Arnica Vs. Aconite in shock after injury

Arnica: Patient says 'I am fine. I don't need a doctor.' even when it is obvious for others that he need immediate help.

Aconite: Shock brings on intense fear, anxiety and cries for help.

The ability to differentiate between the remedies which are generally indicated for a set of conditions is the key for the success of the homeopath.

Travel sickness

The best way to prevent motion sickness is to take Cocculus half an hour before the journey, and take either cocculus, tabacum or petroleum during the journey depending on the symptoms.

Tabacum relieves those people who feel better if they sit in the car by closing their eyes. For these people, sitting at a car window and watching the scenery as the car goes along produces a severe nausea.

Petroleum helps those who feel the sickness more in their stomach.

If there is nausea with faintness and occasional vomiting cocculus is the remedy.

If the vomiting occurs whenever there is a bumpy ride, tabacum is the remedy. It has the vomiting on least motion.

Petroleum has the least vomiting among the three, and it has marked reeling sensation.

The above was one of my earlier posts. I would like to add pulsatilla to the above medicines.

Pulsatilla: When the only relief is to have the window down (fresh air).

Back pain lumbar region radiating to areas around abdomen (to the front)

Berberis Vulgaris is the one and only medicine in Kent's repertory. It is grade 3.

I often find that if Kent's repertory has one and only medicine of grade 3 for a particular condition, it will help in majority of the cases.

I have personally verified the efficacy of Berberis for the above condition.

Crops of itchy and painful blisters on fingers of hand and feet. (This condition is known as dyshidrotic eczema (Pompholyx)

The patient complained that the itching and pain increases on touch. Also there is a sensation of burning on touch.

Cantharis gave immediate relief. Required about six doses to resolve the problem completely in about two days.

Phytolacca

Shooting pain in right shoulder, with stiffness and inability to raise arm .

Rheumatism pains; worse in morning. Pains fly like electric shocks, shooting, lancinating, shifting rapidly.

Pain in under side of thighs.

Aching of heels; relieved by elevating feet. Pains like shocks. Pain in legs, patient dreads to get up. Feet puffed; pain in ankles and feet. Neuralgia in toes.

Sudden onset of cough in children

I find boenninghausen's famous croup powders abort the cough quickly. The cough need not be croup. You can use them for any type of cough. If you start the therapy the moment cough is noticed, the quicker is the relief.

If the cough is due to exposure to dry chilly weather start with aconite. Repeat aconite after two hours.

If cough persists switch to Hepar sulph. Again two doses, two hours apart.

Wait 24 hours. If cough is still there give a dose of spongia. If necessary repeat after 12 hours.

That should reduce the intensity as well as the frequency of cough. If the child is active despite the occasional cough, no more medicine. That will go away in a couple of days.

If the symptoms persist despite the above consult a competent homeopath.

Read Organon first. Google for it and buy the book. It is less than Rs.100.

Nitric acid

Excellent medicine for mouth ulcers. Take in 200 potency once you feel the pain that starts as tingling. It will abort the formation of full blown ulcer and will subside quickly. No more than three doses.

It never failed me.

BICO 11

Excellent remedy for mild fevers. No need to use Crocin/Brufen etc. Works best in water dose given frequently.

Patient will recover within two days. Suitable for children as well as adults.

Alumina

Itching of lower legs after going to bed. The itch without any eruption will be so severe that the patient scratches till blood streaks appear.

A single dose of alumina will make him comfortable and patient goes to sleep peacefully.

Works best for people who have other concomitant symptoms of alumina.

Acidity/gas problem

If you tried the usual remedies like nat.phos, China, carbo veg, but the problem persists try Arg.nitricum, if you find any concomitant symptoms in the patient.

Water dose taken frequently will work faster.

Ammonium muriaticum

Pain..heel..tearing..rubbing amel....Amm.mur

The only medicine in grade 2 ..Kent's repertory.

I personally verified this symptom.

Use Boenninghausen's method of location, sensation, modality and concomitants, if all other methods of repertisation lead you no where.

You will find the correct remedy more often than not.

