Hello, I am also a person whose has been suffering from HS for a while. I decided to register in this site to share my experience with the rest of the people here with the hope my comments can help someone. I discovered this by chance trying to get rid of my dandruff on my head. I bought a out-of-the-counter medicine called Nizoral and when treating my hair I decided to put some Nizoral in my armpit (which was decorated by two of them), washed and left it there for some minutes. Then I cleansed and completed my shower. Next day the boils were 50% smaller and then they went away three days after. I did not attribute the relief to the Nizoral at that time. After a while during another outbreak of the HS, while showering I saw the Nizoral in my bathroom and decided to apply it again, just to see what happen. To my surprise next morning it was 50% better and gone in the next three days. bottomline, I don't believe Nizoral is a cure to HS but somehow it helps expediting the healing process in an accelerated manner. I hope my notes can help hundreds of desperate people out there. Please post your comments if you try it.

Hi thanks for posting your findings. Upon reading this I tried on my son and this is the second week of trying Nizorol daily two times in the shower. Appratently there is no visible changes and condition is still the same.
Did you also try some other creams or diet alongside?
Thanks

Hi Darayus,
I saw your post and tried that shampoo on my son. Its been two week and twice daily. There is no visible change and wondering if you combined any diet or other cream etc alongside.
Thanks

I am going to try to write this as concise as possible. I have leeched information off of HS forums for the last two years and now I would like to tell my story and the process that has helped me see about a 95% recovery. More than likely we will always have HS but I am writing today to express how I manage my HS. First, following a regimen like mine is not an overnight process to see results, this is a commitment and there were times I lost my way because of the absence of results. However, with commitment I have seen a dramatic reduction of breakouts. This took me two years. Everyones HS responds differently so it is a long journey where you must find out about your body.
I got my first boil when I was 18. I was overweight and smoked. I spent the next few years getting a boil once or twice a year. I would get tiny cysts and a few black heads on my thigh and groin area. I went to study abroad and gained a lot of weight. When I returned the following year I weighed 300 pounds and started getting serious breakouts on my thighs and groin. I went to see a Dr. who diagnosed me with HS. I spent the next two years on and off various antibiotics that did nothing for the HS. I was really frustrated. I began getting boils under my left arm and on the bottom and sides of my breasts. There was so much pain made worse by a fear that soon I would be covered in these things and scarred. My Dr. began giving me opiates but they only seemed to make the breakouts worse but the pain was so great I continued taking them. I became really frightened as was scared into action. After reading some of the forums over HS I decided I needed to lose weight. Over the next year I got down to 190.
TO lose this weight I stopped eating sugar. I brought my daily intake of carbs down to 30-40 a day. I saw good results in regards to my breakouts. I wasnt getting 3 or 4 at a time anymore, but I was suffering through a boil daily that would stick around for a month or two or three. I still had cysts and blackheads and periodically I would get a resurgence of the boil under my left arm. AT this point I was still eating High Fructose Corn Syrup and sugar-free items such as candy, pudding, and Splenda. I went back to the HS forums and leeched some more.
In November of 2010 I decided I had to go further and I began what I do to this day. I began working out. First of all let me say that during the beginning this was terribly painful and uncomfortable. I got boils on the inside of my right thigh right next to the crevice where my groin begins. My underwear rubs there and my leg moves and irritates it. It was awful. However, exercise is important because the respiration helps to detoxify your body and move all the toxins out of the blood. Sweating releases these and it helps clean the skin. I powered through the pain, and there was a lot of it, but I kept doing it. In the beginning I would be on the tred in the gym and I would start crying. People would come up to me and ask if I was okay, eventually everyone got use to me being the girl who cried when she worked out. It was embarrassing but whatever. This has been my regimen for the last year:
Every day I take
*2 Trader Joes Calcium, Magnesium, & Zinc vit which equals to 1000mg of Calcium, 500mg of Magnesium, and 15mg of Zinc
*A full dosage of Spirulina
*500-1000mg of Turmeric
*2000mg of Vit C
*1000mg of MSM
*One A Day multi-vit (active metabolism)
I work out in the morning, before I do I put Tea Tree Oil on my thighs and groin area.
I work out 5 days a week. I stretch for 15-20 minutes BEFORE & AFTER. I do 3 days of intense cardio for 60 minutes where I keep my heart rate above 151 for at least 30 minutes. 2 days a week I do cardio for 40 minutes slowly working my heart rate above 151 and keep it there for 20-15 minutes at which point I move to weight training. Muscle burns fat and helps tone the body. I do a series of circuit training targeting all areas of my body and I do this until I am done regardless of how long it takes me. During my work out I drink a full 64 oz. of water.
During the day I drink 2-3 teas. I trade off and on in regards to what variety. A staple is a skin detox tea by Yogi:
Yogi Skin Detox, 1-2 bags 5 days a week at minimum. (Why? Red Clover is in this tea)
Pau DArco, 1 bag, 5 days a week. This is awful tasting but it is worth it.
Echinacea Tea, at least 3 days a week.
Yogi DeTox 1 bag, 3 days a week.
Yogi Refreshing Mint ReVitalize, 1 bag, 1-2 times a week in the morning before my workout.
I do an Epsom salt bath at least once a week for the magnesium and to soak my muscles on the last day of my weekly workout.
I use Lever 2000 soap
Let me preface my diet description with this: I refuse to eat GMOs or HFC not because I am an activist or an organic nut but because I have HS and it is completely debilitating and being free of HS symptoms is that important to me.
The way I eat now
No sugar, no sugar-free crap either. I only use stevia.
I dont consume any GMO food.
I dont eat any processed food.
I eat a lot of fish, only wild caught to prevent buying fish that has been farm raised on a diet of GMO grain.
I buy organic eggs.
I eat organic raw almonds.
All my sauces, salad dressings etc are made at home or bought organic with no sugar used.
I cant afford a lot of organic meat because it is expensive but I usually get organic chicken or grass fed beef once or twice a week.
I find myself eating a lot of tuna.
AT LEAST 51% of my meals are raw every day.
If I want something sweet I eat a granny smith or Fuji apple.
I still drink coffee everyday.
When there is a special occasion, I enjoy life and indulge. I live a very strict life now concerning what I put into my body but you have to allow yourself some freedom and participation when there is a family get together or some other type of occasion. It is not cheating, it is simply life. I allow myself 15% of the year to consume food which normally doesnt fit in to my lifestyle now.
I meditate now, I do this so I can spend 15 or 20 minutes focusing on my breathing and rehashing my day, dealing with anything that bothered me and giving myself credit for whatever good I did in the day. My HS responds strongly to stress and this helps me. My HS also responds to my menstrual cycle, I assume because of my hormones, so I am extra careful in what I allow to affect my mood and how I care for myself leading up to my period.
This is what I do and have done for the last year. I will admit that it sucks hardcore and other people may not feel this type of life is worth it. I understand. For me, it is. I am still scarred from the past breakouts but I havent had a breakout in over 7 months, which is the longest I have gone for years. The one under my arms is gone; the ones I use to get on the underside of my breast are gone. My thighs and groin area are healed. I still have a few blackheads and a cyst here and there but no huge boils. It is awesome. For me, it is worth it. On the plus side, my skin looks awesome, my hair is healthy, I have loads of energy and I just feel good about myself. I havent gotten sick this past year at all. The whites of my eyes are clear and white; my nails are stronger than they have ever been. My body is thoroughly toned, too. I dont really know what else to say. This is what has helped me.
I took something from everyone I read on these forums and just decided to do it all. You cant expect to see results immediately, you have to choose what you are willing to do and stay committed. I didnt start seeing results for a good two months and even then it was slow. Once your body starts to get straight things start happening faster. I hope this helps someone. Your friends and family may think you have gone crazy but anyone else with HS will understand the great lengths you are willing to go to get to a point where you are symptom-less. We may always have HS but we dont have to suffer. Everyday we choose not to act is a day we choose to be a victim.
One caution. I know there is a lot of pain with HS and many of you, as I once did, will resort to opiates. They made my HS worse and caused breakouts. All of our HS responds differently but for me I had to stop them because they were causing me to break out worse. It sucks because you have to work through that pain but you gotta keep walking and keep moving.

