Further to my above post, I just wanted to ask if I should still give the lighter dose when it looks like he may be improving? It is Tuesday morning and last night was better. He still woke earlier in the night and we did give pain relief, but he slept well between 11.30 and 6.30 which is better than the last few nights. Should I hold off and see how the next 24 hours go?

Hold off then.

Hi Sameer. No further improvements, except his foreskin doesn't appear to be bothering him anymore. Last night was a bit of a nightmare though, as he kept waking up constantly, but it was also really hot here. His appetite is still not great and his moods are changeable. Do you think we should give the lighter dose still?

littlefinn last decade
Yes, please go ahead with the lighter dose, (with 2 dilutions)

Thanks Sameer. I have given it to him just now, Wednesday afternoon. He is a complete mess after his nap and cannot be consoled, so I hope to see some improvement soon. I will update you tomorrow.

Good morning Sameer. There was an improvement in his mood within an hour of having the dose. He was much happier for the rest of the day, and seems good this morning too. We did have a bit of difficulty during the first part of the night, and he screamed his head off at one stage, so again we had to give him pain relief, but then we didn't hear from him until morning. He woke unhappy, but cheered up quickly. I think the fact that he was quieter after pain relief indicates that he's still having some pain in his ears. I wish we didn't have to give that to him anymore. It worries me every time. The amount of pain relief we've given him over the past year is not good.

What should we do next?

Hi again. It's a bit later in the day, and he appears to be developing another condition with his penis. The inflamed foreskin that I spoke of earlier is not the problem, it is now that his whole penis is red and swollen. We have seen this before (and posted about it) several months ago. I see no discharge yet, but it is red, swollen, tender, has an odour and seems to be painful to him when he urinates.

littlefinn last decade
Hi,

You can repeat the lighter dose (2 dilutions) again, with 6 sucussions to the Helios bottle.

Report in 48 hours.

sameervermani last decade
Ok, I will do that. In the meantime, what do you think about the penis problem? I'm getting a bit worried and we might have to take him to the doctor in the morning. I've bathed him in salt water twice today, but it's getting worse, and is obviously hurting him. What do you think is happening?

littlefinn last decade
Well any skin inflammation is homeopathically viewed a good sign.

Although it is good to get it checked, I know the allopathic advice would be to apply ointments, which is always a dicy way to go.

sameervermani last decade
So you don't think this is an acute, requiring a different remedy?

In what way is it a good sign homeopathically?

Actually, I'm not sure they would recommend an ointment, because I think the inflammation is worse underneath the foreskin where you can't get to. Although the skin on the outside is red, it does not appear to be irritated in any other way. I think they might prescribe antibiotics (that's what happened last time anyway).

In what way can ointments affect things?

littlefinn last decade
After we bathed him tonight, we noticed the skin around his anus is bright red as well. It would appear that this is a bad fungal infection - his penis and his bottom together. It hurts him when you wipe. Do you still think it's a good sign?

Hi littlefinn,

Discharges can come in many forms. Every body has its own mechanisms of healing. In this case they are coming as inflammation around orifices. As long as they come with mental amelioration, which happened after the doses, the direction of cure is correct.

Now if he is in pain from this inflammation, he might look distressed as well, and there is no way in which a young baby can convey 'although I have this pain, I feel mentally much better'.

So, from my side, the best thing would be to just wait and watch, as the secondary action is just too strong right now. I tried toning it down through the lighter dose, but it has not happened.

I would hold off on all doses for 1 week now.

And, remember if you were seeing a homeopath in person, there is no way you could keep daily contact with him. In a clinical setting you would have to wait for weeks at times, before changing plans. Sometimes, that is better because one acts on the basis of weeks of response, and does not get biased due to temporary blips.

Please update me in 1 week.

sameervermani last decade
Ok, thank you.

To add to what you said though, I would like to remind you that we did give the first LM1 dose around the 6th of January. Then the next three doses were done by the 14th. That is when the reaction got quite bad. Then the next dose came a week later (21st) and an even worse reaction. The first lighter dose a week after that after which followed a small mental improvement, and another lighter dose the following day. All the while, the penis condition has been worsening to the point where we are going to have to do something allopathic to relieve his discomfort. While I definitely saw the mental improvement with the first lighter dose, and also saw improvements after the first 3 doses of LM1 earlier in the month, everything that has happened since has only gotten worse and worse. He is waking sometimes hourly during the night, he's still pulling his ears, we're still administering pain relief, and it's been almost a month since we started giving LM1. I'm just surprised, because I really thought things would be getting better by now. And if I had have updated you weekly instead of whenever I was online, we wouldn't be seeing any different of a picture - my overall assessment still wouldn't be positive!

