13 month old baby -constantly vomiting

My 13-month old grandson has been vomiting about 10 - 20 minutes after drinking, eating, nursing for 48 hours now. He has a fever - no diarrhea. He signs that he wants to eat, but is very particular - won't eat his favorite foods. Really just wants a cracker or nurse. Today he had some chicken broth and really wanted quite a bit. Then nursed - a lot. Then after about ten-15 minutes, the breast milk and soup came back up. It was probably about an hour after he ate the soup. Worried about dehydration. He already looks a little thinner. He is fair - blonde, blue eyes, lean not chubby. He is still smiling and laughing and singing; but that changes quickly to whimpering. He is very needy, wants to be held and walked around. Only wants his mother to hold him. She can't walk away from him for 30 seconds.

Any suggestions? Remedy?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please give him AETHUSA CYNAPIUM-30 (5 drops in a little water 3 times a day for 2/3 days and report.

Thank you Dr. Mahfooz.
major problem. We live in Honolulu, Hawaii - Aethusa Cynapium is not available except by mail which will take 4-7 days to get here. I don't have it in my kit.

Baby is getting worse. Vomited all night - yellowish - diaper is hardly wet. He isn't taking any water. He's lethargic. My daughter is taking him to the allopathic pediatrician this morning. Should I still order this remedy and give it to him no matter what the pediatrician prescribes? ANy other advice?

It looks to be milk allergy.

Avoid milk give other available substitutes. Wath for a day.

If he is not vomiting without milk then order for AETHUSA CYNAPIUM-30. This is very good medicine for Milk allergy.

Took baby to allopathic doctor. He has a fever - 99 to 100. He has lost a pound. He refuses to eat anything, wants to nurse constantly even though he was almost fully weaned until this started three days ago. I got him to take a few sips of water. It stayed down for 30 minutes. Then he threw it up again.
Why would he suddenly be allergic to his mother's milk that he has been drinking for 13 months? And why would he have a fever from a milk allergy?

This was a very healthy, happy energetic baby until Tuesday of this week.

He is showing no other syptoms. His lungs are clear, his lymph glands are normal, his eyes and ears and throat are normal.

Need to know how to stop the vomiting before he becomes so dehydrated that he ends up in the hospital.

Pl give the child Ipecauanha 30C (3 Pills 4 times a day) Report after 3 days.
Rajendra last decade
Could they try Ipecac to help ease vomiting if they have it in the remedy kit until they can get Aethusa Cynapium 30?

Yes, it is also a dependable remedy.

For a small child, please do not wait for homeopathic medicines to work .Take him to th paedetrician and give him anti vomiting drug lke domstal/perinorm.
After his vomittings stop, then take homeopathic medicines. Children dehydrate very fast. Give him lemon water/electral/hydrating liquids available .
The doctor will be able to guide you well.
Yor first priority is to stop his vomittings.
robina last decade
The reason we are asking for a homeopathic remedy is to stop the vomiting and NOT give drugs such as you mentioned which are extremely dangerous for a 13- month old.
The pediatrician said he has a stomach virus - the only solution is to keep him hydrated and to replenish his electrolytes. We already knew that. We have been trying to get fluids down him but he had been refusing anything except his mother's milk and some water. All were coming back up.

Started Ipecac 6X (that's the potency I had) alternating with Arsenicum Alb - one tablet after he vomits - started yesterday afternoon. He nursed most of the night, kept it all down until morning when he vomited again. He took some baby applesauce for the first time. This stayed down but he had diarrhea right after - good sign to me since he hadn't had any bowel movement in two days (no food, no liquids). Still has a fever. He seems to be holding water and mother's milk down longer today. We will see what tomorrow brings.
Marcia last decade
Fine, let us wait but ensure to give him diet in a little quanity.

Mahfoozurrehman last decade
Since for the past 5-6 days, from your post it seemed that the child is not able to retain anything, I got worried.
For his stomach infection give him Pulsatilla 30 along with Ipecac.
In case his loose motions increase, as they may since he has got fever too, then you can give aloe 30 along with above

and if the use of so many medicines together aggravate the problem, run to the nearest emergency.!!

If not you are lucky.

Dear Marcia

For any given condition, the most suitable single medicine has to be found and given.

