ET or something else?
Hi,Im Veerle, female, 25 years old and I am a professional pianist.
Over the last year Ive been having problems with pain in the neck and shoulders and since March I started having tremor in my fingers and hands.
Ive been to several doctors, but apparently theres nothing wrong with me, so they diagnosed me as ET. Theyve tried putting me on inderal, but my blood pressure is too low for that. Xanax nor Rivotril seemed to help either.
Since the last couple of weeks I also have been feeling a strange sort of trembling over my whole body when Im in rest. (I was wondering if thats also a part of ET.)
I can also say hat when I start playing the piano or undertake any other action with my hands and fingers the tremor gets worse than when I just stretch out my fingers.
I was wondering if you could tell me if I really suffer from ET or might it be due to a a very stressy period in that case, how long can those symptoms last?
And if it is ET or anything else- what treatment would you recommend.
Thank you in Advance,
Veerle

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Are any emotions or fears involed -- IE the condition gets worse if anxious.
Is the condition worse at any particular time of day .
Is the trembling internal at any time.
Are you very particular about your surroundings and clothes.
Do you like to have your body warm and head cool when in bed.

It gets a bit worse when I'm nervous or upset. But caffeine and alcohol don't seem to have a big effect on it.
Usually it gets better by the end of the day. When I wake up, I have the feeling that my whole body is shaking by the sound of my alarm clock, even when in rest, still lying down. But disappears after a few minutes.
When I feel this 'internal trembling' that's usually when I take a few minutes to rest.IE when watsching TV in the coach, when lying in bed. But sometimes also when I'm sitting at the piano.
As far as my surroundings and clothes go, I'm not really sure what you mean. But don't think I pay too much attention to them.
Indeed I like to feel warm in bed, but always look up a 'colder spot' of my pillow to rest my head upon.

Hey Walkin, or anybody from the site,
could someone please suggest me what to do, 'cause tis condition is really interfering with my life and work (since I'm a piano player) and I'm running out of ideas...
I would really appreciate it.

Hello Veerle.
Can you first of all tell me what ET stands for, as I have neverheard of it!
Looking at the symptoms you have given however, it first occurs to me that this condition MAY be due to your very occupation itself, as obviously there is some repetitive strain from using the same muscles day in and day out, and of course it also involves maintaining the same position, which could be pressing on nerves. How long have you been engaged in this occupation?
If this IS the case, as it sounds as if it could be, then Arnica may help the condition, which covers the symptoms, and is one of the main remedies for such repetitive use of muscles.

Hello again,
Thank you for your response. ET stands for Essential Tremor. It's a condition normaly seen in older people but sometimes occurs in children and young adults. It's a harmless form of tremor usually affecting the hands and head. But once you have it it will never go away again... (probably only worsens).
As for as my profession is concerned, I've been playing the piano since I was 6 years old and I choose to make it my career when I was 18. I'm 25 now.
Please let me know what your opinion is.
Thanks again.

Hello again Veerle.
Can you tell us, do you have any other health problems? We prescribe remedies for the person as a whole, so everything has to be taken into account.
Re: 'But once you have it it will never go away again... ' This is said of many conditions as defined by allopathy, yet we go on to fully cure them nonetheless, and tremor isn't so difficult to treat, I have had many cases of various forms over the years.

I don't have any other 'real conditions'. I tend to have a low bloodpreassure, but lately that seems to be better. Other than that I'm tired easily and occasionaly I have headaches.
The only thing that's a real problem, besides the tremor, are stiff muscles in the neck and shoulders which really hurt from time to time.
Other than that, I can't think of any other health problems.

Okay, one last question then, was there anything which occurred immediately before this condition became apparent? An illness, accident, emotional upset etc etc

What took place before the tremor became apparent was as follows:
I had been going through a period of emotional and physical stress:
I had a lot of concerts to play during November till January and I also had a of pieces to study for April, May and June. And during that time the friend who I was living with moved out. So during that stressful time with al the playing I had to get done, I was left in an empty house and I had never really lived alone before. So it took quite some getting used to for several months. Quite frankly I think I was almost heading for a depression.
During this time, I started getting extreme neck pains and also a strange feeling as if some one was squeezing my throat. So I went to see a kinesist (? Dont know what its called in English, someone who rubs your muscles) and my doctor gave me some pills to prevent an inflammation. That didnt work, so I went to see chiropractor. After going once, there was no immediate response. The next week, I went again and the day after, I noticed that my fingers were trembling. I continued seeing that chiropractor, since everyone told me there couldnt be a link between those two. And besides the tremor, my neck pains began to ease. I havent been to that chiropractor since mid July, but nothing has changed since than. In fact the neck pains seem to be coming back
Now my life is much less stress like, but I still have al these symptoms. I did a detox during July and August, but that didnt seem to do much either.
I really hope you can think of anything that might help me.
Thanks already.

