David and I have a little different approach to find a simillimum, as you correctly noticed. He narrows down medicines based on mind symptoms; I use them too, but I try to fit physical symptoms as tightly as possible, probably with the prevalence of physical as your son's mind is still unclear to me. I wished to fill this gap when David walked in, and his questions were helpful, but not enough. I think it is important though. Mean while, your son constantly exhibits new symptoms, like disapearence of aches in his feet (was expected), yellow discharge from nose, eczema instead of acne - should I trust it is a true eczema? fakes in the scalp, wheezing, - there is no single day without a new symptom, although some were expected. It makes my task more difficult. So I am still looking, I need to narrow down my selections too.
Does yellow discharge from the nose smells? Does he perspire when he sleeps, if yes, where? I need to understand his movement in bed during sleeping, is it due to being hot?

Lylla last decade
Actually Lylla that is not true. If you look through my analysis of the case, you can see that I initially started looking at the physicals and generals. However almost no modalities were given, which makes such symptoms impossible to use successfully. I am quite capable of prescribing only on generals and peculiars, but I since in this case that seems to lead nowhere, I am attempting to understand the mental state. All of these things reflect one state in reality, so they should all lead to the same place.

It is all about tracing where the energy is most active in the case. The symptoms with the most energy, and therefore with the most similarity to the remedy, will have the most modalities, the most peculiaties. In cases where patients have generalized physical complaints with few differentiating features, you have to look deeper into areas that are by their very nature individual and peculiar - any 'I' symptom fills this role nicely, mental, emotional or general.

I have to run to clinic this morning, I will keep looking over this when I get back today.

Take care all.

David

To answer you questions.

Does yellow discharge from the nose smells? No, it does not

Does he perspire when he sleeps, if yes, where? Yes, he says he sweats on his body and his head.

I need to understand his movement in bed during sleeping, is it due to being hot? I asked him before you even posed this question and I also asked if he is having any dreams which makes him move in bed...in both cases he said he was not sure. It is like he doesn't remember moving. He definitely is hot and sweats but he can't say if this is why he is moving. I would guess it is because he is hot and he is trying to find comfort.

All I can say is I am getting more confused by the minute. I thought we try to look at themes (not homeopathy term, I'm sure) but in essence we look at what is going on...like the patient is physically and maybe even mentally telling us he is 'stiff' and/or he is lethargic and or is dull in mind and or he is congested or maybe melancholy. These themes help to build a picture to select based on. If today, he has yellow mucus and tomorrow it turns white...in my mind it should not necessarily prevent us from seeing the picture which may be congestion. I don't know if this is making sense to you but I am surprised that my son's daily changes in his symptoms is distorting what remedy should be considered next. If the correct theme(s) is identified then I would think this changes will do nothing other than confirm the selection. The exception would be if a new symptom presented that didn't fit into one of the identified themes. I'd be shocked if that happened at this point based on what we are seeing...in that case, we are still waiting for the remedy to heal. I think the Med has done more than what it needed to do to tell you 1. does he need another dose of Med -- which I believe you have stated he does not. 2. What are his new symptoms helping to identify for us - in this case, I think it has revealed that my son is struggling with asthma, allergies and eczema which is no surprise. 3. How do I find his next remedy -- mental, physical or a combination whatever we can see.

-- How you get there via mentals or physical I don't know and I don't care. But in either case I would personally want a sanity check (if you select lets say on mental then confirm after you select that the physicals are fitting).

I understand what David is saying and quite honestly it makes sense. You keep saying you don't have what you need to find a remedy based on his physical then you go with what you have, including mentals. I don't think it means you don't find the next remedy. In this case, my son is just getting worse and believe it or not, I don't think he's going to show you much more than what he has shown you. The only glimmer of a hope that I would have would be that the Med cures him...do either of you believe this is the case...we have agreed that he does not need another dose so that means he is on his way to being healed. If this is the case, then speak up now, I need to know that. If you don't believe he will be healed, then you believe he needs another remedy and the picture has more than unfolded, IMHO.

This is why I'm so confused as to why you are asking about his nasal discharge and if it smells. You keep looking at the detail but I feel like you are getting lost in the weeds...if you don't have enough physicals why are you only asking about them and not asking questions that will help point to the next remedy.

