hard to tell if the reflux is still there... he hasnt spit up since we started the doses, but some of the other symptoms i mentioned are still happened.
thanks,
Jaclyn

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Jaclyn- did you read about this protocol on Joe's site?
www.joedelivera.com- he suggest the Mom take this also-
and I suppose you have checked your own diet and removed
gassy foods like onions, beans, cabbage, etc.-
He is also having symptoms that match the remedy nux vomica.
In my acute book by dr. Judyth Ullman that has a chapter on
baby colic- nux vomica is for 'colic that has constipation in
an irritable baby.''arching of back with tense muscles'
Can be caused by food or drink from the nursing mother.
Her way of dosing this is to use 3 pills of nux vomica 30c
and dissolve this in a tsp of water. Since baby is so little
just use one pill- dissolve in tsp of water- spoon it in
Use this and continue thenat phos. When symptoms improve
-wait till they come back before another dose.- Try this
nux vomica every 4 hours, if you do 3 doses and no improving
then the remedy is wrong you try another one. After improvement,
remember not to do more doses only if it comes back or
if the baby has some improvement and has hit a plateau.-
There is no material substance of remedies in the remedies
above 12x. It is a water molecule imprint so this is totally
safe.

Thank you, I will get the nux vomica and try adding that. I have been taking the Nat Phos myself since yesterday. I am eliminating gas producing foods as well. I will report back if symptoms don't get better after 4 doses.

I shall copy my default therapy for Baby Gerd which Simone has referred to.
I would however caution the mother that Nux Vomica is only to be used if the Nat Phos 6x alone does not help baby to overcome his GERD in a few days. It will then be given in the Wet dose and 3ml or Quarter of a teaspoonful is a dose.
It is very likely that your baby suffers from Gastric Reflux aka GERD (Gastro Esophagal Reflux Disease).
The remedy that has proved to be very effective for Baby GERD is:
Nat Phos 6x dose half tablet dissolved in milk given immediately after a feed. If you discover that baby does not respond to the half tablet you can increase the dosage to a full tablet given after every feed but not to exceed 5 tablets in 24 hours. Please note that you must get the Biochemic Cell Salt of Nat Phos 6x which is always in tablets and not in pellets which is the Homeopathic version of the same remedy and will not help the patient.
It is essential that you burp baby immediately after each feed.
You will STOP all other drugs to enable the Nat Phos to cure Baby.
You will avoid eating all food that can cause any distress to baby. You must know that they are passed on to baby through your breast milk.
You (the mother) will take Nat Phos 6x dose 2 tablets after each of 3 meals daily and Arnica 30c in the Wet dose taken twice daily. The idea is that your milk will pass the effect to baby. You may like to know that this remedy will also help to reduce your weight by 1kg per week very safely.
Report progress in 24 hours.
