When you say improvement "peters out" do you mean if the skin goes better or worse to then go back on the remedy ?.

So long as the skin is either better or not worse - do nothing.
When things start to go backwards then return to the remedy for a limited period.

Possibly increasing the potency by some degree.

If Graphites aused the flare up, then Graphites is the medicine for you.

Just change the potency, i.e. move to Graphites 200 and use less frequently.

The Excema will go away after some treatment.

2 weeks now and the skin is alot calmer than 2 weeks ago.

Although still oozing a fair bit a night. (This last month has not been the best of sleep).

Wondering if the skin in the event the skin oozes alot should i stop the remedy until it calms down ? (am using petroleum 6c)

Leave it off for a week and see if that causes an improvement --- or otherwise . But give it time!.

Does anyone know exactly how petroleum works to releive the symptoms of ezcema? I read in one of the post that it " triggers the body to do what it's supposed to". What does that mean? Help?

There are some advantages for the skin by using Petroleum and also some dis-advantages..Right decision in the sense of cosmetics will give you better skin..