I think in David's case, he has come up with (yet to confirm) a remedy based on mentals and then we need to stack that up with the physicals to ascertain if in fact he selected based on the right mentals. I am guessing that we we should see things like eczema, allergies, skin as part of its picture. At that point, I'm not sure if its yellow, blue or green nasal discharge will be of importance as long as we see nasal related symptoms. My only concern, since I am not an homeopath, is could he select a remedy based on an incorrect mental(s) that has matching physicals which could lead to problems for my son. I hope you understand my question. David, can you tell me?

Thank you both, once again, for all your time and consideration.

Forgetfulness makes him very morose

David,
In terms of the mind rubies you identified, I have some questions.

Brain fag
Impaired memory
Absent-mindedness
Lack of confidence in himself and in others
BAD MEMORY
Hesitates, often does nothing
Unsocial
Vanishing of thoughts, deficiencies of ideas
Loss of comprehension, confusion and emptiness in the head
LACK OF SELF-CONFIDENCE
Estrangement from individuals and society
Forgetfulness makes him very morose

Why do we have both Impaired memory and Bad Memory?

Lack of Self Confidence -- twice once with 'an in others' (why 'and in others'?) -- what makes you think he does not have confidence in others?

What about Melancholy - I think thats important -- he seems sad to me.

Timid -- I think I stated that he is timid. Even with teachers, he will not go up and ask them anything, it's like he is afraid to do so. That is why teachers don't get to know my son.

critical - my son right now seems to be critical. Remember I mentioned how he criticizes his coach or teammates.

lethargic -- not wanting to do anything but laying around -- even when he does his homework. Is this what you were trying to capture with Hesitates, often does nothing? I'm not sure exactly if he hesitates...he just does nothing with no hesitation.

Wouldn't these be part of your rubies? Also why do we have Forgetfulness makes him very morose listed? I'm not sure what I said made you get this impression of my son...maybe if you explain what this really means.

Thank you.

Dear, you are not helping. Every word of your emotional monolog about me is taking place of your child's symptoms description.
Thank you for answering my questions though. It helped me to come up with suggestion, yet to be confirmed. I really have to go to sleep now as I sleep only 5 hrs each day this week. I'll explain my choice tomorrow, it is Nat Mur.

Lylla last decade
Sorry I have offended you but as you may be aware I am frustrated...I can't apologize for that. I will try to curtail my reactions as we proceed. I do appreciate your time, that I am most grateful.

I am happy to hear that you have gotten much closer to selecting a remedy.

I know I am not a homeopath but yet I still felt compelled last week to read on this triage of asthma, allergies and eczema. After doing so I came up with a list of about 25 remedies that kept coming up as addressing this situation (note Anacardium was not indicated at the time of my research (thank you David). I went through each of them with a checklist for all the things I was observing (physical and mental) from my son I after doing so, I was actually down to Thuja and Nat Mur. It was an interesting process, as I was totally surprised that Thuja made it all the way through...Nat Mur, not as much of a surprise. Anacardium, again was not considered as it didn't seem to come up repeatedly on my search. I looked at many like Psorinum, Sulphur, Rhus, Arsenicum, Alumina, Antimon, Veratrum, Causticum, Silicea, Mezereum, Ipecacuanha the list goes on.

I actually came down to Thuja which I guess I would ask as you are confirming you can just pay particular note and compare Thuja with Nat Mur. Again, this was based on the information I had at hand at that time. I kept going back and forth but because Thuja seemed to hit all aspects, didn't miss one, it was my top choice. The real issue I had with Nat Mur was that I didn't find anything that related to his sort of heel issue (granted that may be gone now -- so it may not even be an issue but it was the main reason I picked Thuja over Nat Mur -- as I said they were very close). Now, I thoroughly understand, I don't have experience with what you see in practice, nor do I have access to all the information one needs to have, but I do think it would be nice just to compare as you do your confirmation of Nat Mur.

My non scientific test for each remedy including whether or not they seem to address the following...
sinus related issues, reparatory issues, skin problems, memory, heel and tendons, constipation, dry but oil skin (his face is more oily the rest dry), stiffness in nape , lethargic and low energy, muscle weakness, hacking cough, tearing of muscles. dwarfish, bites nails, melancholy, lack of confidence.

