Homeopathic Remedies for Severe OCD
We are looking for an effective homeopathic treatment for my 18 year old son who is suffering from a severe OCD. We would appreciate the suggestions and will be happy to answer questions about his disorder. Thanks!BlackSea on 2007-08-09
This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
In most cases Belladonna-30 work instantly. If the child is restless at night also then start with Sulphur 30 once a day for two days and then Belladonna 30

Dear Blacksea
It is very difficult to treat OCD cases on forums like these.
Can't you access a homeopath in person?

Thank you very much for the advice. Here is what I've gotten when I checked the applicable symptoms on this website:
Cactus Grandiflorus - impulse to do strange things : insecure, uncertain, scared; anxiety
Phosphoricum Acidum - impaired thinking; chaotic
Mezereum - insecure, uncertain, scared; anxiety
Nux Moschata - preoccupied
Physostigma - preoccupied; counting continually
Phosphorus - intellectual faculties; impaired thinking; chaotic : insecure, uncertain, scared; anxiety : preoccupied
Belladonna - impaired thinking; chaotic : insecure, uncertain, scared; anxiety
So I had a hard time to figure out what remedy we should be using.

I also wanted to share another feedback that we've gotten:
'Since OCD is complex situtation to understand. It is better if you see Homoeopath nearby who may after interrogation with your son directly will help you better.
If atall your son has got fear of being mentally disabled for example if he thinks that he is going to be insane you may give her one dose of Kali Carb 200.'
'First and foremost, please get your son to learn meditative techniques. Encourage him to read spiritual books so that he develops the correct perspective towards life. I recommend Thuja occidentalis 10M 4 pills once every 15 days for two months and White chestnut(Bach flower remedy)4 pills thrice daily for two months. Hopefully, this protocol should help him come out of this situation.'
If anybody had a success with any of these remedies, could you please let us know? Thank you!

Another recommendation we got was the following:
'The two remedies which will be useful are BELLADONNA and PHOSPHORUS.
you have to start with BELLADONNA 1M one dose every week for 3 weeks.
after a gap of two weeks, please take PHOSPHORUS 1M one dose per week for 3 weeks.
if you feel any difference in these 2 months, you have to continue the same with a higher potency, that is 10M and the gap would be 2 weeks between each dose.
I hope, within 6 months, you will be cured of all your mental troubles.'
I want to thank contributors for the recommendations.
It would be great if we could get a second opinion or just words of wisdom.
If there is anybody out there who got cured or treated from severe OCD, please share your inspiration with us.

Dear Blacksea
A homeopath's physical observation of your son will reveal many details which can't be expressed correctly on a forum.
The way he sits, the way he talks, his general way of answering questions, the level of his intelectual capabilities and many more such issues are observed in a face to face consultation.
Of course, there are all sorts of homeopaths, and you have to chose one very carefully.
Read this article on how to choose a good homeopath.
http://www.abchomeopathy.com/forum2.php/115535/
You are most likely to get conflicting advices on the forums, and you may not be able to decide what to do.
That is why I suggested to see a good homeopah in person.

Thank you, Murthy (by the way your article on how to choose a good homeopath is very helpful). I did take your advice and tried to look for a homeopath in our area but unfortunately I couldn't find one.
My other option was to describe my son's symptoms and answer the questions the best I could, and get the recommendations from the practitioners and then discuss the recommended treatments on the forum like this. I am hoping that the experience in treating various patients would help the homeopaths give us the reliable advice and help my son's condition.
I still think it's admirable that the homeopaths here are trying to help people in need and I thank them and you for the efforts.

I didn't deal with OCD cases so far. Let us wait for the advices of more experienced people.
Since you have read the article which stresses the importance of similar medicine, single medicine at a time etc..hopefully, you may now be able to judge the quality of advice.

After dealing with many OCD cases, I recommended you to start with Belladonna 30. It is the remedy for intense delerium. If Belladonna dose something on the patient, that is the starting point - on my patient.