If that fails to relieve, then further study is required, more data has to be collected, and another suitable medicine is to be selected.

In emergencies, these forums can't help. It may be too late by the time the prescriber sees your post and replies.

The tendency of giving two or three medicines together/ in alternation is widely prelavant, but that sort of prescription does more harm than good. This tendency is because of the failure of the prescribers to comeout with a single medicine, and they assume that either one of them will work, or all the three together will work.

This is allopathic thinking with homeopathic medicines.

It is better to depend on allopathy for emergencies than these prescriptions.

Don't you have access to a good homeopath, whom you can meet in person?

Ars. Alb. and Ipec. is a good combination.

For dehydration keep Nat. Muir 12X handy and if too many stools then give this, it will control water retention.
Rajendra last decade
They antidote each other.

What is the fun in alternating them?

Antidotes.- (Ipeca)

Arn., Ars., Cinch., Nux v., Tabac.

Ipecac Antidotes.- (Ipeca)

Alum, Ant. crud., Arn., Ars., Cinch., Cupr. (vapors), Dulc., Ferr., Op., Tabac.

This is from Boericke

Antidotes: Arsenic; China; Tabac.

As per Boericke Ars. is also a remedy that follows well after Ipec.

Pl. refer Materia Medica

I agree with the earlier prescripion as :

Patient is diagnosed of viral infection and it is well controlled by Ars. Alb.

Patient cannot wait for months and in the present situation both the remedies may have good results.

After stabilizing from Vomiting and viral effect some other remedy for a long term cure can be suggested.

Update on my grandson's condition.
After alternating Ipecac and Ars Alb for 24 hrs. and then on just Ipecac - he has ceased vomiting, is taking some food (applesauce, oatmeal, chicken soup with some noodles (no chicken) and will drink some water. However, he still wants to nurse constantly. (His mother is exhausted. Any help for her?) No more bowel movements after that first very loose one.
He is still running a temperature but low grade. He seems to be getting his energy back and is starting to act like the happy, smiley baby.
Did notice that the palms of his hands look orange in color. ??

Please give him the combination of following bio-salts, which will rehabilitate him and helpful in all the weakness:

1. Kali Phos-6x
2. Claceria Phos-6x
3. Ferrum Phos-6x

Buy these in powder form and mix it in a little water 2 grain each and give him after 3 hours for 2/3 days and report.

For his mother please give her Coculus Ind.30 one dose at night time.

This is Ars from Boericke

by William BOERICKE, M.D.

Arsenious Acid-Arsenic Trioxide

A profoundly acting remedy on every organ and tissue. Its clear-cut characteristic symptoms and correspondence to many severe types of disease make its homeopathic employment constant and certain. Its general symptoms often alone lead to its successful application. Among these the all-prevailing debility, exhaustion, and restlessness, with nightly aggravation, are most important. This is Ipecac from Boericke

by William BOERICKE, M.D.

The chief action is on the ramifications of the pneumogastric nerve, producing spasmodic irritation in chest and stomach. Morphia habit. The principal feature of Ipecacuanha is its persistent nausea and vomiting, which form the chief guiding symptoms. Hypodermically; or if by mouth, a 10 per cent jelly, about 4 oz, three times a day) Arsenic; Cham; Puls; Tart em; Squill. Convolvulus (colic and diarrhœa). Typha latifolia-Cat-tail flag (dysentery, diarrhœa) and summer complaint. Euphorbia hypericifolia--Garden Spurge--(Very similar to Ipecac. In Asthma, compare: Blatta orientalis.

Antidotes: Arsenic; China; Tabac.

Complementary: Cuprum; Arn.

Dose.--Third to 200th potency.

Ars is discussed two times here.

see the words compare..

Arsenic; Cham; Puls; Tart em; Squill. Convolvulus (colic and diarrhœa).

What it means is the physician has to study these medicines too closely along with ipecac for the indicated condition (colic and diarrhea) and chose the best one suited to the symptoms exhibited by the patient..He is indicated a group of medicines for further study.

Second reference is here.

Antidotes: Arsenic; China; Tabac.

Ars is one of the antidotes to ipecac.

The child is not yet cured totally. He has partial relief only.

A well indicated medicine would have cured his acute problem by now.

I feel the tendency to experiment with the available medicines on hand, since getting the indicated remedy is going to take time is not correct.