Thanks alfa2,
I've thought about that too. At first I thought stress was causing it, but now my life has calmed down a lot. I also can't think of a person or situation that is still bothering me, and even if that would be the questions, can thoses symptoms really last for that long?

Hmm, I am particularly interested in this: 'a strange feeling as if some one was squeezing my throat'
Tremor more often than not usually has it's basis in what we call the Syphilitic miasm in Homoeopathy, and this actually first occured to me when first reading your post. The symptom you give above is a good indication of one of our primary anti-syphilitics, and we may need to look into this further.
However, as the symptoms you are now experiencing are pretty localised, and it is not always a good idea to go poking around in a patients constitution unless this is waranted, AND the fact these symptoms first appeared as a result of a period of over-strain/exertion, I wam going to go with my first remedy choice of Arnica.
If this fails to relieve the complaint, I will then ask you some further questions about your past, and family history, and recommend a more deeply acting remedy based on your constitution, providing of course you are willing to do this.
So...Arnica 30c 5ml liquid potency (which can be ordered online from practically any reputable Homoeopathic Pharmacy), One dose of 2 drops in a small bottle of mineral water, one small sip as a dose. Alternatively, if you prefer (which I think is always much easier) Simply open the bottle, and take a short 'sniff' of the remedy, a method of application we call Olfaction.
The usual rules apply, i.e no coffee, perfumes, camphor, menthol, peppermint or other strong smelling or tasting substances, and nothing in the mouth (if taking orally) for 15 mins before or after the remedy is taken.
I'll look forward to hearing of the results :)
Best wishes.

Thank you, Jacob!
I went to the nearset pharmacy and bought Arnica (D6, it seems to be a bit less concentrated than the one you suggested, but apparently they don't make that one anymore over here...)
I'll keep you posted on the situation.
After how many days/weeks might I be seeing a result?
Thank you so much already!

Hello again Veerle, and you're very welcome.
Hmm, 6x (or D6) is a very low potency, but I guess it will at least give us some indication of whether or not this remedy will be of help to you.
Is the remedy a liquid potency at least?

Okay good, then do this. Open the bottle and take a short sniff of the remedy. Do this twice more, regularly spaced, on ONE DAY ONLY, holding the bottle in the fist of one hand, and banging it hard against the palm of the other 12 times before the second and third doses, then stop the remedy and wait for a reaction (if any).
Keep us informed :)

Hi Jacob,
So to make sure I'll be doing this right:
You want me to take some of the remedy through my nose and I have to do this by holding the bottle to my nose and banging my palm against it. This, 3 times a day, regularly spaced.
But the 12 times I don't really get... I should sniff 12 times each one of the 3 times a day? I'm sorry for making this complicated, but I better check before I do something wrong... ;-)

Oh no, no.
you dont take remedy thru ur nose. Just sniff once. first time no banging.
2nd time before sniffing, bang(12 times) the bottle to enable the remedy to become slightly dynamised and then take the sniff only once.
3rd, bang the bottle 12 times against ur palm and after that take sniff only once.

Hi V~ I too am a musician and have E.T. which matches your symptoms. Also, I go to a forum called We Move which has educated me more than 10 yrs of drs visits. A movement disorder specialist is the best bet.
Jacob~ A month ago a dr here suggessesd Stramonium 10X 2 drops a day for a month and check in again. Was I suppose to hit the bottle first?

Heh, no, we seem to have gone astray somewhere.
The remedy is taken by simply sniffing from the open bottle, you do not actually apply the liquid to the nose.
The sucussion(banging is actually done BEFORE you open the bottle to administer the dose, and before the second and third doses.
Does that make sense?
-Jacob.

Dear Angelica, well I certainly wouldn't recommend taking Stramonium daily for a month ESPECIALLY not in the same unchanged potency. It is a VERY strong remedy indeed, and is actually mostly used for symptoms of acute mania.
Even if this remedy fitted your case from a proper case taking (which in my opinion, it did not, as I have just read your thread, and it was prescribed only on ONE symptom), the dosage is WAY off. We only give a remedy once, or up to 3 times of ONE day only, and then observe the results. The method by which this remedy has been prescribed for you is not Homoeopathy by any stretch of the imagination, and in my personal opinion it should be stopped immediately. This though is of course up to you.

Oh Jacob, Gosh, I'm glad nothing drastic has happened as I have been blindly following directions and taking it 2 drops a day on an empty stomach for over a month now~
What would you think I should do now? The Stramonium did seem to help somewhat and people remarked that I am shaking much less, yet, my homeopathic friends all said what you have written to me here.

Dear Angelica, I did not read the entire thread, as I was just browsing at the time, and happened to come across your posts in the process, which was quite a coincidence as it was just before you posted here, heh. If there is more information I should know about within this thread, then please post the URL, or retype this here, either way, I would deffinately stop taking the Stramonium now.
