The ABC Homeopathy Forum

gerd

Hello,

I really hope someone will definitely answer my prayers on this forum.

My name is Ankur Varshney. I am 37 years old male from Bangalore, India. Am a software engineer.

I had suffered from esophageal ulcers nearly 15 years back(~2000) as a result of weak and irregular LES as found out via upper esophageal endoscopy done at that time. And got cured with treatment for around 6 months.

I remained okay for maybe next 3-4 years and then started having persistent bloating up or kind of "stuck up" sensation with burning in my stomach. I never understood clearly what it was and whenever symptoms got worse went to general physician who will prescribe a set of antacids tablets or syrups for a week's time or 10 days and were only temporarily fixed. Got recurrence of these symptoms periodically.

Still then it was never diagnosed what was the real cause of my misery. Once a Gastro specialist suggested to undergo a celiac allergy test which turned out to be negative. And the best he could advice is "you have to live with it". I was discouraged, however, I kept trying for several solutions as I was not ready to take his judgement as a final one.

I somehow managed to spent my later years struggling with my symptoms every now and then and hoping that somewhere I will definitely get a permanent solution.

All this went on until May 2011 when I started having a different set of symptoms along with the pre-existing ones. My nose remained chocked forever and every morning I woke up to be continuously sneezing with watery nasal discharge running for 3-4 hours every morning. It got worse and worse and thats when I went to a pulmonologist to know that I have developed "Allergic Rhinitis" with mild asthma and was put on steriods - nasal and oral inhalers - temporarily for the first time in my life till then.

However, my situation "never" improved after that and steroids were changed to higher doses or sister compositions only to make things worse. Being fed up I also looked up for alternative treatments (homeopathy) but to no help.

I used to get midnight to early morning (3-4 AM) asthmatic attacks every day which got worse day by day. Striving for breath I used to try one inhaler or another only to give temporary relief and nothing more. Every time I switched to a different homoepathy or allopathy practitioner my problems got worse and worse only to fall back again on steroids - one or another. That too gave only temporary relief. I consulted almost all the specialist doctors in my city Bangalore and everyone stamped me an ASTHMA patient and told me be on steroids forever throughout my life. However, I was not ready to accept the asthma stamp as I never had breathing problems earlier in my life except for this temporary phase.

All this misery continued till December 2013 and that is when for the first time I consulted an ENT surgeon who had expertise in both homeopathy and allopathy. He clearly told me that I was not at all Asthmatic. I was suffering from a disease called GERD which is actually the root case of all my breathing attacks, polyposis and sinusitis and every sort of problems I had been suffering from. And gave the explanation and principle of GERD and cure plan. I again started on a homeopathy treatment and wonders started from day one itself. I now required inhalers only once in a week or 10 days. Showed remarkable improvements, however no major improvements in my nasal blocks as the CT scan showed nearly 98% of blockage in my sinuses. Therefore after persisting the treatment for about 4 months the doctor decided to get a sinusitis surgery done to clear the nasal chokage first and later continue with the treatment.

A different surgeon did that surgery in my city Bangalore as the other doctor was 2000 miles from my place. With all the post surgery medication I had to temporarily abandon the homeopathic treatment. Since this surgeon put me on anti allergic tablets and nasal sprays I got relief for maybe 3 months (max). I thought that my misery was history. But, I was terribly wrong. All my earlier symptoms came back rapidly once the tablets were tapered down and eventually stopped.

I was back to square one hunting badly for a permanent solution to my problems. And that was when I resolved to hit back at the problem real hard. Whatever it takes. This was around september 2014 after I was hospitalized for 3 days for a worst asthmatic attack following severe abdominal pain and vomtting.

I decided to undergo all investigations for GERD or whatever disease I may have had - Upper esophageal endoscopy and biopsy, Manometery, pH impedance test. Biopsy report was normal. Manometry report was also normal ruling out a weakend LES(this was indeed surprising).

However, pH Impedance report showed clearly 57 episodes of acid reflux in 22 hours monitoring and 12.8% of esophageal acid. Doctor told me that I was strong GERD symptomatic and need to be on treatment for 6 months. They put me on PPI (Nexpro 40 mg twice a day).

From 10th day onwards I started to develop severe abdominal pain and was hospitalized on 21st of November 2014(last year) to be diagnosed with "Eosinophilic enteritis" another rare disease. They told that I have high esinophils and they have entered my small intestine wall making it swollen and stiff.

I was again put on short term steroids (2 weeks). Situation somewhat improved and one month passed and eventually I got the pain again and was hospitalized and put on steroids this time for 6 weeks. When I was on steroids my breathless ness also showed improvement. However, as soon as the treatment was tapered down both the pain and GERD symptoms came back again and again.

