Depression - Need help

I've been battling with depression on and off since I was a teenager. Especially when unpleasant situations occur in my life. Of recent, I may have suffered post natal depression after 2 children (one is 3 yrs+ and the other is 1 yr +). But also, I've been unhappy in my marriage of almost 6 years since the first year. I feel depressed when I'm at home even when I'm with my children. I don't feel I love my partner any more and I'm very silent and irritable most times. I feel I can't leave the marriage because I fear the effect it will have on my children. I feel hopeless. I work full time and when I'm at work I often think a lot which distracts me and I end up not being productive. I often think my life is worthless and I may be better off not being alive but I will never go down the suicide route. So basically I feel hopeless and helpless. I've tried some vitamins and supplements, I've tried joining fitness classes and becoming more active which helps only for the time I do it and then I'm back to square 1. I've also lost faith in my religion of 20+ years because my situation has not changed despite my prayers etc. I'd really appreciate your help cos I feel like I'm at the edge of a breakdown. Thank you

Thank you for your response. I;ve tried to answer the questions as best as I can below.

1. Age,sex,weight,country,occupation.
34,Female,63kg,England (originally from Africa), Engineer

2. Main complaints and other associated troubles.
a)Where is the trouble; The exact locality of the complaint like hands, legs etc; duration of trouble.
Main problem is depression

b)What exactly do you feel, Sensation as pain, how pain feels or burn etc.
I feel hopeless and worthless. I feel like screaming out of frustration. I sometimes want to cry but I've learnt that it doesn't change anything so I don't bother to cry.

c)What are the factors that causes this trouble according to you.
Unpleasant situations in my life. Currently not happy in my marriage, not being very productive at work.

d)Condition under which the complaint is reduced or you feel better like, cold or hot application, cold or hot weather, position as standing, walking, rest etc.
I enjoy jogging or walking outdoors, I feel slightly better when it's nice and sunny. I tend to lie in bed a lot when I'm home.

e)Condition under which the complaint is increased like, cold or hot application, cold or hot weather, position as standing, walking, rest etc.
When I'm stressed, or when I'm with my spouse, or when the topic of marriage / relationships or any sad thing comes up in a discussion around me.

f)Any other complaint any where in the body.
other problems are nail fungal infection on my feet and hair loss around the front side hairline

g)Onset time of troubles in detail, i.e which came first, after that what problem and so on.
Been on and off despression since I was a teenager, maybe when I was 13/14 years old.
The nail fungal infection may have started years back but only became very bad in the last 5 years.
My hairline loss started last year in October after having a baby in July. I thought it was just hormones from the post-prgenancy but it is worsening as time goes on

h)Treatment method adopted and its result.
I've tried doing some research and ended up trying lycopodium 30cc for my depression, thuja 30cc for my nail fungus and phosporus for my hair loss. I tried it for 3 weeks. Then I stopped the lycopodium and switched to Pulsatilla 30cc which Ive been taking for 5 days now.

3. History of diseases in family.
History of fibroid in the women, hypertension

4. Personal History.
a)About childhood.
I didn't really enjoy my childhood. As the last born child of 6 chldren, I felt left out of a ot of things and not part of the family. I was also a tomboy as my closest sibling in age was a boy. Even though we lived in a highbrow area and parents had high paying jobs I always felt inferior to my peers because my parents stayed humbled. I didn't have a lot of friends even though people though I was nice.

b)Academic performance.
I've always shown intelligence since I started school. I had moments where I lost focus but recovered later. Overall I did very well in my academics and was offered a PHD position which I declined.

c)Any major incidents in life and the effect of it on life.

d)How you are satisfied with your sex life, friends, family members, company etc.
My sex life is not good at the moment - my spouse was a virgin at the time of marriage and even though we've tried to work on our sex life, I'm not satisfied. He does not communicate, does not try new things, does not try to find out what I like, and ejaculates after a few seconds of intercourse. He just doesn't seem to want much about do anything about it. I also have a higher sex drive than he does which doesn't help.
Friends- I don't have anyone I can call my friend. I have some close family members and acquaintances but that's about it. I really wish to have friends but it seems no one is interested and when they are they don't seem genuine to me
Family members - I'm close to a sister of mine who lives close by. She knows most of my problems but not all. I also have my husband's family close by. We're not too close but we get along okay.
Work-I've always struggled with work. I really enjoy it when I do my work well and I'm productive but i just lack the drive to do so and be proactive and develop my skills more. My peers seem more focused and driven than I do. I will often get distracted by thoughts of home, personal life, phones, etc. I'm unhappy about this.

