Toddler Sleep Problem

Hi,
I have a 14 month old son who does not sleep properly. He toss and turn all through night and wakes up 2-3 times crying. We put him to bed around 9pm after he is asleep. He usually wakes ½ hr after we put him in his crib and then around 12.30am and 4 am. When he wakes up he will cry until we pick him up. Even after picking we have to walk/rock him till he falls asleep. He will cry if we try to comfort him in lap while sitting. He was never a good sleeper as a baby and used to wake up every hour and half. Even with very slight noise he will wake up and does not go in deep sleep especially in night. During day he usually takes 2 naps ( in morning for 1 hour and afternoon 1.5 hr). It seems like at night time he fights and resist sleeping.

I previously thought it might be a separation anxiety as he sleeps in his own room so I tried co-sleeping. But the sleep pattern is the same. He mostly sleeps on his tummy. I have ruled out other possibilities like hunger/thirst/feeling hot or cold/ fear of darkness etc. He usually has good dinner and I don't think he is waking because of that. The temperature of his room is maintained and so is humidity. There is enough night light in the room.

Born in Winter month
Lean but strong built
Very active and always on the go
Happy, cheerful, social and likes to be surrounded by people.
Not clingy unless sick
Frequently Catches Cough and Cold and gets severe Chest Congestion – This is one major factor in his sleep disturbance.
Rollover in 5th month
Crawling in 8th month
Walking in 12th month
Started teething in 8th Month and now has 8 teeth. Canines are coming out now.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks !!

Please give him three doses of Phosphorus 200 as follows and see how that affects in next 15 days (only 3 doses in 15 days).

day 1 morning
1st dose

day 1 evening
2nd dose

day 2 morning
3rd dose

One dose means
If the medicine is in pills form 2 pills. Don't touch pills with hand. Use cap of bottle to take pills.
If the medicine is in liquid dilution form, 2 drops in some 20 ml water. Sip up slowly.

Please follow homeo restrictions like no coffee, no raw onion/garlic, no strong perfumes, don't eat or drink anything within 30 minutes before or after taking medicine.

Is potency 200ck similar to 200c ? And should I see th effect immediately after first dose .. or in few days after the complete dose .

roshbhaga last decade
200ck means 200c. You may see the result immediately or it may take time, that is why there is a wait and watch period before going to the next remedy.

I got the Bioron Phosphorus 200 ck today but the pills are extremely small and in the dosage it say ' Dissolve entire contents of the tube' for adults/children. The tube has net weight content of 1g.
Can you please confirm the dose.

roshbhaga last decade
There is no need to give 1g pills as one dose. You may give 10 pills as one dose. Dose size doesn't matter in homeopathy, one pill or one gm pill are equally effective.

I gave my son 3 doses of Phosphorus 200C as you suggested.
1st dose- Last Tuesday Morning
2nd dose- Last Tuesday Evening
3rd dose- Last Wednesday Morning

On Tuesday night he was very cranky. He took almost an hour to fall asleep and followed his same sleep pattern i.e waking up 2-3 times crying.
Wednesday - Same sleep pattern but was not cranky or agitated while going to sleep.

I have been watching for signs of improvement if any but seems like his sleep pattern is same as before.

He is having cough since last Sunday as well. I am not sure if this might be masking the effects of Phosphorus as he coughs mostly at night time( around 12-1). We are giving him Turmeric-honey paste before bedtime and Steam. This helps but not a lot.
I think he has wet chesty cough as whenever he coughs there is a rattling sound and after he stops coughing he swallows the phelgm.

Please advise what can we do next.

Please give him Belladonna 30 in the morning and evening for 3 days and see how that affects in few days.

Hi,
I gave my son the suggested doses of Belladonna 30c last week on Tue,Wed & Thurs and was observing his sleep patterns. I do not see any improvement in his sleep. He still wakes up 2-3 times crying and does not go to sleep again just by comforting. We have to pick him & walk till he falls asleep.
He is now sick again with cold/fever since Saturday. At the onset of cold I gave him Aconite 30c which did not seem to help him. Suday night he was miserable and having diffulty breathing. He had lot of chest congestion, wheezing, fever and was breathing very heavily through stomach. He was kind of moaning/crying to help him feel better. It did not know what to give him that time so as suggested by his Ped. I gave him Benadryl that affected almost immediately and he could sleep. I prefer not to give Benadryl as it only masks the symptoms.Next morning after some reading I gave him Phosphorus 200 to which he responded very well. His wheezing was reduced and he was no longer breathing through stomach. His heartbeat was still fast throughout the day.I also gave him Ferr. Phos 6x 5 times on Monday for Fever. Fever was low grade( 99-100.2 F) and was controlled with Ferr. Phos till Monday evening. I continued with 2 more doses of Phosphorus(so total three dose- Mon morn. & even. & Tues morn.)

