Baby Sleep Issues

I have a 10 month old baby boy that will not sleep for more than 2 hours at a time. Day or night.

He is a very happy baby. Always smiling and laughing. Loves to be talked to. Likes strangers as long as they don't pick him up. Breastfed.

When he wakes at night he seems to want more to be pacified at the breast instead of actually being fed. But he wakes 4 to 5 times a night. If I leave him to cry he just gets madder and madder. Then when I do get him to feed him he is really awake and takes an hour to get back to sleep.

Thank you for any help you can give with this issue.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I am sure the pediatrician would have told you the same that I am writing here that babies develop their sleep patterns by age two, before that some babies do sleep longer and some don't.

Having said that, we can try his constitutional remedy and see how it affects him.

Please answer these questions and I may be able to select a remedy. Answer in front of the questions leaving them in place:

1. Age, weight, height
2. Physical appearance of the child (features, complexion)
3. Milestones achieved and what age (teething, standing, walking)
4. Symptoms of the health problem
5. What makes the problem better
6. What makes the problem worse
7. How is the child behaving during this problem
8. How long the problem has been there
9. What is the reason of the problem in mother’s view
10. How is the stool & urine
11. How is the child’s sleep
12. What is the child afraid of
13. Where does the child sweat normally
14. Any problems with nose, throat, ears, chest
15. Describe the nature of the child (shy, headstrong etc. give details)
16. Is the child chilly or hot
17. Was it a planned pregnancy
18. How was the pregnancy of the mother (morning sickness, bleeding, happy, sad, tense etc)
19. How is the relationship of mother & father

2. Appearance - healthy, fair complexion, blue eyes, fat cheeks. Gerber baby - like. Very little hair.
3. Milestones: 1st tooth at 8 months. Crawling at 9 months. Mimicked sounds at 9 - 10 months.
4. Symptoms of the problem. Does not sleep more than 2 hours at a time.
5. Problem better when being held while sleeping.
6. Problem worse - nothing
7. Behavior during problem - wants to be held and nurse/pacified by nursing.
8. The problem has been there all his life.
9. In mother's view, the problem is that he has an insecurity. I don't know what from, but he wants to be with me. He goes to bed easily but when he wakes at night mother is the only person he wants.
10. Stools and voiding are normal.
11. Sleeps in the am 1 1/2 to 2 hours in the morning. Then a nap at 2:00 pm for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Then does not sleep again until 9:00 pm. Sleeps for 2 hours. Then up every 2 to 3 hours until morning.
12. Child afraid of ???
13. I've never seen the child sweat, but he has stinky feet most of the time.
14. Child has an extra lobe on the left side kidney. This was diagnosed by extensive radiological tests when he was 6 weeks old. I gave him the xray remedy when the tests were completed.
14. Nature of the child. Very happy. A momma's boy. Loves everyone. Likes to be held, but also independent.
15. Body temperature is always pretty normal. Warm. Not hot, not cold. At night when sleeping or supposed to be, feet tend to be a bit cold.
16. Planned pregnancy? Not really. Mother was surprised at his conception, and had a hard time accepting it for awhile/first 4 months. Then was fine with having another child. He is the 7th child. Now that he is here she LOVES him! Cannot imagine life without him.
17. Fine pregnancy. Not much morning sickness. This pregnancy was induced at 34 weeks. Mother's doctor was concerned about the sonograms showing the left kidney being swollen. I should mention mother had a lot of sonograms.
18. Relationship between mother and father. Good, cooperative. Very little arguments. The home is very happy and kind. Loving. The children get along very well and the parents very rarely raise their voices.
Sometimes there is stress but it does not last very long.

What was done during radiological tests, please give exhaustive details e.g. he was away from you for 30 minutes, with total strangers and he cried a lot during that time, couldn't even hear you.....

How was he after this testing when you got him

Has he been insecure after this testing or since birth

Did you feel any trauma of any sort during your pregnancy

What were your exact feelings on finding out conception e.g. tried to abort by jumping, stair climbing etc. etc.

Hello. Thank you.
The baby's birth was induced 6 weeks early and was horrific. The mother had a very hard time and it almost ended up being a cesarean.

The baby was circumcised.

One month after birth a sonogram of his kidney was done to determine if it was functioning. This took about 30 minutes and mother and father were both with him the whole time. Baby did not seem to mind too much.

