What remedies DO you have at home btw?

Sometimes I have to be careful not to pigeonhole a remedy - I cannot see the child, so I cannot judge what state it is in. You see chamomilla children, so irritable, difficult - you can see them when they are in the room in that state. When the mother picks them up it is different to the Stramonium child who does indeed cling for dear life. Chamomilla looks like they have made you do what they want, so they are somewhat satisfied with that. But Stramonium has a tight grip, afraid to let go.

This is something George Vithoulkas has to say about prescribing remedies outside of the well known picture of it.

'The more one studies
homeopathy, the more one realizes that there are many facets to each remedy.
The material written in the old books, while very good, only represents one
view of a remedy and usually emphasizes the extreme pathologic picture. In
the old Stramonium material we read about wildness, violence, and delusions.
If that were all that we prescribed upon, we would have to wait until the
Stramonium patients were very ill before we could find help for them.
Unfortunately, the material to replace these older books is only now
being published, including my Materia Medica Viva. Because of this lack of
information, since many people learn only the extreme form of individual
remedies, they are to recognize the seemingly healthy and less severely
compromised states. For instance, the materia medica lists Stramonium as
very reactive, very violent, and with strong neurologic symptoms, yet many
patients do not fit these extreme descriptions. Dr. Herscu's book should
go a long way toward fine tuning the symptoms that relate to the entire
range of Stramonium.
One of the best personal experiences I encountered to demonstrate
this point was the case of a woman in England suffering with lymphoma.
Some of her symptoms were abdominal pain, with mucousy stools that
alternated between constipation and diarrhea. She liked sweets and vegetables
and disliked meat. She was timid, shy, sensitive, mild, sentimental, lacked
confidence and was very neat. She had fears of pins and of being alone
and had had a terrible disappointment in her love life. She had vertigo
from high places.
Many of the conference participants saw Pulsatilla quite strongly and
wanted to prescribe it, as it was the obvious choice. Yet the Vithoulkas
Expert System kept on coming up with Stramonium. I gave Stramonium
and it acted beautifully; the patient was cured, went on to have a wonderful
pregnancy and baby. The point here is that the participants could not see
Stramonium because they did not see in front of them the extreme form of the remedy. This book should make it easier to find Stramonium when the
patient is not in that extreme form.
This above mentioned case also illustrates one of the main points of this
book. Understanding Stramonium in its relationship to other remedies can
help us in our practice to give the needed remedy at the right time'

200c is the potency I find most useful for acutes so get that if you can.

Adult cases are way more complicated lol. If you want to give it a try sure :)

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Okay will get the stram 200. Pellets are alright? Just one dose to start.. or..?

When it comes to having meds at home- i have quite a bit, in laws have used homeopathy for decades, but mainly for acutes.

Do you have a basic questionaire for me to answer to start out with? Or should i just list current state symptoms? Will start another thread on that- thanks so much!

Better start another thread lol.

Be aware, acute prescriptions are much easier than chronic ones, and adults are much more complex than children. I tend to lose a certain amount of information through writing that I find very useful in face-to-face consults.

You need to make the Stramonium into a wet dose just like we did with your son. Give one dose and wait 2 hours, assess reaction and give another if she is still not well. After that we can see how things have gone.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Ok will do that tomorrow when i get the med.
Is stram and puls related? I gave one dose of puls this evening. Altho it didn't calm her right away, she seems to be sleeping well.

And is it okay to give the stram tomorrow after the puls today?

They are not related plants, but they have some similarities in their presentation, mainly around the Clinging which is a strong feature of both of them.

Pulsatilla wants to be 'number 1 in the lap' so to speak, they are somewhat jealous and like to be given all the attention. So the lap is the best place to get that. The more affection and attention they are shown the better they are.

Stramonium is afraid, and they need someone they trust to hold on to. When they get in the lap they are hiding from something.

You changed the way you gave her that dose of Puls didn't you? Make sure you report in the morning before giving her anything else, just in case how it was being given was the problem.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Yes i did,i gave it like you suggested. I don't know but she's sleeping! She's been sleeping since 7:30... that hasn't happened............. ever.

Will post in the morning.

Also, repeat the Puls during the night if you need to. Increase the succussions by 1 for the next dose.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
so for the next dose- hit the bottle 3 times?

thanks!!
karina

i started the new thread.

karinamom last decade
yes, and then 4 if you need to do it again.

