11 mo. old with ear infection and high fever? My daughter is 11 mo. old (DOB 6/26/06)
She has had 'allergies' for about 4 weeks, nothing much just slight ocassionalrunny nose and itchy eyes and nose.
Went to the beach Thurs. evening she seemed fine. Beach was cold and windy and she got chilled. Drove 1.5 hours home and she had a fever of 102 when we got home but was in good spirits.
Fever went to 103.5 that night but by morning was back down to 102.4. She nursed all night long.
Friday morning she was tired, kept jolting awake, crying, irritable. Wanted to nurse and sleep all day. No periods of wakefullness or activity. Fever stayed around 102-103 all morning and afternoon. Gave Tylanol at 2:00PM brought fever down to 101.
Friday evening, fever the same but interacting with us, tried to play etc. Gave another dose of Tylanol. Restless sleep all night, still jolting awake, with periods of crying, fever spiked to 104.5. Gave more Tylanol at 3:00AM, didn't help fever, gave cool sponge bath and another dose of Tylanol at 6:00AM Fever down to 103.1. But started vomitting.
Took her to doctor Sat AM (vomited again in parking lot) she said the right ear looked fine but left ear was 'beefy red' prescribed higher dose of Tylanol for fever and Amoxicillan for 'ear infection'. Vomited again when we got home.
Gave her the large dose Tylanol at 11:30AM. Brought fever down to 100. Happier, but still sleepy only wanted to nurse, refused food. Fever continued to go down but runny nose started. Vomited again at 4:30PM. By 5:30 happy, playing, 'talking' and ate a little food. Fever stayed down. Seemed 'norma'l all evening. Runny nose stopped. Slept well all night, nursing.
Woke this AM irritable and with a fever of 103.4. Vomited again. We seem to be back to where we started.
I don't like giving Tylanol, I believe in the fevers power to help jumpstart the healing process, husband disagrees. I have not given the Amoxicillan. I don't like antibiotics. Husband wants me to start giving it. Would like to try something else. We are at a crossroad here, please help!