As David has requested, I have not read up on Anacardium. As a result I can't even guess how this compares to Nat Mur or Thuja.

David and Lyllia, please let me know once you have confirmed your selection. Thank you again!

In terms of his acne this is really bothering him today as its changed...
I really thought it was eczema as it really started out with two very rosy and red skin on each cheek with a lot of small pimple like lesion that seems to crust over with some yellow stuff. Today there is no yellow stuff and he has a lot more little black pores and small bumps in a lot of new areas. In addition, he has some a number of large cystic acne...very red and inflamed and he said they are tender. Two of them actually had some white pus in them.

So, I don't know if its always been acne...but for a while it looked more like eczema from the pictures and now its looking like a mixture a hundred plus small raised bumps that are dark in color with some cystic inflamed acne.

Hope this helps. I think its bothering him that its not going away as he now talks much more about it and yesterday he was putting baby powder on it so it was so red and to absorb some his oil...he told me that he was going to come up for a cure for acne.

Nasal discharge yellow all day at school and the last few have been more clear...let's more mucus is coming out when he blows...sounds much more congested today then even yesterday.

Those weren't rubrics, they were symptoms taken out of the materia medica for that remedy. I only listed something like memory twice because the books list it twice. It is an important feature of that remedy.

It appears that my help here isn't actually all that welcome, so I will withdraw from the case and allow Lylla the space to work things out.

Peace and good luck.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
David,
I am not sure why you would like to back out. I think you help is very much needed. First, I did not understand that they were not rubics. I was just adding some aspects of the case I didn't see on your list. This was not intended at all to say that your selected remedy was incorrect. On the contrary, I was just making sure you were aware of them and considered them in the case.

I believe Lyllia asked you to provide help because she knows she could use it...Lyllia can speak to that directly.

Isn't important to do what is right for the patient and if we have two professionals who have yielded two different remedies shouldn't we 'shake' it out. In Lyllia's initial request to me to have you involved, it was clear that she was looking to do what was best for the patient. Can I now look at Anacardium and can you tell me what you believe the primary differences of Nat Mur and Anacardium are in regards to this specific case.

Thank you.

Dear, I was in a passive mode deliberately to give space to David, if you did not understand. So all your frustration with me was worth nothing. Initially I said, it is up to you who's advice to follow, but you can not sit in two chairs. Since you welcomed David's help, I suggested to step aside, being able to watch the same thread or another of yours.

You pressed me for a suggestion (rather rudely)... Then you implied you are capable of prescribing as well. Oh well. It is your child after all.

I guess, you did not understand what you just did: you sided with me on Nat Mur and David things it is a done deal. You picked one. But you did not mean to, it is not your wish to continue with me. Besides, you are chronically unhappy with me, raising red flags. I am not frustrated, but I find it difficult to work. So why don't I withdraw too?

It is up to somebody else to educate you on a theory of homeopathy now.

Best to you and your child.

I am so sorry that I have not done well with reading cues and understanding the protocols that follow within these forums...I am rather new at this.

There is no doubt my intention has always been and remains to help my son. I wish someone was more direct with me...when I replied 'two heads are better than one', was surely an indication that I misunderstand your intentions.

At this point, my son is worse off than when we started...does anyone care to ignore the problems I (parent) have created and focus on my son (child) to get him to at least a better place.

David, I will ask you to please reconsider and help walk me through the next step.

This only hurts my son and he should not be punished for my wrong doings.

He really is in desperate need to have something to relieve his current distress. Reconsideration would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Just because David did not answer, I decided to reply once more before I go away completely. Again, it does not mean that I am re-taking your case.
I just think there is something important to tell you that I promissed earlier, but never did.
It is about how I selected Nat Mur. I found it using different criteria than what you described. It was based among other considerations on your post where your son finds himself in a wrong direction in bed in the morning and does not remember how it happened. The problem is called sleepwalking. There is not many medicines for it in homeopathy and Nat mur is among best. The medicine David suggested is on the list too, but in the end of it. There are other considerations for Nat Mur that I used, but I had to ask more questions to confirm my selection.
A message from my son, who also took your case close to his heart: YOU DO NOT KNOW YOUR SON. He said he was like that himself and I did not have a clue. My last advice to you: get him to a professional classical homeopath who will be able to SEE him and will ask the right questions, because both David and I see him through your eyes.
Good luck!