Sulphuric acid

Sulphuric acid is also useful as a traumatic remedy. It may be used for bruises of soft parts after ARNICA; in bruises of glands after CONIUM; in injuries of bones after RUTA. Particularly may it be used when there are long-lasting black and blue spots, with soreness and stiffness.

Sulphuric acid might be useful in black and blue spots in the skin, as the result of bruising, and practice corroborates it, and it follows well after Arnica.

Nash

For lingering stiffness and pain after a fall, ligament damage due to accidental twisting of ankle, sulphuric acid is the best follower for Arnica and hastens the cure.

Urtica dioica

There are plant compounds from the stinging nettle extract that can help reduce and control the level of uric acid in the body and prevent gout. Stinging nettles may provide relief to people who have excess uric acid build up in their bodies. It was revealed in a research that the therapeutic benefits of the stinging nettle are derived from its anti-inflammatory action. Since it has anti-inflammatory effects, it can be used to soothe the swelling of the joints and the excruciating pain caused by gout.

I prescribed this to a gout patient who is having lot of pain with swelling of big toe. He used to have a flare up whenever he eats non veg and takes a drink. His Uric acid levels too were quite high.

His pain subsided within a week. Uric acid levels became normal. I gave in mother tincture 10 drops daily twice a day.

Now he carries 6c pellets with him and takes it whenever he parties. No gout symptoms.

It is better than urtica urens in bringing down Uric acid levels.

Colocynth

Abdomen pain..must bend double

I gave colocynth for severe pain with the above modality, after mag.phos and pulsatilla failed to relieve.

The relief was almost instantaneous. The patient recovered within 5 minutes.

Never hesitate to use a series of medicines in quick succession if you fail to relieve severe acute pain in reasonable time. The correct medicine will act fast. You must be aware of the probable remedies and willing to experiment.

Antimonium tartaricum

Remember this for lingering coughs after a cold. A loud rattling cough with an inability to expectorate mucus is characteristic of this medicine. If you tried the frequently indicated medicines and failed to relieve the patient, ant.tart may help.

Natrum muriaticum

Dermatitis cases where the eruptions appear on the margin of scalp or along hairline. The eruptions are dry with rawness of skin along the margin of scalp. Crusting may also occur along the the hairline.

For dry eruptions in bends aggravated by heat. The bends include elbows, knees, groin, and behind the ear.

Ars.iodide

Nose.--Thin, watery, irritating, excoriating discharge from anterior and posterior nares; sneezing. Hay-fever. Irritation and tingling of nose constant desire to sneeze (Pollanin). Chronic nasal catarrh; swollen nose; profuse, thick, yellow discharge; ulcers; membrane sore and excoriated. Aggravation by sneezing.

The most prominent aspect of this remedy is that the patient knows that he is going to get the sneezing attack soon. The problem starts with irritation and tingling in the nose.

All the above symptoms are verified by me. Ars.iodide given in gradually increasing potencies will lengthen the gap between attacks ,reduce the severity of symptoms and eventually make him free of allergic rhinitis.

Calendula

For small cuts and bruised scraped skin (ex :when children fall down on a rough surface and get dragged), there is no other better remedy.

Wash the affected area thoroughly with water and apply diluted calendula mother tincture. Add about 10 drops to half cup of water and apply it on the wound.

The scraped area will start crusting within a few hours, and there won't be any infection.

Never apply arnica externally on wounds, which ooze out blood. Calendula is to be used for external applications. Take arnica internally, if required, for bruised pains.

Never say Ars is a medicine for coryza. Say Ars is a medicine for coryza better in a warm room.All.cepa is for coryza worse in a warm room.Learn these differentiations. homeopathy will be most useful for most of our day to day problems, if we proceed this way.

I missed this query. You are right.If you are sure that the present symptoms are due to eating 'melon' you can definitely prescribe Ars. without hesitation.

'causation'helps you to narrow down your choice, and will help you to spot the remedy quickly.

The reason why certain medicines are considered specific to the 'causation' is because the ill effects produced by these causations match very cosely with the pathogenesis of the remedy.

The ill effects are the same for most of the individuals irrespective of their constitution, and hence same medicine works in almost all cases.

Ailments from sitting/sleeping on a cold floor : Nux.vomica

After effects of getting drenched in rain : Rhustox.
