The ABC Homeopathy Forum

help with baby's sleep needed please!

I have an adorable little one year old daughter who just won't sleep. She quite happily goes off to sleep but no two nights are ever the same. Last night she slept from 7.30 to 4 am and that was it...it was the first time in months that she slept so long in one stretch. Night before every 3 and a quarter hours she woke up but generally she wakes every few hours because of wind. She is a very windy child, her stomach gurgles and rumbles and can look distended. Its usually less burping and more breaking wind.

At the minute she is cutting another tooth on the bottom. She has had quite a few colds recently, streaming clear from her nose. She was exclusively breast fed, she is being gradually weaned. She's now down to just one feed before morning nap. She us going through a spell of separation anxiety, she's very much a mummy's girl and is a little whiny at the moment but she's generally a happy smiley little soul.

She's a stubborn little character and in an environment she doesn't know she watches and assesses before she starts to relax and be herself even with her aunt and cousin. Her naps are also all over the place...yesterday 50 minutes, day before 2.5 hours! She only takes one nap a day and if I didn't nurse her to sleep I don't think she would even have that one nap. She isn't starting to walk yet she was a little slow crawling ...in my opinion anyway, about 11 months. She loves activity and is very wriggly and fidgety. She loves to jump. She does like books though, she can concentrate well. And she likes motion to get her to sleep, rocked, bounced a bit or jiggled as we call it. She sleeps on her tummy, usually a little more in her right side but it can change. I know when she's having a windy patch as she sticks her bottom in the air and likes firm patting on lower back and bottom to relieve it. She will not ever just lie down and sleep. She needs her back rubbed and to know I'm there to go to sleep and it isn't quick. I don't want to sleep train her and let her cry it out because I personally do not agree with it.

She sucks her fingers...index on right hand or thumb when she wants to sooth herself and she can do that in the night too if she wakes a bit. I just find it frustrating as she can sleep and she can sooth herself but she doesn't. She has a bedtime routine and she loves her bath and water in general. My husband is here some nights for bed if work is quieter but there isn't any guarantee he is in for bedtime. Yesterday she had one hot red cheek and I gave her chamomilla 30c. It did calm her down. Should I repeat it?

Sorry I know this is a lot of info but I know it helps remedy choice. Any help would be greatly appreciated....finding the lack of sleep hard to deal with at the moment. I also have a 16yr old on the autistic spectrum who is going through a bad time and I guess I'm a little drained emotionally.
Thanks for reading.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
It is very likely that your baby suffers from Gastric Reflux aka GERD (Gastro Esophagal Reflux Disease) and this may be the cause of her not sleeping deeply as a 1 year old should.

The remedy that has proved to be very effective for Baby GERD is:

Nat Phos 6x dose half tablet dissolved in milk given immediately after a feed. If you discover that baby does not respond to the half tablet you can increase the dosage to a full tablet given after every feed but not to exceed 5 tablets in 24 hours.

You may like to know that I have prescribed Nat Phos 6x Biochemic Cell Salt to many babies, perhaps hundreds of babies with about 99% success.

Hi,
Thank you for your response, it's really appreciated. I have the nat phos in little round pills but not tablets...is that ok? Do I just use one of those? She won't drink milk though, she has v diluted organic fruit juice to drink. She won't drink plain water, she just spits it out. If I put the remedy in juice doesn't it destroy the remedy?

You must order the Biochemic Cell Salt of Nat Phos 6x which is only manufactured in tablets.

You have the Homeopathic product in little pellets which do not help as it works in other ways.

You can dissolve the tablet in milk or water or even in fruit juice as long as she takes it.

Finally got the tissue salts so hopefully her sleep will improve. It also says diarrhoea on the bottle but if anything she's a little constipated despite a healthy diet and lots of water. Thank you for your help.

One of the characteristics of Nat Phos 6x is that it also serves to make the stools soft.

In your baby's case since she is constipated you can expect positive results in under 6 hours.

It has helped somewhat with constipation but last night was the worst night for ages. I was up almost 2 hours rubbing her back and patting her bottom to wind her. Her stomach was making the most awful gurgling noises. She was very flatulent. Finally she broke wind one last time and slept for almost 6 hours. Is it a case if getting worse before it gets better?

Hi,
I have to say this remedy really has not helped. I am still up in the night for 90 minutes plus twice a night. She slept for a stretch of 5 hours yesterday but I think that is because I gave her warm water before bed. It is still trapped wind that is the problem. I have ordered another tissue salt..think it is nat sulph but it is the one helios recommended for flatulence. Any other help would be appreciated. She jumps very easily from sudden noises esp when falling asleep.
Thanks
Anna