Lylla last decade
Yes, I see that there is little interest now to help my son.

Thank you for providing your feedback.
As I may or may not have mentioned, I have been down this road before with my daughter. We do not have your good classical homeopath professionals in our area...you typically need to be in a bigger city environment to get that. As both my children had a naturopath doctor who also was licensed in homeopathy, we did use her initially for my daughter but she never interviewed my daughter, per se and we unfortunately had no change. I then went 2 hrs away to a homeopath but again, the same typical ADHD remedies were given to no avail. The biggest initial improvement was going 7 hrs away and that was our first breakthrought. Unfortunately, follow-up did not work as I would hope and the case really didn'tt progress. As my daughter developed more mental related issues (panic attacks etc.), I then used this forum and it helped for my daughter. She has continued to get help from this forum and so I thought it made sense to try with my son. My options are not great. Where you lives makes a huge difference as to homeopathic services available and unfortunately it is not great here.

In terms of knowing my son...I never stated anyplace that I know my son...on the contrary, I believe I mentioned so many times that this was difficult as I don't know what my son is thinking and he is not at a place where he understands how to read and describe his body or mind fully yet. I get that and understand that it makes it difficult but I have found some professionals on this forum have so much experience that they are able to help you ask or look for the clues to help them take the case.

In the hope that someone will want to help my son, I am going to continue my updates here for now.

1. I happened to be cleaning in my study where I have many pictures...and there as in front of my eyes was a picture of my 8 month old son...I took the picture over to the window and looked at his face...and there it was eczema on both of his cheeks and on his front part of his neck (2 patches)...and it helped to remind me that yes, he had eczema in both those places in addition to the folds of his skin in his elbows and knees.

2. I made an effort the last two nights to get up and check on my son's sleeping position -- if it makes any difference whatsoever -- and all instances he was on his back with his hands over his head.

3. In terms of his mind, I have notice and he has shared some additional information.
-- he has been forgetting more every day and he thinks his mind is playing tricks on him. Examples, he comes home and he knows if he goes to the door first he must turn off the alarm...he has been forgetting and on Friday, he actually, kept saying out load...don't forget the alarm, don't forget the alarm. He said, I just have trouble remembering things. Then he has a very fun sleep over field trip coming up and he was given a check on Wed...do you think he's handed it in yet. He said, Mom I try to remember, I just keeping forgetting. The other thing he has been doing a lot and he has mentioned the last few days, he has cereal in his hand and he puts in away in the refrigerator or he will do this with a glass and instead of filling it up with milk, he puts it in the refrigerator.

Oh yes, he continues to talk under his breath more now than he ever.

I am so very sad that this case has come to this...and do hope that someone is willing to review and help my son. I believe you and David have probably come up with the two best fitting remedies. I do wonder how come doctors in our traditional settings can team up to collaborate on how to treat a patient but we have come to a point where we can't decide which remedy may work best for my son. This is not to say, that I am not willing to work with just one professional on this...I am, I wish you just were direct and said, it is either or...I would have done whatever I needed to move forward. I didn't read the indirect cues that this was the case and just assumed that two professionals were coming together as allies to help move a case forward. I can't keep apologizing for my ignorance.

Luck, is not what I was hoping for when I began this process...and it is not what I wish for now. I am looking for compassion and the hope that my son will get better.

David or Lylla,

My son's acne/eczema is slowing getting better now...day by day.

His biggest problems are his congestion with constant blowing of the nose with much mucus (back to more clear than yellow now) and yes, he continues with his dry cough/hacking and some wheezing. The cough/hack has been with him since I opened this thread and has not improved at all. I am highlighting the most significant part of his case.

His mentals, like talking under his breathe, irritability, sadness seem to have gotten worse.

I feel compelled to move forward until I can consider where I can turn with comfort. As such, I would like to give him either the Nat Mur or Anacardium as I know you both knew his case and the details and therefore are probably good next remedies.

Would one of you find it in your hearts to at least indicate for me what potency I should give.

I have read from Dr. Luc that it these type of cases (asthma and allergies, you must be careful when giving Med as the case can be made worse if you do not follow it with the next indicated remedy. Of course, I have no experience in this matter but I do worry that this may happen with my son.

