Dr. Sameer, help please - slip disc

Dr. Sameer,

I am a 36 yr. old male suffering from chronic neck/ back pain since 2000. X-ray revealed no bony change then. Strangely, the pain used to aggravate after neck/back exercises. Used to feel better while in rest, though a base level of soreness in neck/back was always there. I didnot do much exercise for it.
I used to be very hard working, emotional, intense and headstrong type of a person and often worked beyond my physical abilities out of emotion/determination (I think that led to this condition of my health). Prior to the beginning of these problems, I had disturbed sleep for 3-4 years (1996-2000, had to do night-shift duties 2 days a week then) leading to general degradation of my health.
A few months back I lifted a heavy object and eversince my right shoulder and hand has become very stiff, painful, cannot change sides while lying. so much so that I cannot sleep properly at night. Pain in the base of skull, sometime aching, sometime burning pain in the back (both shoulders, right being most affected now). The pain aggravates in cold weather. I have become irritable now.
A recent visit to the doctor revealed a slip disc and an MRI was ordered (not done yet).
Please help me get out of this hell of a pain and regain my vitality.
I shall be happy to post more details if required.
Thanking you,
tamanglama.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please talk more about your fears/anxieties , general behavior, level of attachment with family, and your food cravings/aversions if any.

Also, talk about what your general thought process is when you are suffering with this pain.

Dr. Sameer,
Thank you for the reply. I am trying to explain things as best as I can:
Fears/anxieties - Very apprehensive about what people are talking about me in my absence. believer in conspiracy theories, cannot tolerate cheating (whatever benign it is)-often treat them cruelly whoever make such an attempt,
constant fear of losing someone dear. Anxious of someone near falling prey to accidents. fear of riots. cannot tolerate people giving less than 100% to a job.

General behavior - very caring, highly emotional (esp. when it comes to sacrifices for others/country etc), demand perfect discipline from others (who are close to me), tend to make things right with a few selected blunt expletives (whenever someone is at fault and is not listening to 2/3 warnings), avoid and abandon others completely who do not fall in my way of things, tend to believe people without verifying, talk to them torrentially on everything and then get hurt when these (personal) informations are leaked.
believer in strong ideals.
Like to do whatever think right (though I spend a lot weighing pros and cons by myself, before taking a decision). Very prone to helping others (often overstretching me and my family, thus increasing the tension, irritability when those benefited do not reciprocate as I would like to). Very straight-talking, Do not like showmanship, excessive niceties etc.

Level of attachment with family - intense.

Food cravings - Sweets, delicious cooked items (of late, salivation starts at the view and scent of delicious foods, embarassing me immensely).
Aversions - oily, junk and packaged food, sour items.

Also, talk about what your general thought process is when you are suffering with this pain.
The pain is always there. I try to live with it. I think that there is no end to my pain, I shall have to carry it to my grave. Thinking about the consequences I become more depressed, irritated and easily offendable. Also all my ambitions have been crushed (was very ambitious earlier).
When the pain aggravates to an extent that it affects my daily life, sleep etc. all these sufferings become manifold, I think of desperately seeking help from every quarter. After a few days of rest and restricted living, it settles to a working level gradually and I revert back to my routine.

Adding something to the nature of my pain: nerves from hands, base of the skull, back shoulders stretched inwards (as if knotted) near the neck (4th or 5th spinal disc), feels good when standing straight, someone forcefully lowers my shoulders. Have to change the position of hands, neck and back continuously. Suffer from numbness of hands at night when the pain aggravates.
Thanking you once again and waiting for your reply,
With regards,
tamanglama.

Again, I forgot to mention:
Before the onset of this pain, I used to smoke for ~10 years (moderate to heavily, from 1993-2004). Now I take tea only (4-5 cups a day).

Please also talk about your temperature preferences and any other odd mental/emotional feelings that you might have.

How do you feel when you fear tight clothing ?

How do you feel about high neck clothes ?

Any other symptoms in the neck/throat area ?

Dr. Sameer,
I am very sorry for being late in replying.
Please also talk about your temperature preferences and any other odd mental/emotional feelings that you might have.
- I Like moderately cold weather in general. But really love the rainy season and especially when it rains.
- I think I love handling too much pressure. Amazing ability to react fast in emergency situations.

How do you feel when you fear tight clothing ?
I have never worn tight clothes. Make them loose at first oppurtunity.
How do you feel about high neck clothes ?
I have never worn high neck clothes.
Any other symptoms in the neck/throat area ?
-Have chronic sinusitis. Tend to suck phlegms continuously into the throat which must be swallowed down (this increases in polluted environment like busy roads).
-Something appears to be moving inward in the inner throat whenever I lie down, must cough it up.
-have the nasty habit of picking nose.
-prefers to lie on back and on stomach with hands crossed above head.
with regards,
tamanglama.

Please take 3 doses of Lycopodium 30c equally spaced by 2 hour for one day only as below :

Dissolve 2 pellets or 2 drops of Lyc 30c in a 250 ml spring water bottle. You can shake it gently after they have dissolved.