A month later an extensive series of xrays were done. Baby had a catheter inserted and was then given radioactive isotopes in order to be able to watch his kidneys process and work. The xray test took over an hour. Mother and father were with him the whole time. Mother was able to feed the baby throughout the day without any interruptions. But not during the actual test. Baby was not too upset with these tests. The catheter having been inserted twice did make him pretty mad, but mother was able to clam him. She kept her face very close to his most of the day and talked to him a lot.
I would not say that if he is insecure it is more now than before these tests.
If he is not occupied and notices that his mother leaves the room, he will get upset and cry slightly and then follow in her direction. If she leaves the room and closes a door between them, he will cry like he is scared.
No trauma during pregnancy. Mother feared the delivery. Thought that it might kill her. Even well before labor, months before. 'I'm too old for this' type thoughts.
Mother had miscarriage 2 months before this pregnancy. The thought did cross her mind that maybe this one would miscarry too. Maybe even hoped for it. Never ever had thoughts of wanting to cause a miscarriage.

Why were the sonograms & x-rays done, any issue with urine.

Were you present during the circumcision too.

Any other thing not asked here which might be of importance?

During pregnancy a routine sonogram was done and showed that baby's left kidney was larger than the right. This was at about 22 weeks gestation. The kidney was monitored during pregnancy with about 7 to 10 more sonograms. It was determined that the baby should be born early at about 37 weeks because the doctors thought that the baby's kidney was so much larger than normal that it not be able to be saved if they waited longer.
Mother was not present for circumcision.
I cannot think of any other important factors other than the mother feeling fears of death during and after pregnancy. Never suicidal. Those fears have since ceased.

I believe the remedy is Calcarea Carbonica 200c.

Please give two doses 12 hrs apart. Just two doses. Not daily.

For small children:
One dose is made by dissolving one pill of the remedy in half a glass of cooled, boiled water. Stir it and take one tea spoon from it.

First dose: At night before sleeping.

Second dose: 12 hrs after the first dose.

Report back with changes observed.

DON’T TAKE ANY MORE DOSE OR ANY OTHER REMEDY UNLESS I TELL YOU.

FYI: US residents can get the remedies costing from $7.99 to $12.99 from various online sources, use Google search for it.

One remedy that always helps infants/children with sleep issue is, just ONE dose of Podophylum 30 in the evening. I repeat after a week or two, only if required. The result is prompt and lasting.

This deactivates the intestinal worms and microbes.

You can try this if your other remedy fails.

This type of use of homeopathic remedies is not as per principles of homeopathic prescribing.

Please read the MM for this remedy and you will think twice.

The MM (Boericke) says

'MIND
Loquacity and delirium from eating acid fruits.
Depression of spirits.'

For now, it maybe causing sleep but don't be surprised if the baby develops these symptoms of MIND mentioned above.

Reva,
Thank you very much for your advice, the more ideas I get to solve this issue the happier I am. But as 'fitness' mentioned, Podophylum doesn't fit baby at all. Please feel free to re think the sleep problems, I'm always willing to consider other avenues!

dear fitness, Your perspective on Homeopathy is not new to this forum or to the Homeopathic community. I respect your adherence to the principle you are taught.

I followed classical Homeopathy to the root during my first 10+ years, before I kept my mind open. I believe you will realize the need for specifics and its effectiveness at some point of your professional career.

My only request is to ... (you know)

Podophylum in 30c, a few doses is specific to deactivate worms by healthy means. Symptom matching is not the only way. I even use Electronic devices to find resonance of a Homoepathic remedy to a patient. I was skeptical with pendulum once, until I know the science behind it. German leading doctors widely uses advanced techniques and deliver tons to evidence. You may open up one day.

It is not my intention to distract you. Please continue your expert guidance to the patient.

Thanks Reva. I am sticking to the classical prescribing as it has not failed me even once, yet.

I am of the view that when & if I fail, it would be my incompetence and not the method of prescription.

I am sure you too have the best of patient at heart.

fitness,

I gave baby calc carb 6 days ago and then again 12 hours later. So far he is waking one time a night and no longer waking 3 or 4 times a night. His sleep during the day seems to also leave him more rested.

Thank you for your help. If he regresses, may I contact you again?