5. Habits/Addiction.
a)Smoking, Alcohol,Sleeping pills, Laxative etc.
I smoked for 2 years (a bad habit I picked up from an ex-partner), I also used to take alcohol which I stopped 7 years ago but have started again in the last 2 years but not heavy at all.

b)Masturbation and frequency.
I try not to maturbate especially recently - in the last year maybe twice or 3 times

6. How is your Appetite and Thirst.
I don't have a large appetite but I tend to like sweet and sugary things even after a meal. I hardly drink water even though I take drinks that have water in them. In the last few months I've been concentrating on drinking more. Sometimes drinking water makes me vomit especially on an empty stomach.

7. Likes and Dislikes.
a)Alcohol Bread Butter Bitter Salt Sweet Sour Fats Milk Mud Chalk Egg Spicy food Meat Fish Fruits Fried Food
Warm food-drink Cold food-drink Ice Ice cream Chocolates Tea Coffee.
Likes - sweet, bread, ice cream, hot food, spicy food, meat, cold drinks, chocolates
Dislikes - strongly smelling fish, very sweet pastry, sweet food, strong menthol, melons

b)Anything else about like and dislike of any activity with you or surrounding.
ANS.

Varies, at least once daily, satisfactory

b)Any discomforts associated with stool.
No

9. Urine.

currently between 3-5 times daily

b)Any discomfort before, during or after urination/odour
No - unless i've had to hold it for a long period of time before going

11. For Females.
a)Menses, Regular, Irregular,Early, Late.
Irregular, late, previously diagnosed with PCOS

b)Duration of menses.
previously used to be approx 4 days but I'm not using the Implanon implant birth control which makes it 7 days

c)Nature of flow, Scanty, Blood colour, Consistency, Odour, Staining, itching/ when and what makes it worse/better.
previously scanty, but now varied - some days heavy bright red, most times dull red/brown scanty.

12. Sleep.
a)The quality of sleep, the quietness or restlessness of sleep,
position of sleep, times of waking and reasons for waking,
need for cover over various parts of the body,
whether the window must be open or closed etc.
common dreams, peculiar sounds or gestures during sleep, etc.
I'm a light sleeper, prefer to sleep on my sides - sometimes on my stomach. i often waake up at different times and can't immediately go back to sleep. I start to think a lot especially about plans or my personal life (usually sad things)
I hardly remember my dreams and when I do they make sense in the dream but not in reality. I like to cover rmy arms and feet. I find the sound and feel of a fan soothing.
I find it hard to fall asleep even when exhausted - I feel like my life is not happy and I haven't progressed as the day has come to an end.

13. Sweat
a)How much, what parts, staining, Odour.
mostly sweat during exercise - usually face and armpit, with odour if the exercise is intense.

14. Weather
a)Tolerance to heat and cold, dryness, humidity, weather changes, sun,
foggy weather, wind drafts, closed rooms, etc.
I like being warm, i prefer summer time to any other season. I don't like it when I'm out aand it rains. I like it when it's sunny, and also when it's dry.

15. Mental Status
a)The quality of the patient's life in relationship to loved ones, family, friends and colleagues. Overall quality of energy available to function in daily life, and under various circumstances.
I often enjoy company of friends, family, colleagues but crave solitude at the same time. It takes a lot not to show my depressed emotions when around people.

b)Any mental/emotional shocks occurring in the patient's life-grief, major financial losses separation from loved ones, death, identity crisis and other stress in life.
I was molested sexually twice as a child around 6 -7 years old. I'm not sure if it has a clear negative effect on my mental or emotional self but i still remember the events

c)Memory,ability to concentrate/comprehend.
I tend to forget most things easily but then for a few things i have very accurate memory with attention to detail. I tend to struggle with concentration at work or when doing tasks I don;t like or when I'm doing something with my children around me.

d)Are you fearful of anything eg: Animals, people, being alone, darkness, death, disease, robbers, thunder, storm, high places.
Not really afraid of most animals but i do not like big spiders or bugs, I fear not living up to my full potential.

