The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Need urgent help please, boy 4 years old, provided all details.

I have written here and explained my son's condition,
My oldest son is 4 years old, he has several issues that I hope homeopathy can help us resolve. My son is grinding his teeth in sleep, before going to sleep and when he is angry. He also bites on his finger nails all the time, I have to tell him literally all the time to take his fingers out of his mouth. He started biting his fingers when I stopped giving him his pacifier at the age of 8 months. He also has the issue of bed wetting, he does that closer to the morning, and sometimes during day sleep. He has loss of appetite, complaining of stomach ache, I do not think though that he really has stomach ache. He complains of being tired, when at soccer practice, he does not want to run anymore and lays down on the ground, when we are on a walk, he wants me to carry him, because he is tired. He sleeps good during the night though. He used to love to eat soups, not anymore though. He never drinks any milk, does not like eggs and does not eat mushrooms. He does not drink any juice or tea, he only drinks water. He hates pastry and refuses ice cream. He likes noodles, rice, chocolate. He is not constipated and has never been. He was born full term, but my labor with him was very fast, he was born within 3 hours, during pregnancy I had the threat of miscarriage. He was slow, he sat down started rolling at 4 months and sat down at 8 months later than supposed, but started walking at 1 year, also he started talking later than most kids, at the age of 2, but I am not sure if that happened because he is bilingual. He was immunized last at the age of 6 months, with hepatitis, DTaP and polio. After that he felt really bad for couple months, he was not active and did not want to move and felt like lying only. So I stopped any further immunization. He is a healthy kid, but he is prone to false croup, when he can hardly breath. He does not like to sleep under the blanket, and his head sweats when he sleeps. He picks his nose mostly when I read him before bedtime. He is scared of darkness and often he runs to sleep with us. He has always been a good sleeper, but he has always needed me by his side, since he was a baby. He is inattentive, as in he does not listen to what we tell him and does not comply, he likes to run around instead of listening to coach during sports practices. He cries easily, if he can not get his toy out of box, he will cry and yell for me, he will cry if we take a toy away from him, and when he gets mad he throws toys and things around the house. He is very talkative. He loves to run in circles and to run away, he is very impatient and can not wait his turn, he trades toys with his little brother and then trades them right back because he hates the idea that his brother has any toy, he wants all of it. At the same time he is not aggressive. And he is attentive when I read him books, he loves to read and can sit and listen for hours.
I gave my son Thuja 200 for vaccination effects, then Calc Carb 5 pills in the morning, and Silicia for the night for 15 days. After Thuja I noticed improvement in finger nail biting and teeth grinding, the child almost did not bite his fingernails and stopped grinding his teeth during the night. In 6 days after I gave him the dose of Thuja, he got sick with upper respiratory tract infection and he had very high fever for 5 days, so I had to give him paracetamol several times, as well as homeopathic syrup for cough. He started biting his finger nails again, he does that when he is nervous. I proceeded with treatment as advised, I was giving him Calc Carb in the morning and Silicia before bed time. He stopped failing to get to the bathroom during the day time, he still suffers bedwetting during the night though. He is much calmer now, and listens more, but he runs away during practice, and he does not listen to coach and when we are at practice and he is around other kids, he gets distracted and may run away. The treatment helped us a lot, it is easier to discuss with him and come to common terms. His head does not get as sweaty during night as it did before. He falls asleep in his room, even though he is still scared of darkness, I leave the door open and turn on the light behind the door.

I would like to get help with following symptoms:
1) Nail biting when nervous
2) He is distracted, I would like him to concentrate more on what is said, to listen.
3) Running in circles, he likes to do that, when other kids are doing something productive
4) in May he is going to preschool, I do not want him to get stressed out.
5) my son is prone to false croup, which means he gets sick and then during night time he can not breath. Usually I turn on the hot steam humidifier to make it easier for him, but couple times it was so bad that we took him to emergency care, and there they gave him bronchodialators, but they did not work very well.Is there something I can give him for croup? And to help his immune system adapt to preschool, so that he does not get sick very often.