HS, what a freaking cruel disease. No treatments.. stumped doctors, ugh.
I've kind of given up on finding a perfect cure, but I drink a lot of Yogi joint comfort tea (it has turmeric in it) and Yogi skin detox tea.
Currently trying to quit smoking and get an fitness routine going - so we shall see.

I have HS, seems I been dealing with this since I was about 25, I'm 56 now. I have had the surgery to remove it from my armpits, and the ONLY thing that's ever given me relief for a time were STEROID INJECTIONS my dermatologist gave me. She had me see her every 2 weeks for about 6 visits. I'm battling with it again but now I don't have MD Ins. I'm trying some of the natural treatments. But for those of you who do have ins. those shots, directly into the lessions really work!!

Hello, I will begin my post by admitting that I have NOT yet read all the replies yet. I just wanted to add that I have been suffering this condition since puberty (8-10 years) and only YESTERDAY did I finally find a name for what I'm suffering. I've been doing a lot of searching again now that I have found a name for the condition which actually matches what I have, which is what led me here. I have found several blogs of people who have stated that dietary changes have been the biggest help for them in preventing lesions. I have long believed that many people are intolerant to certain foods. I know myself I am certainly intolerant to dairy foods and I suspect other foods as well. Now, perhaps there is a treatment to allow my food to properly digest foods, perhaps not. That is something I have been wanting to look into lately. If not, I intend to focus sharply on my intake and systematically remove specific foods from my diet for periods of time and then reintroduce them, paying strict attention to my abdominal symptoms as well as my lesions in response to my eating habits. I wanted to share this with you, even though your post is several years old because I know that many people go years without finding any means of treatment. I hope anyone out there who is suffering with this condition is able to find relief. Good health to you all.

Yes, I was prescribed that same combination of medications and it only works tentatively. No real fix.
Sorry.

I was diagnosed with hidradenitis suppurative about 15 years ago. This disease came on suddenly and I had boils in my groin, under my armpits, on my buttocks, and various other areas. The boils were very large and left sizeable scars. I went to see a classical homeopathic doctor who prescribed 200c of elaps corallinus, and within 10 days I was completely cured. This has never returned. I would highly suggest seeing a classical homeopathic for this condition.
