2yr old ith recurrent chalazion problem

My 2yr old son also has a recurrent chalazion problem. It started with one on his lower left eyelid. This grew to the size of peanut. We tried everything! First with the normal antibiotic treatments both orally and externally but it didn't work. Next we consulted 2 opthomologists and one pediatric opthomologist, and all suggested surgery. However my husband and I did not want to put our son through that and decided to just see if it would subside by itself in time.

When a second chalazion started coming up on his upper right eyelid, we decided to try alternative medicinal treatments ( before having to opt for surgery). We consulted an ayurvedic doctor, who truthfully told us that although he did have medicines to cure the problem , it would take alot of time. He suggested we consult a Homeopathic doctor, as they had medicines that would act more quickly and which tasted better ;-)

We consulted a Homeopathic doctor who prescribed a medication called ' Thuja' and an ointment called 'Beckoment' ointment. There was an initial reaction to the medication immediately. Within 1 week the larger chalazion on his left lower lid begin to weep and become smaller. However in the 3rd week we noticed that the medication effect had little effect. After another consultation 'Silica' tablets was added. So now we were giving him the 'Thuja' (Thurs & Sun only), 'Silica tablets and the Beckoment ointment. After a further 3 weeks, the chalazion on his lower left lid has disappeared completely and the one on his right upper lid is getting smaller.

However to our frustration and disappointment another chalazion is growing again on his left lower lid, however in a different place closer to the outer corner of the eye. We are still consulting the Homeopathic doctor and at the moment he has been put on some 'Calcarea Sulphurica'(6x) Tablets and is still continuing with the 'Thuja' and 'Silica'(6x) tablets, as well as the ointment.

Will be seeing the doc tomorrow. Any help with this will be much appreciated.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Can you document any mental symptoms, modalities and concommitants?

Pulsatilla, Staphysagria, Rhustox... There are several good remedies for recurrent chalazions.

any update?

Thank you for your reply srisri. Saw the doc and he prescribed Hep Sulp 30x to be given for 5 days and then to continue with just the Silicea 6x for 1 week. After the course his chalazions did reduce slightly and went back to oc who asked me to continue another 5 days with the Hep Sulp and the Silicea for 2 weeks.
Update now is that his chalazion in his left lower lid is nearly completely gone, just a little swelling left , however the crust formed from the first chalazion in his left eye stll remains and the chalazion in his right upper lid is smaller however still persists. Will be going to see the doctor regarding the right chalazion this week.

Thank you once again and will ask the doc regarding your suggestions.

Went back to doc who has prescribed 3 tablets Graphite 30x to be taken 3 times a day for 2 days and thereafter twice a day for 3 days and then once a day for 2 weeks; plus the continuation of the Silicea tablets. The scab in his left eye has gone and the chalazion in his right eye has reduced.

Only thing now is that he has developed 2 new styes in his right eye as well as conjunctivitis in his right eye. Am becoming really concerned because he keeps getting some problem or another continuously with his eyes. He has started playgroup about 1 week previously however there are no other children with the problem. Is it genetic? I suffered from styes as a young adult 20's and my mother also suffered from them in her 40's.

Can anyone suggest any remedies for his continual eye problems.

PS His clothes, pillows, towels etc are all washed and stored separately.

acute problems could mean the immune system is not working the way it need s to. i would add an immune booster (transfer factor) is a good one. also did you rule out allergy related foods ect.?

Is 'transfer factor' the name of the immune booster and if so would it be readily available in India?

I haven't ruled out allergies, however he has been eating the same foods since he was 1 yr old and does not have any other symptoms related to food allergies. However will enquire with my doctor to suggest a good allergy clinic for testing.

Hi Everyone!!! If You Have A Chalazion You Must Not Try To Pop It!!! Do Not Go See The Doctor Unless The Described Method Does Not Work!!! Buy Some Ginger In Its Raw Form At Your Local Grocery Store, You Will Find It In The Fruits & Vegetables Section, For about 5-10 Cents You Can Buy Enough!!! Take It Home Go In Front Of A Mirror, Slice The Ginger With A Knife And You Will Notice What Looks Like Water Left On The Blade, Sweep Your Finger Across The Side Of The Knife To Pick Up The 'Water' And Gently Apply It To The Lump On The OUTSIDE Of Your Eyelid, Make Sure You DO NOT Get Any Of The Liquid From The Ginger In Your Eye! I Had One Of these Things And I Heard Ginger Worked So I Tried This Method And In ONE Week, After ONE Application, It Was Completely Gone!! It May Take More Than One Application (If Its Really Bad, You Tried To Pop It, etc.) Please Be Careful, Remember Not To Irritate or Play With It Aside From The Treatment, It Needs To Be Left Alone! Good Luck!

I know this discussion was from a long time ago, but did you ever find out what was causing the chalazions? My daughter is going through something very similar, so I would be so grateful for anything you may have discovered along the way!