Thank you very much

GUIDELINES FOR GIVING HOMOEOPATHIC CASE INFORMATION

It is important to describe all your problems in as much detail as you are able. One word answers and short sentences are not particularly helpful. Discuss each problem one at a time, providing (as a minimum level of detail) the following information.

1. What exactly happens? My son is 4 years old, he is biting his finger nails, he gets tired easy, he is impatient and does not listen. These are my concerns with him. He is a healthy kid, but he is prone to false croup, when he can hardly breath, I help him with a hot steam humidifier. His father used to have false croups when he was a child.

2. Describe all sensations and pains. Each pain or sensation should be described in such a way that allows us to imagine having the same pain.
My son complains of stomach aches, after meal, after half of his plate is gone he says his stomach hurts and wants to go lay down on the couch. He is a very slow eater, he can eat 1 plate for several hours.
He bites his nails when he is worried, when he is excited, like when he is around kids, also when watching cartoons and when he is in his car seat in the car.
He is prone to false croups
He is very energetic, he likes to run in circles in the middle of the room, at the same time he gets tired easily during sport practices outside, and he does not want to finish running, he just stops and says he wants to lay down on the ground and he does that.
He is very inattentive, he gets easily distracted, the couch has to tell him constantly what he sould do, because he cannot hold his attention at that, he can not resist running away.

3. What causes the problem to get worse after it has started occurring?
His finger nail biting started when I took his pacifier away at the age of 8 months, because he started refusing to nurse, so I took it away and never gave it back.
Another problem is that he is physically weak, he looks very energetic, runs around, but when he is at sports practice, the coach tells him to exercise and he would and then he runs out of energy and stops running and lays down on the ground. I noticed that couple months ago, when he started going to practices. And also when he is walking, even if we have just left the house, came to a restaurant, he does not want to walk next to me, he wants me to carry him, saying he is tired.
He does not pay attention to what is said, he gets easily distracted and I or the coach have to yell him to pay attention, to exercise and comply with commands. He likes to run away, in the soccer field he runs away to the dirt and sand field and likes to run there, creating a cloud of dust. He says it is a desert. With other kids he gets easily distracted, he loves mirrors and he likes to make faces there. He has always been like that. He is very impulsive, he used to throw toys all the time, he still does, but not as often now, he does that out of anger and just for fun. He used to yell a lot, he still does, he yells when I turn TV off or take his toy away, or tell him to share with his brother.
He has never been shy, if we are at a party, he has to be in front, he can easily jump onto the stage with artists, he comes up to strangers very easily. And he is very sweet, he does not fight, he does not like when his brother cries or when I cry, he runs to comfort. My husband says that our oldest son is just spoiled, because he loves gifts and I get him toys all the time, and he demands more gifts.
4. What creates some relief for the problem?
If I repeat every 2 seconds to listen, to stop biting his nails, he will listen and not do that.
If we repeat 20 times- do that, great job, continue, keeping his attention at focus until he finishes, that helps.
5. What triggers the problem into occuring?
When he gets excited, nervous he bites his nails and gets distracted.
6. What time of the day or night does the problem occur?
Morning and during the day.

7. When did the problem start? What was happening in your life at that time? Did some specific event or treatment take place just before the problem started?
With the finger nail biting, I took his pacifier away at the age of 8 months. With not listening, he used to be always very independent, he could run away from us and not pay attention that we are going the other direction, he is always running in front of us and rarely looks back. He is pretty clumsy, meaning that he has a lot of bruises, because he runs and does not notice where he is running to, so he falls often, when he was younger he used to run in the wall sometimes. At the same time he was great at climbing, right after he started walking, he started climbing and could climb absolutely anything, we were amazed at that. I do not know if that is relevant, but we moved from Moscow to California, when my son was 1 year old, so the climate change was drastic, from cold to hot. Besides, we fly every winter to Russia, from warm climate to cold.
He was throwing toys all the time as well, he liked that.