The slower response may show you need to raise the potency faster.

Okay here is the status: she woke up around midnight, but quickly went back to sleep. Around 4 am she woke up cranky, upset, so i gave her a dose (3 hits). SHe calmed down, got in a better mood, tossed and turned for an hour, and finally fell back asleep. She woke up at 7- fantastic mood, ate drank well... and has been playing.
She's contipated tho, did not have bm yesterday, and had 2 painful ones today, cried while having them- which is unusual for her.
Have not given her any doses today.
Thanks so much!!
Karina

karinamom last decade
Should i pick up the 1m? DO you think i would need it?
Karina

karinamom last decade
It doesn't appear that you need 1M at this point.

The painful stools do concern me a bit though. Especially because they are not normal for her. Did she have that before the Pulsatilla or the Nit-ac (or any other remedy she was given)? What is the stool like?

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
I never ended up giving her the Nit-ac, i didn't have it with me and puls was given on impulse because she was crying so much- i thought i would try your method of hits.
She ended up having one more bm, a bit more, and didn't complain of pain at that time.
I gave her one more dose today around noon (4 hits). She's been eating well, drinking water (which she usually doesn't), and playing.
She seems to be getting a little cranky now, but i'm waiting it out.
She's occasionally putting her finger in her ear, (just touching, not boring in) and saying that it hurts, but she's not crying about it.
You've been so so so so helpful.
thanks,
karina

Excellent. Again this is exactly the sort of response you want to see in acutes. So the initial picture of Pulsatilla was correct - can you see how easy it is to get pulled off course if you don't pay attention to the other details of treatment like dosage and potency? This can be a tough job I tell you :)

If there is any relapse, wait half an hour and repeat the dose, but add 1 more hit to the bottle (so 4 instead).

I will have a look at your case later on today - but will need a lot more information for an chronic adult's case, so I hope you are prepared lol.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Ok perfect. and thanks again!!
Yeah, i don't really understand the potency, and how it works, trying to read up and gain some insight. I tried puls 200 2 months ago on her, gave her a couple of doses and it just did not work at all. Yesterday it was like magic, especially the sleep. Do you know where I could get a good understanding about the potencies?

karinamom last decade
I can have a look around for you. But actually there are two excellent sites for information about homoeopathy, by two homoeopaths whose knowledge and opinions are quite trustworthy.

http://www.drluc.com/

http://www.simillimum.com/

Potency and dosage is definitely something I have learned as I went along.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Last dose was given around 5ish in the evening, with 5 hits. She slept rather quickly today, so will see how the night goes.
Can this med also cause any aggravation if administered too frequently? or too many hits? do the hits make a marked increase in potency?

karinamom last decade
The hitting of the bottle creates a slight increase in the potency, which might create a little more aggravation at times. Too frequent dosing can also create more aggravation. It is all about balancing these things with the state of the disease. The potency and frequency of dosage must be matched to the intensity of the disease.

Her nose is a little stuffy. Leaking a little bit. She didn't sleep as well as she did the night before. I think if she turned towards her left side, she couldn't breathe very well, once i turned her to the right side, she slept longer. Her cough seems a lot less. But when she cries, you can hear the congestion. She woke up twice, but quickly fell back asleep with a few pats..
Her mood has been better the last two days. She's been playing more, drinking more water, and eating.
I gave her one dose today 6 hits.

karinamom last decade
The 1M might be necessary here - although there is still good progress. Some relapse is not uncommon in an acute, as long as the 200c helps then keep using it.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
i actually was gonna ask you about the 1m. I noticed today she was eating okay.. but little cranky, like as tho she's tired. I gave her that dose of the 6 hits but didn't notice much improvement. I was waiting to hear back from you... if i use less water, or more drops .. would it make a difference? i'm using 1 tspn out of a 1/4 cup of water

karinamom last decade
Use 8 hits but also get 1M.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
her mood and appetite are good, but she too woke up a lot last night.. 5-6 times... would the 1m be suitable?

karinamom last decade
she was cranky quite a bit today, in the car, at home, not when we went out to a new place though.
I gave her the 1m as you said one dose in the evening. Will let you know how it goes with her.

thanks!