This is the second time he had this severe chest congestion. I am not sure if this is kind of Asthma as he dont have these symptoms with every cold cycle.

From his birth I have noticed though in sleep he mostly breathes through mouth ( and some days-snore) even when is not sick per se. As if his nostrils are constricted.

He still has productive cough and congestion.
What can I do to avoid/treat his congestion/wheezing problem. And the problem for Sleep still stands. (Will Coffee Cruda or Passiflora help ? )..

Any advice?

Please give him a single dose of Sulphur 200 and see how that affects in a week.

Will Suphur solve the problem of sleep or just congestion.
Thanks !

For his sleep will Chamomilla, Coffee Cruda or Passiflora be helpful ?

He don't sleep well even when he is not sick. He is obstinate to go to sleep first of all and wants to play. If we let him play then he will feel sleepy around 11.30 pm or so and asks us to carry him and help him fall asleep. Once he falls asleep as I mentioned earlier he will toss and turn and throw his legs and change his position very frequently as if he is trying to find a comfortable position. Once he is comfortable he is goes in deep sleep for may be 2-2.5 hr and then all of sudden cries and wakes up and asks us to carry him.
Even with slightest touch his sleep is disturbed and he start tossing/turning again. One thing I have noticed that from 4am-7.30am in morning he sleep peacefully without toss/turns but only if me or my husband is beside him. If we wake up at 5:00am he will wake up within 10-15 min.
During his daytime nap though he sleeps peacfully without toss/turn for 2 hrs during day.
He cannot sleep alone and somehow he senses that there is nobody around him even when he is asleep. He goes to daycare and there are lot of people around him during his daytime nap.

He absolutely have no other complains but Night time sleep and frequent cough/cold.

I am concerned more about his sleep than his cold.

I can provide more details for his symptoms if needed.

Please advice !!

Sulphur should help his sleep.

kadwa last decade
Hi ,
I gave my son a dose of Sulphur 200 last evening. Last night there was no change in his sleep routine. He woke up 2-3 times and was tossing turning a lot.I am going to watch his sleep pattern for another 4-5 days.
His pediatrician has recommended to get his Adenoids x-ray. She mentioned that sometimes these glands can swell and make breathing difficult and that might cause interrupted sleep.

roshbhaga last decade
Please see how it goes in a week. If there is no respite give him a single dose of Calc Carb 200 and see how that affects in a week.

kadwa last decade
Last night(Wednesday) he slept ok. He still woke up 2-3 times but without crying (YAY ...) and went back to sleep on his own. He did not ask to pick him up. He was still tossing /turning but not as much as before.
I will continue to watch any progress and will report back.

Dr Kadwa,
It seems like my son is benefited from Sulphur. He is not waking up frequently crying and ask to pick him up. He still toss/turn a lot and I think it is beacuse he is not able to breathe properly. He mostly breathes through his mouth at night. His pediatrician mentioned that it might be because of enlarged Adenoids. He is also frequently catching colds because of that. His tonsils are ok though. We have not taken his Adenoid xrays yet as his Ped first wants to give him Anti-histamine for about 4 weeks before getting his Adenoid x-ray. She mentioned that Zyrtec/Claritin might help shrink his adenoids which I am not sure how ??? Also I would prefer giving him homeopathic medicine rather than anti-histamine.

Is there any homeopathic medicine that could help his adenoids shrink (if in case it is enlarged)and help him breathe properly (i.e.thru nose and not by mouth).

I am also curious to know what was the reason for his nighttime crying, resistant to sleep and asking for picking him up and how did Sulphur solved it ?
Was it just insomnia ?

Thanks !

Agraphis nutans shall compliment sulphur for your child.

Breathing through mouth could be an indication for enlarged adenoids. If it is so Agraphis can surely help in the acute phase.

Try to procure in mother tincure form . Mix 5 drops in an ounce of water and give it twice a day.

Report back after a week.

Will Baryta Carbonica 30 have the same effects as Agraphis nutans?

roshbhaga last decade
This child may not respond to baryta carb. You should go for Agraphis Nutans Q. Sulphur is a deep acting remedy and it is capable of addressing all symptoms. Here Agraphis Q may complement it's action.

kadwa last decade
Baryta carb helps in some cases of tonsil problems. Adenoids are different from tonsils.

Which potency do I need to get for Agraphis Nutans Q. Does it come in various potencies. If I do not get the mother tincture which potency should I use and what should be its dose?

Do I have to give it to my son 2 times/day for 1 week?

Thanks !

Mother tincture is best. It is available on this site itself.

Click on the medicine's name in the left pane.

You are right about the dosage pattern.