Move from one problem to the next, doing the same thing. IT IS VITAL THAT YOU GIVE A COMPLETE PICTURE OF YOUR HEALTH BY PROVIDING ALL PROBLEMS YOU HAVE, EVEN IF NOT CONNECTED TO THE MAIN ONE, AND EVEN IF YOU CONSIDER IT OF LESS IMPORTANCE. You should address each problem separately using the above 7 questions as a guide.

As well as this, please describe any traumatic incidents that have taken place in your life. Discuss anything that has had a lasting impact on you mentally, emotionally or physically.
I think that a heavy impact was when his brother was born, my oldest son was 1 year and 10 months when my youngest son was born, and my oldest son was very jealous, he used to yell at the little one in the car, tried to sit down on his head, tried to push the chair on the swing with the little one. I tried my best to spend most of my time with my oldest son, the one that has all these issues.
Also he started getting scared of darkness after we went to Disneyland for his 3rd birthday, he still is scared of darkness, says he is scared of his car-bed that he sleeps in and the mirror in his room.

Discuss the way that you manage or deal with your problems, or any problems that occur in your life. He manages his problems by yelling and asking me for help, he tries once, if it does not work he starts yelling, asking me for help. If he wants something, he will climb and get it.

Discuss any part of your life where you feel stuck or unable to change and grow, especially where this occurred around the beginning of your disease, or as the disease evolved.

Describe your childhood and the kind of environment you grew up in, with reference to your relationships with your family, your school experiences, and any serious childhood diseases.
My husband is pretty strict with my son, he loves our second son to death, and our oldest son feels that he is not his favorite. This affects the relationship with other people, he wants to sit next to his couch, he wants to hold hand of couch, he wants to be loved. Even though I try to love him most, I hug and kiss him all the time, tell him all the time how much we love him, and let him sleep in my our bed, so that he feels that he is very much loved. He has not been going to childcare, so he wants to make friends already and starting May he is going to childcare.

If your earlier discussions have not mentioned these already, please describe:

1. The specific foods that you crave (not just like) or hate
He hates everything hot, the food should be room temperature otherwise he makes an unhappy face and says it is hot. He doesn’t eat ice cream, pastry, desserts, cakes, and staff like that. He does not drink juice or tea. He hates mushrooms. He loves green salads, chicken, he craves meat, he loves soups, noodles, and buckwheat. Today he asked me for sweet nuts, that is strange for him.
2. The specific drinks that you crave or hate. He drinks pure water only, and not a lot. Though today he was drinking more during practice. Normally he drinks little and just water, no juices, no teas. I give him porridge with milk, he does not drink milk though.
3. What your sleep is like. He sleeps good, he sleeps with me, he has only night sleep, but 10-11 hours straight and if I have to wake him up early, he does not like that, and it is hard, it takes several minutes to wake him up.
4. How the weather and the temperature affects you. He does not get cold much, he sleeps without blanket. He is alright in hot climate
5. What kinds of things in the environment you are particularly sensitive to
Nothing I have noticed. He loves water though, he loved to bath, to swim in the pool.
6. What your general level of energy is like .
He is energetic, but has muscle weakness, or his energy is gone very fast.
7. He used to like to dress my clothes, though he is a boy, he loves my dresses and walks around in them, as well as in my shoes. I have not seen him do that for several weeks though. But before it used to be his favorite activity, he would get in my closet and start trying on my dresses, he loves silk.

Children's Questions:

1. What occured to the mother during pregnancy - new symptoms, illnesses, medical treatments, emotional stresses.
The pregnancy with this child was difficult, my uterus was always hard, and the doctor was saying that there is a threat of miscarriage. I was very active, working till 9 months and studying in 2 Universities. I conceived right after wedding and at that time I was smoking and having some alcohol, but I quit once I found out that I am pregnant at less than 4 weeks of pregnancy. I was exposed to cigarette smoke though, because everyone is smoking in the city where I used to live. That pregnancy was hectic, I was always in a rush.

