Our 17 year autistic son is going through a tough phase and the remedy grid suggested Tarentula Hispanica -but we are not sure what potency to buy and what dosage will work and for how many days.ajavm on 2011-10-10
This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please take three doses of Tarentula Hispanica 200 as follows and report back after 15 days (only 3 doses in 15 days).
day 1 morning
1st dose
day 1 evening
2nd dose
day 2 morning
3rd dose
One dose means
If the medicine is in pills form 2 pills. Don't touch pills with hand. Use cap of bottle to take pills.
If the medicine is in liquid dilution form, 2 drops in some 20 ml water. Sip up slowly.
Please follow homeo restrictions like no coffee, no raw onion/garlic, no strong perfumes, don't eat or drink anything within 30 minutes before or after taking medicine.

Thanks for the response. That was very helpful.
In the past my son has been very sensitive to higher potencies, like 200.Symptoms would flare up beyond control. Will a 6 or 30 work too? Also he has the habit of chewing up the pills immediately-so a drops will be a better option.
Please advise.

Yes, you may start at a lower potency. Please provide all symptoms of your child in details, also the remedies given to him, how the remedies affected him etc.
Many people visit this forum for autism if people provide all details it may also help others.

WE tried remedies for my son about 3 years back. So right now I do not remember each remedy.A brief view of his profile-He has the usual issues, related to autism-speech is minimal,used mainly when he wants something.He was always hyper with loud vocals,but happy.His sense of hearing and vision seemed hyper. Turned 11,12 started getting angry and gradually aggressive,hitting or pushing us and throwing things and self injurious-mainly head banging on the floor or wall occasionally biting himself. He has many characteristics of OCD. We went to a classical homeopath and tried several remedies and nothing really helped.Finally,when it became impossible for us to handle him and he was totally miserable we went for allopathic medications It took us 6 months to find one anti psychotic drug that helped him calm down and function.His OCD behaviors were there but redirectable. But it resulted in bad side effects such as high sugar,weight gain and breast growth. [This was the reason we did not take the allopathic route for all these years.] So now we are tapering the medication and certain problems like anger,self injury etc are coming back. He has mood swings and he seemed very depressed. The remedy grid suggested Tarentula Hispanica when I looked under Depression as the main symptom.
Well he is a mess right now and we are at our wits end trying to help him.He cannot express anything to let us know what is happening within.Otherwise he is intelligent,understands everything,loves music and can play any tune on the piano by ear. But he has attention span issues,impatient cannot focus for long.He gets very frustrated when he gets stuck in some of his compulsions. Since there so many interconnected complications I thought of dealing them as symptom of depression and see if it helps.
Please let me know any of your thoughts.

nux vomica antidotes ill effects of western medicines. It also works well for angry people. Please give him nux vomica 6 for three days and report back.

I will buy Nux Vom 6c today and give it to him.
But is it okay since he is still on the Allopathic medicines? Just tapering down to a lower dose itself has created a crisis.
Meanwhile I started him on SBL Tranquil homeopathic tabs 3 days back.

I am somewhat familiar with Homeopathic remedies.
Out of the remedies listed in Tranquil, Belladona and Kali Phos have helped to a certain extent.
Kali Phos helped him with sleep issues.This was when he was about 7-8 years old.
Belladona, given a few years back helped his impulsive anger for sometime.
Another remedy is Tub 1m which solved constipation problems.This was also given when he was about 7yrs old.Back then a homeopathic doctor had put him on a regimen- right now i do not remember all the remedies.
For the past 6 yrs my son suffers from seasonal allergies and manifests as severe cough.Till today we have not been able to pinpoint to a cause, He does not cooperate for blood work.There is no cold or chest congestion.He will cough all the time. If he catches a cold he will start wheezing sometimes.
This year the cough was extremely bad-it last for about 4 months and frustrated I looked up on this website. The suggested remedy was Rumex Crispus and I gave him 30 potency for a month and since then he has not coughed !! I hope that remedy will have a long lasting effect.
Bofore that I had to put him constantly on anti-histhamines

Phosphorus

Rumex worked well for his cough.
But if I have given any of the antidotes then Rumex effect is nullified? Please explain.

If a remedy has effected a cure, the cure can't be undone by taking it's antidote remedy.
Let us see how he responds to nux 6 in three days and then decide on the next remedy.

Now he has had Nux Vom 6c for 3 days-1 dose,2 to pills each day.
Behaviorally he is the same- hyper anxious,agitated-too tense transitioning from one activity to another, for example getting out of bed to the bathroom, or coming to eat. Eventually he gets upset with himself and does repetitive things like turning on the bathroom light several times[it is never right!]This is just one example-there are many such things during the day and finally he cannot function at all for a simple task even without us guiding him-which makes him anxious again-we get into this vicious circle with him.Surprisingly he controls himself very well when he is at school and probably lets it all out at home.
After the Nux Vom there is big tongue sore on the side of his tongue, which he constantly chews.
Tongue sores occur occasionally.Before it was frequent and about 4 years back one lasted for several months.I thought then it was a side effect of the steroids he was given due to some skin rash that lasted for about 3-4 months that discolored his skin and remains lightly till today after all these years.The rashes were on right side of his lower neck and around his right eye.
So all in all not much to report after Nux Vom.

He goes to a regular high school-included with typical peers for some subjects and certain activities.There is no academic expectation, though he is able to type notes.He has an aide all the time with him.
He does not give much eye contact and does not respond to anyone-so people can probably know that things are not normal.
Physical symptoms-i am not able to say correctly. He seems as if there is some physical discomfort-but he cannot tell where there is pain.
Mental symptoms-Mostly anxious,next minute he can be happy too.Angry, aggressive,hyper-moving all the time. He shouts a lot all the time at home.
When it comes to his needs he is very persistent,but indifferent otherwise.
He fears darkness.He likes sameness. The stores here do not have this remedy in stock-it has to be ordered and it will take 2-3 days.I have 30 and 200 potency at home of the Hyoscyamus.It is about 8-9 yrs old-will that do should I order the 6c potency?

Around the 4 -5th day we felt he was a pinch calmer, but nothing significant.
But 6th again he got sore on his tongue which made him very miserable and he kept chewing it making things worse.This we think has made him angry and small things trigger aggression-he bit my daughter today and tried hitting his head on the wall just because we changed the TV channel.Generally he seemed tired and on the edge today.
Is the tongue sore an indication of his digestion? Or is it something else?
He cannot tell me if he has heartburn or acidity. He does tend to gag if he does not like certain foods, but does not vomit.His bowel movements seem normal-mostly once a day, sometimes twice.

Meanwhile we are concerned since he was coughing a bit today-very worried as he suffered for more than 4 months the last time cough was there. As i told earlier,Rumex Crispus 30 for a month seemed to help and he was cough free for 2 months after that.There is a lot of weather change now and the seasonal allergies always bother him during this time of the year and again more in April.

Please see whether Hyoscyamus works for his cough if he coughs more. If that doesn't work you may use rumex.
There is no need to give carbo veg if he has good relief in tongue sore.
It is better to give any remedy on indications and it is better to avoid giving a remedy for a week or a month without reviewing it's indications.

With my son, I have to guess if things are bad or better.He is not able to express anything. So I gave him Carbo Veg hoping it will help since the tongue sore keeps coming-the last one just 2 weeks back.
Now If the cough comes back should I give him Hyos again? or 3 doses I gave last week will work?