My repeated thinking: is why it is even happening and how maybe i may never return to normalcy.
The main subject of my anxiety and depression: disability, sickness, feeling of being incompetent.
My biggest fears are: being being incompetent, being disabled and not being able to breath.
My other fears are anything leading to the main fears.
The main subject of my constant brooding: is having to order every thought i have, whether it be about people, about events, what locations, what i have to do, what i would like to do, and so on, in a continuous list which is made using numbers i favor. if i have one thought about a topic, i feel i should have a certain number of more thoughts about the same topic. i need to have everything i think about in check. if i think i thought about something and now cannot remember what it was about, i am severely bothered.
I think like that: because if i don't have everything in check i cannot focus on what i need to do. i feel as if i'm missing something.
I don't think I've gone through any incident or mental trauma earlier in life. My physician believed I might have had the initial stage of encifilitis after being sick with the Epstein-Barr virus in early childhood (when I was around 1 year old).
10. Since how long you are suffering for each complain Ans severely since 13 years old - for 5 years

18. How does this affect you ? Ans I can not go on with my daily activities and lead a normal life
19. How does it feel like ? Ans It feels like I am not in control
20. What comes to your mind ? Ans Unwelcome thoughts and that I would not be able to be normal again
21. One situation that had a big effect on you ? Ans I can not recall any event like that
22. How did that feel like ? Ans N/A
23. What sensation do you experience in that situation ? Ans N/A

26. family back ground Ans I had the cases of axiety and depression, aslo cancer in my family
27. qualification of patient Ans High school
28. Nature of working Ans Student
29. desire or like and dislike of food Ans like ice-cream. lamb; do not like hot dogs, fresh papaya

Ans I can not talk to another person, I have to put a lot of energy if I need to say a word. I think people can see that I am strange and trying to stay away from me. Sometimes I blame them and irritated by it.

Hi BlackSea,
The 'physical rituals' you mention are:?
Is he a perfectionist?
Does he feel usually colder/warmer/the same as the rest in the same place?
What/how much he drinks/a day?
And last: when is his birthday (kuldeep: have you finished that book?)
All homeopaths here will certainly guess that I'm inquiring the possibility of Ars. here- it cured OCD case I had.

I don't understand #24
you write about physical rituals in #16 but I can't find it
how would the outsider describe him?
what upsets him most
*about himself?
**about others?

Thank you for the reply.
I've listed the physical rituals under # 9. He is not a perfectionist. He doesn't feel any different in any place. He drinks normal amount. His birthday is in May.
#24 was asking about a gesture, so I was trying to describe a gesture he is making. People think he is strange because of his behaviour. He is mostly upset that he can not go on with his daily life. He doesn't like other people in general most of the time for no specific reason.
He took Zoloft for many months but it had no affect. He was hoping it would though. He is very sensitive to disorder and confusion.
Thanks for your feedback!!!

dO YOU HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:-
Obsessions are defined by:
Recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that are experienced at some time during the disturbance, as intrusive and inappropriate and that cause marked anxiety or distress.
The thoughts, impulses, or images are not simply excessive worries about real-life problems.
The person attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, impulses, or images, or to neutralize them with some other thought or action.
The person recognizes that the obsessional thoughts, impulses, or images are a product of his or her own mind, and are not based in reality.
The tendency to haggle over small details that the viewer is unable to fix or change in any way. This begins a mental pre-occupation with that which is inevitable.
Compulsions are defined by:
Repetitive behaviors or mental acts that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession, or according to rules that must be applied rigidly.
The behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing or reducing distress or preventing some dreaded event or situation; however, these behaviors or mental acts either are not connected in a realistic way with what they are designed to neutralize or prevent or are clearly excessive.
In addition to these criteria, at some point during the course of the disorder, the sufferer must realize that his/her obsessions or compulsions are unreasonable or excessive. Moreover, the obsessions or compulsions must be time-consuming (taking up more than one hour per day), cause distress, or cause impairment in social, occupational, or school functioning.[2] OCD often causes feelings similar to those of depression.

Hello,
My son has all symptoms what you discribed:
His persistent thoughts and images are: he may never return to normalcy, he could become disabled, he might appear imcompetent, he might not be able to breath. His anxiety and distress level are extremely high.
He is trying to neutralize these thoughts with the following thoughts and actions: he would ORDER every thought he has, whether it's about people, about events, what locations, about what he has to do, what he would like to do, and so on, in a continuous list which is made using NUMBERS HE FAVORS. if he has one thought about a topic, he feels he should have a CERTAIN NUMBER of more thoughts about the same topic. He needs to have everything he thinks about IN CHECK. if he thinks he thought about something and now cannot REMEMBER what it was about, he is severely bothered.
My son is mentally pre-occupied every minute he is awake.
Once again his compulsions are: having to order every thought he has about everything and anything in a continuous list which is made using numbers he likes, having to think thoughts about the same topic, having everything in check, remembering specific events. In his words: 'I think like that: because if i don't have everything in check i cannot focus on what i need to do. i feel as if i'm missing something.' speaks to how his behaviors and mentals acts are aimed to reduce or prevent something dreadful. He is aware though that's what he is doing is not connected to reality and his obsessions/compulsions might be unreasonable, but he can not control it.
Thank for your recommendations!