2. What problems occured during the birth?
The doctor broke my water bag, and in 3 hours after that I had a baby, which was very quick for a first baby. They did not use any medications though, it was vaginal delivery, the baby’s neck was however a little hurt in labor, it was weak for his first year and the massage specialist helped us. He was breastfed right after birth.

3. What was happening in the mother's life around the time of conception? I was 23 years old, right after our wedding I conceived, I was smoking and drinking red wine.

4. What illnesses did both parents have for the 5 years or so preceding conception?
None, both my husband and me are healthy.

5. Describe the following features of the child

a) Body type and build. My son is short for his age, but both my husband and me are short, he is very proportional, long muscular legs and very thin butt, he is slim, but has a belly.
b) Skin colour and texture. He is white, healthy skin, his skin has tiny bumps on his cheek bones and on his upper arms, but I have the same, so that is genetic.
c) Areas of the body tends to perspire on. It used to be his head, but after the treatment with Thuja 200 for vaccination effects, then Calc Carb 5 pills in the morning, and Silicia for the night for 15 days, it is not a great issue anymore. His head gets sweaty though, when he runs, as well as his palms and back.
d) Odour of sweat, body, stool, flatus, urine. His sweat does not have a particular smell now, but when he was an infant, his sweat smelled sour, like sour milk, and it was acidic a little, because I would get irritation around my lips because of kissing him. His occipital part of the head used to sweat a lot, and he got a bold spot there, because he rubbed that part of the head on the bed. Now his hair is very thin, blond and soft, and on the occipital part of the head it gets tangled really badly. His head, face and neck sweats now when he is running.
His urine does not smell, and his stool smells sometimes, and does not smell other times.
e) Colour of stool, urine, sweat
His stool is solid, normal consistency, it is regular, he is not constipated, his urine is yellow in the morning and light during the day.

6. Give any reactions to vaccines or medical drugs.
He reacted very bad to immunization when he was 6 months old. He was immunized last at the age of 6 months, with hepatitis, DTaP and polio. After that he felt really bad for couple months, he was not active and did not want to move and felt like lying only. So I stopped any further immunization, he has not had immunization for 3.5 years. He has not reactions to medical drugs, at least we do not know any.
Miscellaneous:
He has always been a good sleeper, but he has always needed me by his side, since he was a baby, he would sleep with me by his side only. He loved to sleep outside until he turned 1 year old. He is inattentive, as in he does not listen to what we tell him and does not comply, he likes to run around instead of listening to coach during sports practices. At the same time he is not aggressive. And he is attentive when I read him books, he loves to read and can sit and listen for hours.
I gave my son Thuja 200 for vaccination effects, then Calc Carb 5 pills in the morning, and Silicia for the night for 15 days. He falls asleep in his room, even though he is still scared of darkness, I leave the door open and turn on the light behind the door.

Doctors, please reply, I am lost. Should I continue giving my son Calc Carb and Silicea? Or should I give him different medicine for his condition?

Lexus last decade
Neither Calc-carb or Silicea seems indicated.

This seems to me to be a very clear Tubercular case - I would suggest Tuberculinium 200c first. One dose only.

Let me know when you have the remedy and I will tell you how to give that single dose.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Thank you. I have ordered the remedy online today, will get it this week, because we could not find it anywhere in stores. Can you please advise how to administer the dose? What should be the interval in time between the last Calc Carb dose administered and the Tuberculinium? I am worried that the dose of Tuberculinium might get affected by previously given Calc Carb.

Thank you

Is it important to mention, that my son was immunized against tuberculosis when he was born? And the spot of immunization, a bump got very much infected when he was 9 or 10 months, the bump got very large, red and was prominent over the level of his skin, but no puss in there. We ran to see the doctor, and in 3 days it was gone. The baby was not comfortable due to this bump, it either itched or hurt a little.