e)Are you anxious about anything: if yes, give details.
I'm a little anxious about what people think of me. Some times I doubt my strengths, skills and capabilities

f)Are you impatient.
Yes, not all the time though

g)Are you doubtful or suspicious.
I doubt a lot.

h)Are you hurt easily (emotionally)how do you react. Does it cause hatred/revenge.
I used to get hurt easily when I was younger but I'm slightly better. I usually react by keeping quiet and if alone I tend to cry a bit.

i)Does your pride get hurt easily.
Not really.

j)Are you depressed, if so, reason/circumstances.
Yes, i think marriage, job, self-worth.

k)Do you like to share your problems.
I hardly share my problems. If I do I must trust the person wholeheartedly and also believe that the person can do or say something to help the situation.

l)Effect of consolation.
I like the fact that I'm been consoled but I do not know how to receive it well. I tend to act indifferent or push it aside.

m)Do you ever become suicidal when? How.
Several low points in my life - but I don't believe in taking my own life.

n)Memory- quality if poor, for what ( eg. Names, places, people, what you read).
Mostly faces, places

o)Do you weep easily, effect of weeping, ie, does it make you worse or better.
I used to cry easily and very often when I was a bit younger. Now I hardly cry but still feel the urge to when I get hurt or really depressed.

p)Are you easily irritated. What makes you angry, how do you express it.
I don;t like it when things don't make progress. I like progress in all areas of my life no matter how slow. I do not like when people act too slow or sluggish. I get easily irritated with that.
I get angry when things don't seem fair.

q)Are you destructive.
No

r)How good are you in making decisions.
I see myself as a very logical thinker but I still struggle with making decisions every now and then

s)Do you like company or like to remain alone.
Both - leaning more towards being alone

t)How seriously are you affected by disorder and uncleanness in your surroundings.
In my ideal world, I'm a minimalist. I love order and clean surroundings. Not extreme OCD but to some extent. I feel I can think clearer, be more focused, and more productive with a tidy and clean environment

u)How does failure appear to you?
I don't mind a little bit of failure - ONLY if i can learn a lot from it and avoid the same mistakes moving forward. I find constant failure very discouraging

v)Are there any matters that you deeply dislike?
Cruelty and evil in the world - I just don't understand it. For this reason I hate getting involved in political discussions or even watching the news

w)What activities you deeply like? How does it affect your mood?
I like travelling seeing new places. I like doing things that involve being active but not so serious e.g. swimming / water based fun activities, tennis, kart racing, etc

x)Are you affectionate? How does others sorrow affect you?
I think yes, I'm quite empathic. I always feel moved to help people in direct situations or fight for them when they need support.

y)Any present fears in your life or future.
That I will never be happy. That I will never fulfil my full potential in terms of my skills and also my purpose in life.

z)Any present life or future life desires.
tO be happy, to be the best that I can be, to be in love, to be a good mother and wife, to excel in my career.

Dear D w x,
'Please note the user name of who is replying to you. One should click user names and see who is giving advice
And their prior cases. Anyone can join this forum and give advice.

I suggest you wait for antivirus to study your answers and prescribe.
Telling people to take extreme high potency on a forum, without face to face is dangerous.

Thank you Dit for your advice. And Simone717 thank you I will bear that in mind.

Please I'd be very grateful for more help and advice. I need help urgently.

Thanks in advance

Wait for antivirus to prescribe. You have to work with one person and follow their prescription. New people to the forum, or those new to homeopathy, sometimes think they can take multiple prescriptions and that people collaborate on their case.

Homeopathy in chronic cases like yours takes time and experience to decide how to evaluate your information.

Hello antivirus.

Thank you so much for your prescription and help. I took the graphites.it's been 20 days today.

One positive thing I noticed was that I became more focused and productive at work. This change was also noticed by my boss and some colleagues. I was more proactive and less distracted. Unfortunately that only seemed to last about 2 weeks. This past week I seemed to be regressing little by little.