I would be most appreciative if you could considering doing this. Kind regards.

On Sunday, April 1st, my son got a small wart on the tip of his finger and he has two very (extremely) small round ones beginning on the inside of one of his toes.

Now that my son has developed these warts, I am wondering if this helps to clarify what my son should now take. He did take 6 doses of Med 30C beginning on 2/1 with the 6th dose on 2/25 (details in the thread).

He continues to have yellow discharge from his nose which still alternates with white discharge, nasal congestion (alternating nostrils in terms of being plugged) and continues to sneeze. He also continues to have a hawking/cough due to his restricted airways. His mood seems to be either good or bad (extreme) and when he is in a bad mood he tends to talk under his breathe.

He also still is constipated with small balls and goes every other day or every 3rd day...liver ailments. He continues to put is fingers in his mouth (he says he is not biting them) and is moving his legs back and forth when he is sitting.

He also continues to have acne on both cheeks which have improved much over the past 2 months...there are a lot of white (not pus filled) bumps and some smaller cystic acne.

He is a sensitive child who probably holds a lot of his emotions to himself and he is sympathetic and kind.

My son was born jaundiced...was colic, had eczema then later developed asthma and allergies. He had many ear infections and step throats and also had warts.

It is my understanding that suppression of eczema typically can result in asthma and allergies and is probably the case with my son.

If there is anyone out there that has experience, I would like to hear your thoughts. Thank you.

l471530 last decade
I think the wart developing along with slow acne improvement points toward reversing his symptoms since he had his wart supression earlier than acne appearence, if I remember correctly. Wart problem was supressed also, not only eczema. I think although things go slowly, they are going in the right direction. If warts appeared later than asthma, which I suspect is the case (you never mentioned warts in the time course) than after they are gone, it is asthma's turn or whatever else was supressed. In case Med is not constitutional medicine, I think it is still doing a right thing. Please, do not treat warts with anything, you will make things go away slower than they are now.

Lylla last decade
You may have missed it but I think I did mention that he got treated for warts in 2009 -- large mosaic wart on the sole of his foot which took a year to treat.

What you are telling me is that this remedy is still working on trying to heal my son and therefore let it complete its cure. So if it is still working, is it possible he may need another dose of this remedy?

Is this why my son continues to have this restricted airway cough/hacking issue? I think you are saying it will stay with him until Med is ready to treat it in its natural order (newest to oldest).

So if it is taking such a long time to heal his acne -- which is a rather recent symptom, will it take more or less time to heal is wart, based on your experience? If it takes longer because it was suppressed we may be looking at another year before it treats his eczema...correct? So should I expect for that to possibly be the case?

I do appreciate you letting me know this important information. I will not treat the warts which I thought was helping us to select the next remedy.

I stepped out of this thread because it appeared to me that my line of questioning wasn't really working for you, and you seemed to still be interacting with Lylla as practitioner. I wasn't punishing you for anything, but it seemed I was creating confusion and making Lylla's job harder.

The reality is 2 practitioners rarely work well for homoeopathic treatment. You need to have trust in one and follow their guidance as best you can.

Again, no blame or judgement here, just being practical.

It's now been a few more weeks and my son has not changed at all. He continues with the same sneezing, hacking/cough, acne on face and I believe his cognitive skills have possibly diminished. His two tiny warts seem to come and go quickly but no other changes.

In school, he went from a 90 in English to an 82 (never had a grade lower than an 85 in any subject. Also he went from a 91 in Science to an 81. His other grades remained the same except math dropped from a 96 to a 90. Also today I received a paper from his math teacher to sign...he got a 74 on his last test (never received a test grade in math lower than an 84 in the past two years).

I have spoken with a local homeopath who is from India and has about 10 degrees including Pyschology and has worked in the schools here locally. He believes all that this is 'rubbish' and he recommends putting him on some combo remedies made in Germany.

As I said we just don't have many homeopaths here locally.

Can someone please consider taking a look at this and make some sort of recommendation.

Thank you.

He thinks traditional homoeopathy is rubbish does he? And that psuedohomoeopathy is the 'right' way to go. There are many, many poorly trained Indian homoeopaths unfortunately.

Well I suspect such a path will end badly, as it usually does, but in the end these are your decisions. We are already working with a handicap not seeing him in person, so prescribing via the forum will always be a more difficult process.