A remedy cannot be affected by remedies taken in the past - this is impossible. They could only be affected by remedies taken afterwards.

If a remedy has not changed the patient in any way positive, there is no need to delay moving to a new remedy.

Thank you for your clarification. I am waiting for this medication to arrive to start treatment.

I wanted to mention that my son is rarely cold, he feels fine playing in the snow when we go to Moscow, Russia. He sleeps without blanket, even when it is cool and I feel cold and sleep under feather blanket. Another thing worth mentioning is that he likes to be naked, at home he takes his clothes off and runs around naked. I keep telling him to put his pants on, it works for a while and then again he takes the pants off. This disturbs me, because yesterday during walk he took his clothes off and undressed his little brother, until I told him to put his underwear and pants on. His mental cognition is not great for his age. He loves to read books and he knows how to read, he learned to read at the age of 3,5 years, but he does not ask me many questions, he can't clearly express his thought, he struggles to pick the right words, his memory is very selective. In the morning I was reading him about animals, so I read him what bears eat, and asked him right away, so what do they eat. He could only remember 1 thing, and nothing else. I read second time and asked him again and again he could remember just 1 thing. At the same time, when I read him a book and then we read it again, even much later, like in a month, he might remember some small detail there.
He never was afraid of anything, and now he tells me that he is afraid of mirror in his room during the night, pictures of people that we have in the room and his race car bed. He is scared of witches in cartoons, he cries and asks me to turn it off, and of magicians. He is scared of one cartoon that features a sloth, he does not like the appearance of sloth.

There are a number of obstacles in this case we may need to remove - the miasmatic taint (inherited predisposition to disease), the bad reactions to vaccines, but I am hoping the Tuberculinum will do some good work with him.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Doctor, while I am waiting for his tuberculinum in the mail, I wanted to mention something, that might be important. He hates when something gets on his clothes, when I am feeding him porridge, if some porridge gets on his pants or shirt, he starts yelling and taking clothes off, saying it is dirty, if water gets on clothes, he does same thing. His hands might be dirty though, but not wet-dirty, and his clothes might be dirty, but not wet-dirty. He hates to eat by himself, either I feed him, or he will sit forever. Recently he is stuck on the idea of going over to see grandparents to Moscow, even though he knows that 16 hour flight is painful. He loves to paint, and he gets very messy during the process. he does not take things away from other kids, but he is trying to trade. He does not care about his toys, he does not get upset if other kids are playing with his toys, he wants other kid's toys. He gets upset when his younger brother takes his toys though and he has to take every toy from his brother. He does not care if the clothes is tight or loose, it does not bother him, He can wear scarves, collared shirts and polo.
He does not get sick though, he is a healthy kid, but if he gets sick with a virus and has stuffy nose, I turn on the hot steam humidifier, otherwise he will develop false croup. his father had it too when he was young. My son is not competitive at all, he does not care about winning competition. I will add more details when I remember something.

Doctor, I got tuberculinum 200C today in small granules. Please advise how I should give it to my son. Thank you

Lexus last decade
Do you have a small bottle with a dropper on it. Make sure it is clean by boiling the bottle for a minute or so if it has been used for something else (not the dropper). Clean the dropper by squeezing boiling water in and out of it.

Dissolve 3 granules into a mixture of water and alcohol - any kind of spirit is fine (one without cream or milk in it). I usually use brandy or vodka. 1 part alcohol to 5 parts water.

Hit the bottle twice firmly against the palm of the hand. Place 1 drop into a full cup of water. Stir thoroughly, and give him 1 teaspoon into the mouth. Do this once only and report the reaction after 5 days (or anytime before that if there is some reaction you want to discuss).

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Thank you, I will do it tomorrow morning and report the results.