In terms of my general wellbeing. I still felt unhappy and depressed especially when I was at home or thinking of coming home. I felt even worse during my last period (last week). At a point I had thoughts I would die. I miss my children when I'm away but once I'm home I feel stressed and unhappy and this makes me feel bad as I want to be happy around them.
I've also not been sleeping very well. A lot of times I feel I don't sleep deep. I wake up with any little noise. Or if I have to wake up for some reason I can't get myself back to sleepick easily.

Please I need more help. I look forward to your response. Thank you again

ok please tell me about your daily routine, current family members you are living.

antivirus

0antivirus0 7 years ago
Thank you so much for responding.

My daily routine Monday to friday is:
wake up between 6am and 7am
shower get ready for work and get my older daughter ready for school.
I drop her off at my sister's house who later takes her to school as I start work earlier than her school.
I work from 8am till 4.30pm with 30 mins break. It's 90% desk / computer job.
After work I go home to be with the children. I prepare dinner, feed them, prepare them for bed.
When they go to bed, I tend to just watch a little TV, or browse on my phone or laptop in bed till I fall asleep. Sometimes I clean and do some laundry depending on when needed.
I attend a fitness class 2-3 times a week in the evening after work.
Also, some evenings I do some food shopping for the home.
On Saturdays, I take my daughter to her dance class in the morning, then mosty try to rest at home and do somem cooking, house chores etc. On Sundays I go to church and afterwards, usually go and see family. Most of the time we visit husband's mom from afternoon till evening time.

In my home, it's just myself, husband, 2 daughters and a live in nanny that looks after the children while we are at work.

I hope I've answered your question well. Please let me know if you want more information.

Look forward to hearing from you.

have you tried counseling for depression before ??

0antivirus0 7 years ago
No I haven't. I don't know of any free or subsidized counselling in my country. I wouldn't be able to afford it.

Do you think homeopathy will not help me?

dwx88 7 years ago
Dear dwx

I have just one word for you PITTA.This is the key to your healing I have no doubt whatsoever.

I know anti virus would address this so wait for him.

Being a PITTA you would figure that out.;)

Post when you have understood

and yeah do revisit your diet.

Any acidity issues currently or heat sensitivity ? ?

Dear Dwx,

The first thing you must do in depression is rule out physical cause.

If your energy is not flowing thru the body correctly one will feel instantly depressed.

You said you have struggled since teen years. And it is worse when you have your period. Things like hormone imbalance, low iron, low blood pressure , allergies , etc , low vitamin d and b , food absorption issues can be caused. If physical issues are handled, energy rises and depression is gone.

No amount of counseling or psych meds will fix the physical issues.

1.go get a CBC complete blood count
And liver panel count.
2. Are there problems with your period ?
3.are you on birth control pills as this alone makes many depressed?
4. You have the NHS.. if you google depression and nhs they list $75 hour for therapy and list about 4 orgs that do for no cost.
5. You can make a new thread with teupne if you want to try Ayurveda healing.
6. There is an excellent homeopath i
In London and other areas who will do a free 15 minute Skype session with you to determine if he can help you or give other direction.google Mike Andrews homeopathy. He is a well known homeopath and also monitor of new homeopaths in the U.K.

simone717 7 years ago
Thank you so much for your response.

I've taken several things for hormonal imbalance but nothing worked. I taken vit d, vit b, iron tablets, liver tablets. Nothing works. I had this condition before starting to use birth control. I have also used non-hormonal birth control in between my two pregnancies with not much difference.

I did do a blood count a year ago and it was normal.
I've always had irregular periods but now they seem a bit settled now.
I am currently using the Implanon birth control (arm implant) which is hormonal. But i've felt depressed with and without any birth control.

I can try and find the 4 organisations that offer free counseling. And also check Mike Andrews.

I am not familiar with ayurveda healing at all. I will read up on it.

Thank you again for your response. I appreciate it.

dwx88 7 years ago
Try liver test for Sgpt and Sgot.

If higher then normal it is due to excess pitta and may be the root cause of your depression.

So liver enzyme test is a must.
Any acidity/heat sensitivity? ?

Teupne 7 years ago
I'm sorry Teupne. I must have missed your message as I've only just noticed it. Thank you for replying.

What do I need to do about my diet?
I'm not sure I understand the acidity and heat sensitivity question.

I don't have any known issues with acidity. In terms of heat sensitivity, I usually have cold feet and hands but I like to be warm and enjoy the summer time weather.

Thank you.
