Recurrent Cystitis
I am having difficulties with recurrent cystitis, about every three months at this point. It is making life pretty difficult and I am looking for alternatives to antibiotics and wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Patient ID: Sex: Female Age: 22 Nature of work: Mental Health Worker and graduate student Habits: Like to exercise
Describe your main suffering and from how long? Full blown UTIs about every three months, when they get bad there is blood in the urine, pain before during and very sharp cutting pain after. Difficult to sit patiently and become very irritable. I get very anxious now whenever I feel even slight symptoms.
Exact location of problem? Lower back aches, lots of pressure above pelvic bone, sharp pain at urethra when peeing.
Any cause which you feel for this ailment? It seems to correlate fairly well to around beginning an oral contraceptive and also seems to occur more frequently with use of lubricants (which doctors have suggested to help). I only get them after having sex, and do everything the doctors have advised to prevent this.
What other physical sufferings do you have in your body? I was in a car accident and had back pain for several years, this is finally diminishing.
What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings? I was sexually assaulted a few years ago and do not know if this can contribute. I get very anxious about UTI feelings.
When did it all start? I got my first one three years ago, low intensity and went away on its own. Two years ago had to go to the doctor for one and they have increased in frequency since then.
What are the things which aggravate or ameliorate your suffering? I have taken D-Mannose and that seems to alleviate suffering, heating pads alleviate slightly. D-Mannose has helped to keep some from escalating but not all.
When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather? During hot weather.
What do you crave for in food items and what are your aversions? I havnt really craved anything, for awhile I had a hard time taking D-Mannose which is almost flavorless but slightly sweet but still caused taste sensitivity.

I have been reading that ecoli can live dormant in the bladder biofilms and cause recurrent infections. Is there anything that can be done to flush these out? Without use of antibiotics will they eventually naturally flush themselves out? If so is there any informatio on how long this usually takes before infections decrease in frequency?