Last I was hospitalized in march this year for 3 days again for same pain and breathlessness. And I was on steroids(wysolone) since last 5-6 months until september 9th. Now the medicine is completely stopped and I am on ayurveda treament for a month. But there is absolutely no relief. Reflux, cough and asthmatic attacks are back again and this time I am really determined to wipe it out of my body completely whatever it takes.

I really need your able guidance to bring me out of this infinite misery trap as I know allopathy fixes the symptoms only temporarily and actually making things worse and worse with time. Today I found this fourm on net and hoping that I am not up for a disappointment again !

I am indeed banking heavily on your able guidance.

1. It would be really helpful if you could list out all the homeopathic remedies, potency and frequency of repeatition.

2. You have written complete history of sickness after gerd started. Kindly give history from your childhood. That would be more helpful in tracing the issue properly.

3. Use natrium phos 6x - 4 tablets, 4 times a day at an interval of 4 hours. Make sure doses dont exceed more than 4 in a day. This will control Gerd to maximum. Rest of prescription will follow once you give detail as per point 1 & 2.

1. Homeopathic medicines prescribed were -
Nux Vomica 30 - 3 times daily 3-4 drops directly on tounge.
Teucrium Marum 30 - --ditto--
kali bichromium 30 - --ditto--
Corticotropin 30 - --ditto--

For sometime Iris Versicolor 30 also with same dosage.
Cal. carb. 200 2 days

Some one time medicines like Dulca Mara
Sulphur 30, Sulphur 200 every 15-20 days (single dose).

2. Childhood - I was cold sensitive in my early childhood. Had developed tonsils later which got easily cured by homeopathic medicines.
With regards to digestion it used to be somewhat irregular - sometimes constipation, sometimes irregular motion, but overall nothing critical. I used to eat almost everything vegetarian without any dislikes. Later, I think from 1993-94 onwards I started to feel burning in my digestive track sometimes. I don't think I took any particular long term treatment for that until got it discovered in 2000 that I had developed spincters in food pipe and weak and irregular LES problem.

Marital Status: Married for 7 years
1] Your Complaint: GERD, Asthma, Abdominal pain

• What is your complaint?
Stomach pain/upset, constant cough, nasal blockage, breathlessness, bloating of stomach,

• When did the complaint begin?
4 years back these have become worst

• Where is it located?
Stomach, nose, lungs

• What sort of sensations (and emotions) do you associate with it?
I feel very low when every morning/night/midnight I cough and wheeze.

• Does anything make it better or worse?
Baking soda with water makes it better

• How does it bother you? How is it coming in way of your day-to-day life?
All aspects in my life are effected with my illness. My daughter was born in June 2012 while I had already developed this illness
and I felt so helpless that I couldn't play with my baby comfortably all the time. I could not devote so many moments of joy to her
and even my wife who takes good care of me and my kid. Now that she has grown up I couldn't lift her up, couldn't run with her and
play outdoor games as I immediately gasp for air as soon as I try to physcially exert myself. Couldn't study to take my career to
the next level as I woke up every morning coughing and wheezing for 1-2 hours and drain myself out completely.

• How does it feel like to have this/these problem/s?
I feel angry on myself for having trapped in this net of illness and not knowing the way to come out of it.

• What is the effect of this/these problem/s on you?
As explained above it effects all aspects of my life.

• Did any event happen which caused the complaint? Describe the emotion associated with it.
Nothing that I could remember clearly. Only that it developed gradually.

• What are the other symptoms started with it, esp. mental and physical symptoms, which are not directly related to the main

complaint.
I used to be an ambitious person. But now I have lost the zeal because of health problems.

• What are your reactions with it?
Sometimes I feel helpless being stuck in this vicious cycle. Immediately I become determined enough to wipe it out completely.
I feel why the hell this problem is happening to me and why I am not getting cured at all even after lots and almost all sorts of
medications in last 4-5 years. Sometimes in my low moments I feel like never be able to get cured and suffer with this illness

forever.

PLEASE ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS FOR EACH SYMPTOM/COMPLAINT SEPARATELY. DO NOT INCLUDE ALL OF YOUR COMPLAINTS TOGETHER IN EACH QUESTION.

Mental and Emotional State Description

1. What are the issues in your life that bother you the most. Not physical issues but mental or emotional ones. List each one

separately and describe why each one bothers you so much.
* Career - I feel like I have become stagnant in my career due to my health problems. I am unable to study a lot (as I used to
earlier). In my field study is necessary to succeed and grow.
* Financial - Unable to get better job I feel not able to save enough money for my family's future.
* Family - I am the eldest son of my old parents and my two younger brothers are still unsettled. And I am unable to do any good
thing for them. This is also at the back of my mind sometimes.
* Love - I loved a girl most before marriage and could not get married to her due to circumstances. I still remember her and keep
praying if I could ever be with her though I come to terms with life's reality soon. But her thoughts keep coming to my mind
every day especially when something hurts me emotionally. My wife is a very caring lady and knows about the fact that I loved this

girl and is acceptive towards this, but I hide from everyone that I still remember this girl.

