Sore Scalp & Hair Loss (to Joe)

Hi

I have had hairloss for years - recession of frontal hairline - temples and sides of hair thinning accompanied by a hot burning sensation sometimes, sometimes itchy prickly feeling and sometimes I get a sore scalp- feels like its bruised and it hurts to move or brush my hair.

I also have thinning pubic hair and sometimes get the sore hair feeling in that area too - my eyelashes and eyebrows have become drier - lack lustre and feel brittle.

I have read some interesting posts about Arnica for hairloss but when I search on here I get other remedys suggested due to the other symptoms I have.

I would really love some advice on which remedy or remedy's might help me?

I also have developed a very uneven skin tone- with what appear to be liver spots on my face and I think my capilliaries are weakening as i am starting to get the odd spider vein around my nose. I am 35 years old and female - and the hair problem has been with me for 10 years.

Any advice greatfully received

Thanks
:)

Thanks very much for your response :) - here are my answers;

Describe your main suffering?
Periodic itching burning and discomfort on scalp together with difuse hair loss main problem areas being temples front area and sides and also area above and behind ears can be strongly affected. Periods of excessive shedding are always accompanied by some degree of scalp discomfort and I also sometimes get a bruised tender sore scalp – its as if it feels tight and when its like this it is painful to move my hair in any way or to brush it. I also have developed a lot of brown marks on my face like liver spots.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?

I often have an upset stomach, suffer mid cycle cramping and mood swings, my skin is often dry especially on my body and lower legs especially. My face skin is drier than it used to be but my nose and chin are very prone to blackheads and always have been. I also suffer from fatigue a lot and adrenal function tests have showed low afternoon cortisol (I can’t take licorice as I have high estrogen and it makes me worse and gives me acne!)

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings?
The hair loss upsets me and makes me feel unattractive, the pain associated with it is upsets me as its difficult to focus on anything else while it is happening. It makes me feel saddened that I have been afflicted with this and undermines my self confidence.

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst?
Hopelessness

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?
It started 10 years ago when I was 24/25 – I had become vegetarian (am not anymore) and also suffered some emotional stress – I also was taking synthetic hormones (not any more)- I also was smoking marijuana a lot - and still do but not as much as then.

6. Which time of the day you are worst?
Hard to say with the hair problem – daytime probably. Fatigue wise early AM and afternoon/evening.

7. What are the things which aggravate your suffering and which are those which ameliorate the same?
I think emotional upset aggravates it, possibly dairy products. If I apply a sublimed sulphur cream to the skin in my temples when it is itching/burning it always relieves it. Essential oils appear to have helped in keeping the apparent inflammation at bay.

8. Do your think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?
yes I believe I have adrenal dysfunction and hormone imbalance as a result of or which had caused adrenal dysfunction.

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?
I like warm dry weather – I am very sensitive to cold. I also donlt like humidity. The weather I don’t think has any bearing on the hair issue.

10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc.
Depends on part of cycle I can be all of the above!

- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm?
I love them – I don’t like the humidity but enjoy the experience of the storm and the freshness that follows it.

- Do you like being consoled during your tough times?
Yes – I need it – I don’t like to be alone.

- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc?
My eyes are quite light sensitive

- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless
weeping, talking to one self etc?
I talk to myself a lot, especially if ii am annoyed about something

- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife?
I am dissatisfied in my relationship it has a lot of ups and downs, we have a lot of stress in my family too - i dont consider my family situation to be ideal or 'normal' - it's not what i would have chosen.

11. What are your fears
rejection, failure, failing health

12. What do you crave for in food items and what are your aversions?
I crave salty food a lot, and cheese and fatty foods, hummus

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive?
I often have a dry mouth but resist drinking water – I crave coffee and tea

14. How if your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive?
Normal

15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand?

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs?
Normal if anything less

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type?
Various – generally pretty loose and pale coloured

18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping?
I occasionally am awake most of the night – I believe this is hormone driven – generally I sleep right through the night and rarely awake feeling refreshed – I always feel very tired on waking.

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general?
yes

20. How do you think you are different from others, if at all?
Difficult question

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?

22. What major diseases are running in your family?
Heart disease, ovarian cancer, mental illness

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall
I think I have a tired expression due to the puffiness in the inner corners of my eyes beneath my brows.

take SEPIA 200C every alternate day morning in empty stomach.

also, every weekend take a dose of NAT MUR 200C empty stoamch in the morning.

continue this for some days, when you notice an improvement, taper down the SEPIA dose to twice a week.