I have given my son the medication as you suggested, and so far no change in attention. The change that I have noticed for today is that he started drinking more water, he was thirsty a lot today, and he woke up during the night. We have not had that for a long time that he would wake up, usually he falls asleep and sleeps till morning, and today 2 hours after he went to bed he woke up to ask for some water. Also I saw him eating paper today, which I thought was very weird, he has never done that before. He bit a piece of book cover and chewed it, then he swallowed it. I was very surprised.

Constitutional remedies may take up to a week to start showing improvement. It is more likely that in the first few days there will be aggravation - a worsening of his normal problems (may be physical, may be behavioural). He may also experience a sudden return of old symptoms (which is a particularly good sign). Once the aggravation begins to die down, you should start to see improvement if the remedy is correct.

Doctor, my son developed bad fever last night. In the morning he coughed 2 times, during the day he was active and before night he said that he was cold and wanted a blanket, which is not typical for him. When I went to bed I noticed that he was shivering and moaning in his sleep, he was very hot. He slept very bad till the morning, woke up and cried in his sleep. What should I do? Is there a chance to contract tuberculosis from homeopathic remedy?

Lexus last decade
I wanted to mention, that he still has very high fever, it is 40C, and he is not moving, lying on the couch and moaning. What can I give him to reduce his fever?

Lexus last decade
No it is impossible to contract TB from a homoeopathic remedy. However, a fever is a fairly common reaction in children as a reaction to a remedy (and in some adults too). If it is a remedy reaction this is still a good sign, and after fevers you will often see more healing. It is around 4 days after the dose, this is a very typical time for aggravation to peak (be at it's worst).

However it is also possible he has coincidentally become sick with an acute illness.

Has he ever been like this before?

What other symptoms does he have?

The signs that I observe now is the high fever, 40C, he normally develops high fever when he is sick, he has some not much watery discharge from his nose now, the discharge is clear. He is cranky, crying and wants to have a blanket. He is not eating anything, he barely ate some blended fruit today. Yes, he has had that before, the symptoms are that of viral infection. I do not know if this sickness was caused by his treatment or it is a virus. He was fine all day yesterday, he was very active and happy in the evening, running around, in the car he almost fell asleep, and right away I sent him to bed, he fell asleep fast, and at 1 in the morning I touched him and understood that he has very high fever. My concern is- should I give him tylenol or paracetamol to bring down his fever, because it is 40C, and if I use it, will it interfere with his homeopathic treatment? So far I have not used any fever reducers. If it is the effect of homeopathic treatment, how long will it last?
And the positive effect is that he did not wet his bed during the night, but it might be because he was so hot. He is not biting his fingers as well.I think he is a little sensitive to light as well, he blinks a lot, and he does not want to read books, he just wants to watch TV, which is not typical for him, he loves me to read him. he wants to spend time outside. His eyes are watering, he asks me to wipe his tears and help him blow his nose

thank you for your response, I appreciate your help a lot.

Lexus last decade
Ok I would assume this is a remedy reaction, especially since there are other changes occurring. Unless absolutely necessary, do not interfere with the fever. Fever is used by a child's body to heal itself, and the remedies often do this.

Keep me informed I will be online for most of the day watching for your posts.

I know that fever can be very worrying for parents, and orthodox medicine fills them with fear over possible complications, but generally fever is a friend not an enemy.

Of course, don't let him get into danger. Keep him cool, and keep him hydrated.

Doctor, i wanted to update you about this case. My son went to sleep yesterday, he still had fever, but not as high as during the day. He was waking up very often, which we have not had since he turned 2 years old, he was coming out of the room and saying that he is scared. In the morning he had no fever, he enjoyed the bath, which he refused yesterday. He still does not feel like eating, he will eat 5 spoons and says he does not want any more and that his stomach hurts. He developed gases yesterday, not so much today. He is very cranky, he acts out and thinks it is a tragedy if his brother takes one toy, he starts yelling very loud.