2. What emotions are the most troublesome for you? What situations provoke these emotions. How do these emotions make you act? Do you

feel any ill effects from expressing or not expressing these emotions.
Any type of confrontations are very painful to me. I usually avoid these situations and give way to others if I feel the situation
is going that way. However, many times it is beyond my control especially when these happen suddenly and unexpectedly for which I
am not prepared to give way to others view point or prove mine. I determine then not to share my viewpoints or feelings with anyone
to be the optimal way to avoid those painful situations. I remember as a child most of the times I never used to express my
feelings to anyone else even when those were kind of painful feelings. I tend to philosophise them and my parents and elder said
that I had become mature at an early age.

3. What incidents in your life have had a deep impact on you? Describe each incident in detail and how they made you feel? What did

you do in those situations? What effect have they had on your life?

4. What are you afraid of? Especially important are phobias, but it might be objects, situations or events that just produce a high

level of anxiety. How do you manage your fears? How do you react when confronted with these fears? What would be the worst situation

for you to be put in that would provoke these fears? You may need to talk about each fear/anxiety separately.

Biggest fear is
5. What hobbies do you have? Why do you like each of these activities?

Books - Reading all sorts of books. I have a huge collection of books and used to read a lot of them in my younger days. Some of

them were related to mind programming. I somehow had a craving to utilize the mind to its highest potential. Could never do so,
however.

Guitar - I was a good guitarist in my student days. I had a lot of fan following in my college days. I still have a guitar but now

I don't play it. My wife and mother keep complaining about this but I somehow feel shy towards picking it up again.

Driving - I am fond of driving my car(little fast) and enjoy very long drives (order of thousands of miles with ease) which are

kind of bit risky and tiring to most of the people. Not sure if I can call this a hobby but that is something which I like.

6. Do you have any persistent thoughts, ideas or beliefs that are difficult to stop or cope with? What are they?

Underachiever - I have mostly thought that I am an underachiever in whatever I have undertaken - career, education - though I seem
to be an average man to the outside world. This goes against the benchmarks I had set for myself in my younger days. This leaves
me with a feeling to start all over again obviously which is not possible in the real world.

Too Critical - Sometimes I become too critical to other peoples' beliefs, way of life especially when faced with confrontations.

This is one of the reasons I usually avoid confrontations.

Riding parallel boats - I have always been desirous of being a know-all kind of person. Reading from several books. Had collected

a great number of books but never could I stick to just one book for any subject and master that well. I always wanted to correct

this but never could I solve this problem of mine.

7. Do you have any unusual gestures or movements of the body? Do you feel any unusual sensation or pain throughout your body? What

exactly does it feel like is happening in your body?
I tend to slightly bend my neck towards left sometimes. I used to bite/chew the skin inside my cheeks a lot during my childhood.

Unconsiously I keep tightening and loosening my teeth as if I am continuously chewing tiny pieces of food. I use to make absurd music

sounds with my mouth, sometimes absurd.

8. When you experience your fears, persistent thoughts, or difficult emotions, what kind of sensation or reactions do you get in your

body?

9. When did you feel at your best in your life? What was that like for you? If you imagine the complete opposite of this feeling or

moment, what would that be like?
When I got the first job as a software engineer I felt good and worthy of it. I felt the exact opposite when I lost that job after

five months. I felt best when years later I got a job offer with one of the best and respectable software companines in the world

- Oracle. I felt confident, loved, in demand and in power when I gave my stage performances as guitarist one after other. I felt

confident when I self taught subjects and guitar to myself.

10. Do you feel like you are stuck in a pattern of behavior, especially when trying to deal with your problems? What is this pattern?
I feel continously chewing inside skin of my cheek or lower lip and thinking about different things especially when reading books.

11. What difficulties or problems do you have in relationships? Talk about your family, your romantic relationships, your spouse or

partner, your friends, and your work colleagues. You may need to talk about all of these separately.

I am never able to share my feelings with any of my family members or friends. At times I feel irritated if my family members come

forward to help me out of a difficult situation. Basically I am saying that I don't like to be offered help.

12. List 5 positive things about yourself. Are there any situations where this positive attribute becomes negative (is a problem)?

Bounce back ability - I always remain an optimistic person during my failures and have a never-say-die attitude towards life. This
however becomes negative sometimes when applied in case of other people where I tend to blame them for their mistakes. Only
sometimes, though.