The remedy here is not right, that is the problem not the method of choosing it, which has been well established over the last 200 years. Throwing mutiple remedies at him, not even chosen specifically for him but decided by some pharmaceutical company somewhere, is about as far from homoeopathy as you can get.

I have no doubt that constitutional prescribing is what I tend to believe is a method I am more familiar and comfortable with. Could this be a case where as a mother I have passed onto my son Mercury which has been lodged into his system?

David, would you be so kind as to take another look and confirm whether or not you still believe Anacardium is appropriate. I know you were basing most of your remedy selection on my son's mental picture as opposed to his physicals as they were not specific enough for you.

The only other significant information you also need to know is that this homeopath did prescribe some combination remedies which we have used. His mood has improved and energy has improved but no change to sneezing, coughing/hacking, acne etc...please note his energy and mood recently got better within a day or two of taking the BC 28 remedy for malabsorption and Anemia. The last five days he has gone daily, once a day and his stool are no longer small balls but balls formed into a longer rectangular shape.

I'm just so very concerned with non constitutional prescribing. When I mentioned to the homeopathy that I was more interested in a more constitutional method he not only acted insulted that I questioned his method but he explained to me that children are too young for constitutional prescribing as they don't personalities yet and therefore the basis of constitutional prescribing is not plausible. He then continued to distinguish himself by showing me his his 15+ certificates on the wall. I must tell you that this is the homeopath that our local natural store, which is well known for its products and its recommendations of local holistic and alternative practioners, recommended to me.

Can you tell me David, have you worked with children who may have mercury abuse...if so, do you think this is possible?

I am just posting a useful website that will hopefully make it easier for you to estimate a length of recovery of your son in case of constitutional treatment. Please, read on other topics too, the more you read the better you understand your homeopath and the smaller is a chance of making wrong choices.

The name of the condition isn't really relevent to homoeopathic prescribing. The only thing that ever matters is the individual symptoms of the person. I have cured conditions that I had never seen in a patient before, because the diagnosis doesn't matter so much to us (except in terms of understanding prognosis and progress of the disease).

Let me just point out yet more rubbish this person is telling you.

There is no logic in the idea that children don't have a constitution. And what does constitution have to do with personality - that is a very bizarre jump in his reasoning. Not only that, do you believe that young children don't have personalities? That one huge lie alone should reveal him for what he is. What a foolish and ridiculous thing to say.

So in questioning him, he felt the need to display his qualifications to you - what do you think about such boasting and dismissal of your concerns? Frankly this man is a danger to you and your son. On several levels.

It is impossible to say what is doing what here. You will often see palliation or suppression with the combinations. It is not cure as defined by homoeopathy. It is the kind of wishy-washy half-results you get from orthodox medicine. Real homoeopathic cure is across all levels, and it does not need constant dosing to keep it going.

I will say one more thing about his strange (and very unhomoeopathic attitude) to mentals - if your son has symptoms affecting his mind, and he does not take them into accout - how do you think they will ever get cured? Perhaps he thinks children don't have thoughts either?

I tell you, there are SO many bad practitioners out there it fills me with despair at times.

David,
Yes, I do understand and agree. This is why I am very concerned. Although I was asked to seek local homeopath I did do that. He was highly recommended and quite frankly I fell into the tramp of not going with my instincts and turning away but to have hope that he could help. But regardless of any positive changes in my son, my gut is still telling me this is not correct prescribing.

So does this mean you will help my son. What information do you need?
Thank you.

Hello, Justin's mom. I sincerely hope your son is better!! i read the hole thread, l 10 pages very very carefully.

i am not homeopath myself, i cannot prescribe, but I am a breathing practitioner and i teach people some a method to cope with asthma and allergies..

unfortunately, i cannot prescribe anything, but I wanted to ask, does your son take offence easily? if he does, how long does it last? does he have any other interests, but sports and xbox? what kind of movies does he like? does he read books on his own, not for school? if so, what are these books about? also, what is the most important thing in his life? if you ask him, 'why are you here? what is the purpose of yr life?' what would be his answer?

please, let me know.
and as a newbie in homeopathy, i would really appreciate if you told me which did you choose eventually.

thank you and namaste