His need to nurse constantly, even after vomiting is not addressed either by Ars or Ipecac.

It is the charecteristic symptom of Aethusa.

The original suggestion by Dr.Mahfooz is good, and that alone will bring back this child to health quickly.

All these experiments with other medicines is not good for him.

If you are really interested in using homeopathy for kids, you must keep stock of the frequently indicated medicines.

Nausea is the sensation of having an urge to vomit. Vomiting is forcing the contents of the stomach up through the esophagus and out of the mouth.

Vomiting is a forceful action accomplished by a fierce, downward contraction of the diaphragm. At the same time, the abdominal muscles tighten suddenly against a relaxed upper stomach with an open sphincter. The contents of the stomach are propelled up and out.

An amazing variety of stimuli can trigger vomiting, from migraines to kidney stones. Sometimes, just seeing someone else vomit will start you vomiting, in your body's effort to protect you from possible exposure to the same danger.

Causes of vomiting:
Viral infections, Medications, Seasickness or motion sickness, Migraine headaches, Morning sickness during pregnancy, Food poisoning, Food allergies, Brain tumors,
Chemotherapy in cancer patients, Bulimia, Alcoholism

Homeopathic Medicines & Treatment for Vomiting

#Ipecac. [Ip]
The fact that small doses of Ipecac check vomiting is a homoeopathic legacy to allopathy. Ipecac has vomiting preceded by much nausea, a clean tongue and it is especially apt to occur after a meal. It is of doubtful value, however, in vomiting of cerebral origin. Ringers says: 'Few remedies are so efficacious in checking certain kinds of vomitings.' Persistent nausea and vomiting is its chief indication.

#Antimonium crudum. [Ant-c]
Vomiting with a white coated tongue is characteristic of this remedy. The patient vomits as soon as he eats or drinks. It is indicated in vomiting from an overloaded stomach, from eating indigestible substance, such as fat foods or from the heat of summer.

Kreosote suits vomiting of food in an undigested form after it has lain in the stomach for a long time. It is sympathetic vomiting, the irritation starting from some other organ than the stomach. It suites the vomiting of phthisis, cancerous growths, kidney diseases and is also useful in the vomiting of hysteria.

#AEthusa. [Aeth]
A wonderful remedy in vomiting of children where large green curds of milk are vomited, followed by great exhaustion; there is a drawn looks about the mouth suggestive of nausea. The child is hungry, and soon after eating or nursing the vomited matters come with a rush and the child falls back exhausted, only to rouse up and go through the same process again.

#Phosphorous. [Phos]
A very useful remedy in chronic vomiting of dyspepsia. There is great thirst for cold water, but as soon a it becomes warm in the stomach it is vomited. Phosphorous is also useful in vomiting of blood in gastric ulcer and cancer.
Bismuth. Vomiting immediately on taking foods, with burning pain.
Calcarea carbonica. The patient vomits milk as soon as taken, in sour cakes and curds.

#Belladonna. [Bell]
Suits especially vomiting of cerebral origin, and here Glonoine is also apt to be needed.

Camphor monobromide. This remedy is useful in the persistent vomiting of children in brain affections.
Apomorphine. Vomiting of cerebral origin; profuse and sudden vomiting with little or no nausea.

#Iris versicolor. [Iris]
Periodical vomiting spells and especially vomiting of sour matters so sour as to set the teeth on edge.

Read Aethusa and it is the only remedy which has hunger despite being ill with vomiting.

gavinimurthy last decade
Thanks and I admire for your lot of experience.

When I saw the last pages of Materia Medica under the head of 'RELATIONSHIP OF REMEDIES' then I find that under Column Remmedies that follow well) against Ipec. the following are the remedies thatfollow well:

Aranea, Nt. Crud. Ant T. Apis, Arnica, Ars., Bell., Bry. Cact. etc.

Similarly against Ars. although it antidotes Ipec. but at the same time under Column Remmedies that follow well)it is appearing as it follows well.'

There was no need in refering it to you or creating any controversy with you but as you have mentioned on this Forum, I thought to bring it to your kind notice.

However, for immediate need the child responded to the suggested remedies. It is not a chronic case but I felt that some times urgent remedies are required based on whatever symptoms are availale at that time.

For further course of action I leave it to you to suggest for the patient.