Take a teaspoon from this bottle 3 times in one day, spaced by 2 hours. This is to be done for one day ONLY.

Let me know in 10 days after these 3 doses.

Restrictions:

1/. Nothing should enter the mouth for 40 minutes prior to, or after taking the remedy.
2/. Do not touch the tablets with your hands, tip them into the cap of the container they came in and then into the water .
3/. Avoid coffee, tea (including green), and other sources of caffeine such as some fizzy drinks and large amounts of chocolate, except where this would cause a drastic change in consumption
4/. Avoid wearing perfume/aftershave, or exposure to anything with a strong smell while under treatment. This includes any and all essential oils, and incense.
5/. Avoid the consumption of excessively spicey foods
6/. The use of medicinal herbs, either as 'teas' or supplements should be avoided during Homoeopathic treatment, as should the use of over the counter medication, unless this has been recommended by an MD.
7/. Nothing of a medicinal nature should be applied to the skin

Dear Dr. Sameer,
I had taken the lyco 30c 10 days back. The Effects:
1. Intense pain in the jaw-joints, just below the ears, for one day. Then it got back to normal automatically.
2. After quite a long time I am having deep sleep now!
3. The back pain improved to a little extent, but pain in the right shoulder is as it was. The pain is more while lowering arms from horizontally stretched condition.
4. The pain increases in the night (when temperature falls), and beginning to disturb my sleep again.
I express my sincere thanks and gratitude for the relief you have given me through this forum.
Please ask for any more necessary information and tell me if I would get more relief with the passage of time or need to try something new.
With regards
tamanglama

Dear Dr. Sameer,
The back/ neck and shoulder pain has not improved since my last post. But my sleep profile has changed for the good and I have got huge relief/comfort in this count.
I am extremely thankful to you for that.
Please advise me now,
regards,
tamanglama

It will improve, but right now, we must wait. The first response to the right remedy is a state of mental well being.

Please procure Lycopodium 200c, and keep it handy, but do not take it till I tell you to.

Update me in 1 week.

Dear Dr. Sameer,
It has been a long time since my last report. My updates are almost same. I have got mental calmness and sleeping quite well. The right hand improved after doing some rotation exercises. But the back/ neck and shoulder pain is still there, almost unchanged in intensity and pattern. Recently I had to carry a side bag weighing less than 2 Kg for a few days that led to aggravation of pain. The pain is as if residing in a region 3'x3' centred around the spine, radiating to both shoulders and then arms in time of aggravation. Also it feels good when someone lowers my shoulders forcibly (as if they remain in squeezed and tensed state, forever), also when someone massages those muscles.
Please have an advise for me.
With regards,
tamanglama.

It is time for a 200c dose.

Please dissolve 2 drops in 120 ml spring water, and take a teaspoon from here ONCE. Nothing should enter the mouth for 40 minutes prior to, or after taking the remedy.

Report in 2 weeks.

Dr. Sameer,
I took the medicine on 07.04.09. Suddenly mild temperature ran for two days with huge aggravation in all types of pains, occasional feeling of burning under right foot. Then everything was gone in next two days. The pains vanished. I felt so relieved. But yesterday some of the back/neck pains returned, though not in the old scale.
Please have an advice for me again. this time again I had to lift something heavy, might be that is the reason for recent aggravation-please advice.
Thanking you for your time and care and everything that gave me relief thus far,
with regards,
tamanglama.

Please avoid lifting for the next couple of months if possible.

Okay, so now, let us wait for 3-4 more days to see if this is a temporary blip in the progress or a relapse.

Update me on Monday.

Dear Dr. Sameer,
I waited one more day to get a clearer picture.
The pain is certainly returning. Though at present I am much more comfortable than I was before taking lyco200. It is aggravating in exertion, though a base level is also present while I am at rest. This base level pain is also pretty much tolerable now (than I was before taking lyco200), still I must say it is there.
I am sleeping quite well now.
I am feeling better mentally too (than I was before taking lyco200).
Please have an advice for me again.
Thanking you from the core of my heart,
tamanglama.

I would still advise waiting for little longer as I think the action is ongoing.

Please update me on Saturday.

Dr Sameer,
I was keeping quite well until a few days back, sudden acute pain in my right toe (leading to the little finger) appeared. It disappeared too within a day without any further bothering.
Yesterday it reappeared again and the right shoulder pain resurfaced. Now right arm movement has become restricted. Also for the last three days i am awaking from sleep at 3.00 AM.
Please have an advice for me.
Thanking you,
with regards
tamanglama.

Dr Sameer,
Please excuse me for late reporting.
I took lycopodium 1M about one month back. Now I am almost relieved of the pain, though a little soreness is there. Other cnditions have also improved.
I shall be reporting new developments from time to time.
Thank you very much for the excellent prescription,
with regards

The way Sameer selected Lycopodium here was truly exceptional. Any other homeopath would have gone in for some other remedy after studying mind/body symptoms.
Excellent!