Pain absorbing - I usually never complain to anybody about the botheration that I may face because of them. This has a flip side
though, as they tend to take me for granted sometimes and when I actually realize it I usually react in a critical way.

Learner - I usually learn quickly from my own mistakes.

Empathatic - Generally I am very understanding and gentle towards others and listen to their problems with grace and suggest them

ways to handle them to the best of my abilities. Those same problems I can't solve for myself or rather couldn't follow the

instructions that I usually give them.

Motivator - People say that I am a good motivator and orator when I am faced with such a situation.

13. List 5 negative things about yourself. Are there any situations where this negative attribute becomes positive (is useful)?

Procrastination - I start off on tasks with vigour but soon get lost in so many directions(self imposed) consequently I become
overwhelmed and tend to defer those tasks.

Impulsive - At times I tend to become impulsive and lose my temper.

Poor Finisher - I have always felt that I can't maintain the same zeal towards the end of a task which I had towards the start of

that task. Many a times I don't finish the task and mix them with other tasks. Not sure why do I do that way.

Impractical - Sometimes I tend to take impractical methods to approach a task which is not so complicated in the first place.

Later, I find out through interaction with others that I tend to overdo or overthink about the problem at hand.

Porn - Sometimes I indulge myself watching pornography and later feel like wasted time and energy. I always feel like utilizing

that time in a better way but can't control that habit.

14. Do you have any reoccurring dreams? Describe them in detail, including any feelings that come while dreaming.
No recurrent dreams since my adulthood. As a kid I had one explained below.

15. Did you have any reoccurring dreams as a child, or earlier in your life? Describe those in detail including any feelings that

came with them.

When kid I used to had this recurrent dream of myself being lying down on a cot floating in a flooded ocean or river and drowning

down gradually. Feelings of little fear of the unkown used to be associated with this dream generally.

16. What were you like as a child, your character, your personality, your fears, your dreams, your problems?
I was an average child with good intelligence. I used to be an introvert kid afraid of asking or being asked questions in class or

clearing my doubts. This however improved when I went to higher classes when I became more confident of asking questions and

debating topics in class with teachers and classmates. I started off things with a lot of zeal but sooner than later lost energy to

pursue them further with regularity or dilegence most of the times. I always wanted to do things in a systematic way and excel in

each and every detail of that piece. However, most of the times it was the other way round and this added to my frustation and

consequently abandoning that work or deferring it to a later stage. Maybe my methods weren't right. I always aspired to be an ace

scientist but ended up being a computer engineer.

17. What kind of environment did you grow up in? What problems where there at home, with your family, with your parents, with your

siblings, with school?
I grew up in a middle class family with normal, healthy environment which parents give to their children. We were financially secure

as my father retired from a semi-government job. With siblings I had normal relationship - love, quarrel, empathy, backbiting etc.

With parents also I had healthy relationship. I was shy/intimidated with my father initially but that has improved a lot over time.

In school I enjoyed good relationship with classmates - had good number of friends. Rarely quarrelled in school. When I came to

higher classes I never enjoyed studies during classes. One reason was that I always thought that teachers were not "effectively"

teaching and I could do that much better myself. I started on diffenent ways of teaching myself and later I was left confused and

helpless with this attitude of mine.

GENERAL SYMPTOMS

1. Sleep - what position do you tend to sleep in?
On my left side most of the times.

Lying flat on my back I could rarely sleep

- do you do anything unusual in your sleep?

While going through your case, there were many things which were under consideration mainly:
- underachiever,
- suppressed anger,
- suppressed emotions,
- the girl you loved (btw why didn't you marry her --this might be helpful in diagnoses),
- being eldest son your responsibility towards your family.

My recommendation would be to take Natrium M 200, two doses only (12 hours apart), not to be repeated on daily basis.

One dose means:
If remedy in liquid form, take 2 drops of remedy in 2 teaspoon of water.

If in pills, take 3 pills as one dose.

Continue with Natrium Phos 6x, 4 tablets whenever, you feel acidity/gerd.

Update after 1 week.

Feel free to write me if you have any query.

Regards,
Mani

Hello Dr. Mani,

I took the medicines as you suggested :
Nat M 200 two doses.
Nat Phos 6x after meals.

However, I am not better. I am still getting asthmatic attacks every day and find very hard time to breathe. What should I do ?

The relationship with that girl turned hostile and I couldn't convince her.

Please take spongia tosta 200 (two doses as you did for Nat M) and continue with Nat Phos 6x.

Feed back after 1 week.

Hello Dr. Mani,

My situation hasn't improved much. Odd hourly asthmatic/gerd attacks occur on a daily basis. After lots of struggle I have to finally resort to nebulization (duolin) to help myself of breathlessness. Violent coughing persists during the attack.