Thanks Rishimba!

I really appreciate your help with this

I had been thinking about the NAT MUR as this came up on the Remedy Finder.

I will try both these remedys as you suggest - one thing I forgot to mention in my answers to your questions was pubic hair pain and loss too - do these remedys help with that?

I have also started taking Agnus Castus for my imbalanced estrogen/progesterone ratio so I wanted to ask if these remedys are ok to take alongside that.

One last question - Sulphur appears to be indicated quite stongly for some of my symptoms and a lot of people are talking about Arnica on here for hairloss - what do you think about these two remedys for my predicament.

Thanks a million again for your advice :)

Sore Head last decade
sepia will take care of all your problems.

you do not need to take agnus castus for estrogen/progesteron ratio, as sepia is itself a strong hormonal regulator and make your periods normal.

natmur will compliment work of sepia and also cover some symptoms.

yes, sulphur is strongly indicated but its not for your constitution. do not take sulphur.

finally, arnica is good for overall well being, especially regulates a good blood circulation.

you can prepare a mixture of arnica crude and coconut oil in the ratio 1:4 and apply it at night before sleeping. wash in the morning. that will benifit you.

rishimba last decade
I have just read this thread which I notice was addressed to me.

Since however Rishimba has already prescribed Sepia and Nat Mur I shall not add any other remedy.

I am glad to note that others also recommend my default remedy Arnica for both internal use and mixed in Coconut oil which I have observed has given positive results. In this case I would recommend that Arnica Q is used as against Arnica crude which is mentioned which is an extract of Arnica not manufactured in the homeopathic manner.

I would like to record that I use this oil mix myself as I discovered about 3 months ago that I was losing hair which is of course not unusual at my age of 76. I use Arnica 30c in the wet dose and Arnica Q in the 20% mix which I massage on my scalp, after succussing the mix well as the Arnica Q which is alcohol based separates from the oil. I use the oil every other day after I wash my hair using only Johnsons baby shampoo.

Rishimba & Jo

Thank you both very much for your help.

Where do I get the Arnica crude? and what is Arnica Q Joe?

what about topical sulphur on my scalp? i do find that it soothes the itching - should i not be doing this?

so to be clear i dont take the Arnica internally? only aply topically and take the other two remedies internally.

i'll buy and give them a go and let you know how i get on!

thanks again :)

Sore Head last decade
Arnica Q or Mother TIncture is usually available at all homeopathic pharmacies. The crude form is I believe the product that is available in supermarkets which I have not used at all.

You can use Sulphur 200c in the wet dose, 1 tespoonful taken once daily but I have no experience with using 'topical sulphur on my scalp'. I do not recommend it as it may cause more problems than it solves.

I would recommend you use Arnica 30c in the wet dose with 1 teaspoonful taken twice daily.

Please note however that you cannot use all the remedies that both Rishimba and I have prescribed. It must be the one or the other.

Hi Joe

Many thanks for you response.

I'm a little confused so would just like to check -you say I cant use all the remedys - can I use Nat Mur and sepia together as an internal treatment. and does this mean that I cannot use the Arnica even topically for my hair problem?

I am not sure what is meant by a wet dose?

will the remedys do me any harm if i continue with the agnus castus as well?

I use a sublimed sulphur cream on my nose and chin at night and when i do this i do not suffer blackheads so i thought it must be doing some good - it also does seem to releive itching and burning.

Can i also ask which of these remedys will be most affective against the brown spots on my face? and if any of them are estrogenic? I have unbalanced and frequently elevated estrogen levels which are excacerbated by estrogenic herbs =- licorice makes me spotty and gives me a temper!

thanks again much appreciated :)

Sore Head last decade
sore head,
sepia is the most effective remedy for all your problems as all these problems are due to hormonal imbalance. this is the root of all your problems.

sepia will take care of all your problems.

brown patches, loss of hair, pain in root of hair while touching, imbalance in hormones resulting in painful periods.

stop agnus castus.

take sepia and nat mur as they compliment each other.

take arnica externally if you want.

can apply cream outside, no problem.

but finally, sepia is going to cure you, nothing else.

rishimba last decade
I note that Rishimba is certain that 'sepia will take care of all your problems.'

I would suggest that you use this remedy, which I must admit I have not used for a case such as yours.

You may also use the Arnica Q mix in Coconut oil as this will not clash with the Sepia.

Please report your response in a few weeks.

Hi Again

One thing I forgot to mention on this thread Rishimba is that I have a history of endometriosis - i used to get chronic back pain and morning sickness - i dont any more i took synthetic hornones for years for this and had laser surgery twice but the last time they said it was clear. I have had fairly recent scans on my ovaries and there was one cyst there but they said this is normal for cysts to come and go during the cycle - I dont have PCOS.

I have terrible brain fog sometimes which affects my work and my upper eyelids are very puffy in the mornings - i always look absolutely shattered until the afternoon quite often!

thoughts?

Sore Head last decade
you are a SEPIA girl and you need not tell me what all problems you have.

i know all your problems are related to hormonal disturbances.

i think you may have one or more of the following characteristics as well.

- one inch wide horizontal yellow band on your nose, whenever you are sick.

- leg pain during menses.

- cramps during menses.

- cracks in lips.

- dry skin in folds or elbows.

- oppression in chest as well during menses.

- ball type sensation in the stomach.

- constipation

- you hate your bf or husband at times.

dont worry, all these problems will be solved by SEPIA.

this is your constitutional remedy.

best wishes.

Hello,
Sore Head described my problem nearly exactly!

I've decided to respond to Rishimba's questionaire just in case my remedy is a little different.

For background:
My hair has been noticeably thinnning in the front and sides for over 7 years. I was on Birth control pills for over 10 years. I am now not on them. Where the hair is thinning and miniaturizing I have a painful scalp as if someone harshly tried to comb tangles out or I had pigtails in too tight. The more pain I feel the more hair I lose.

Hi Laugh Hearty

You are very similar to me - go to www.adrenalfatigue.org and do the adrenal fatigue questionaire -it takes a while and is Quite in depth - have a look at the indicators for this- my problems began with the blessed birth control pills too - i was already hormonally disturbed (endometriosis) and for some reason they thought giving me unnatural synthetic hormones would actually help! I smoked pot for years too - existed on a very poor vegetarian diet, suffered emotional stress - all things that burn out your adrenals over time- I have been taking Dr Wilsons protocol for adrenal fatigue and i think things are improving- i am also taking arnica at the moment as a trial and have bought the sepia and nat mur that Rishimba recommends as i do think the root cause is hormonal imbalance that has been excacerbated by synthetic hormones and lifestyle choices over the years.

If you want to chat off the forum let me know your mail address and i'd be happy to

I note that you have addressed your post to me but since others have already prescribed some remedies I would not like, at this juncture, to suggest other remedies which I feel may be more suited to your ailments.

If after using these remedies you do not have the relief that you expect, please contact me when I hope that I will be alerted by the usual email which for some reason is not reaching me.

Hi,

It seems this is the first area that I have found that resembles what I'm going through.

I am 36 years old and suffered from endometriosis since the age of 16. In March 2003 I was forced to undergo a partial hysterectomy (leaving only the left ovary intact). Everything else was badly damaged. Since I still had my left ovary, I did not have to take any medication. Everything was going fine until September 2005 when the left ovary was overtaken by 2 large cysts. Thus, we were forced to remove the remaining left ovary. After the initial surgery in 2003 I started experiencing a hot burning sensation on the crown area of my scalp. It would just burn. I thought it was just a side effect of everything that my body was going through. I started to notice some thinning of the hair but nothing major. After my last surgery in September 2005, I was prescribed 1 mg estrogen to take on a daily basis. I kept experiencing the burning sensation on the crown area of the scalp and some hair loss. As well, the area on the scalp feels sore as if I had bruised the area. I went to see my dermatologist who said to give it a couple of months to see if it gets any better since my body has undergone major changes and is trying to adjust.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Patricia

Joe, I have a nearly identical profile as sore head, so I am so happy to know homeopathy may be able to help.

The differences with me are:

hair falling and scalp burining for 5 years, coincident with getting braces (not a good outcome),

i like humidity,

I often wake in a panic around 3 am,

i want to be comforted, but won't let anyone in my family comfort me.

Number 7 is not me- i don't see anything that helps or hinders.

My family is normal, but my husband frustrates me primarily around money and his inability to understand this crisis- i want him to rescue me (not just this situation - all situations).

My one habit is I rub the top of my nose when i am concentrating.

my bowels are brown but change in size.

no ovarian cancer in my family

my overall appearance is sunken, due to the braces, old and scary.

along with the hair loss came hair on my upper lip and hands.

Other descriptions are right on.

Can you help me?

Thanks!!