I understand you can see this from an objective point of view and you are the one with the knowledge and skill, but right now it is very hard for me to believe that anything of benefit is happening.

I also do not want to interfere by administering allopathics, but I really don't see what choice I have here. I'm sure I've said this before, but when it is your own body it is easy to make the decision to leave things alone and wait and see, but it is almost impossible to do this with a small child who you love so much and can't stand to see in pain. More so, when you're so exhausted yourself and just want everyone to get a good night's sleep.

I had hoped that our difficulties would be a thing of the past by now. It is so hard to function normally with all this going on.

Again, I thank you for your support. I am grateful, despite how it may sound at times. I do hope you understand my perspective.

Just thought I should update you with the doctor's visit, if you're interested.

He has a bacterial infection. Our new doctor is very good, and does not prescribe antibiotics very often at all (never for ear infections for our son). He is happy and supportive that we are trying to fix his ears in other ways. So hopefully you will understand how serious he thinks the condition is when he prescribed antibiotics immediately today. He also wants us to use ointment, but just an extra precautionary measure. The infection is not just a normal case of balanitis, which is under the foreskin, but it has affected the whole shaft, and it is also on his anus. He thinks it is a very acute case and we must not delay the antibiotics or there may be severe consequences.

So that is where we are for the next week.

I will leave you in peace now until next week. :)

Okay

Hi Sameer. It's been over a week since I last updated you about my son.

The course of antibiotics is finished. The bacterial infection cleared up pretty quickly, and I think the antibiotics have also (probably temporarily) improved his middle ear condition.

That said, we're still having night-time disturbances for no apparent reason. His appetite fluctuates. His bowel movements are more unpredictable than ever - now coming at all sorts of odd times (sometimes in the middle of the night), with different smells and consistencies.

His mood is variable. He can be a real handful some days, but I'm not sure how much of it is just 'this age'. He is entering the difficult toddler territory as he is now 19 months old.

He is very strong willed, and expresses himself very intensely about everything. He fears the ocean - the sound of waves and the vastness of it (which we recently discovered when we were away at the beach for a couple of days), but he's not scared of water or sand. Sometimes, he is intensely scared of loud mechanical noises like food processors and drills, but other times he gets manically excited by them. He still doesn't much like being in closed spaces or having things above his head, but it's not as bad as it once was.

The foods he likes and dislikes are much the same as they always were, but he enjoys fruit and vegetables much more these days.

That's about all I can think of to say right now. Is there anything you would like to ask or suggest?

Sensitive noise to- Calc(2), Carc(1), Sil (3), Puls(2),

Stool, changeable- Puls(3), Sil (1), Carc (1)

Fear; narrow places - Carc (1), Calc(2), Puls(2), Sil (1)

Being on sea-side agg - Carc (2), Sil (1)

Fruits desire - Carc(1), Calc(1), Puls(1)

Insomnia in young ones -- Puls(2), Carc(3)

As you can see the strongest indications are for Carcinosin here, a remedy which will be confirmed further if his dad (who I think is to supposed to take Carc 200) responds well to it.

We can wait for some more symptoms or patterns to emerge further. Does he respond to music in some way ?

sameervermani last decade
Very interesting Sameer. I was wondering if another remedy might start to show through, because I really started to feel as though we were getting nowhere with pulsatilla.

So is it true that there can be some relationship between constitutional remedies with parents and children? We are still waiting for the carc 200 to arrive from helios. Hopefully in a few days.

The other thing is that he is still waking up upset from sleep and naps, both first thing in the morning and his afternoon nap. He cheers up quickly when I go to get him in the morning and is usually at his best for the first few hours of the day, but it takes him some time to get over his afternoon grumps.

As far as music goes, yes, he is very responsive to music. However, his father is a musician and musical talent runs in the family. He does love music, especially strong rhythm, and he dances and sings a lot. Apart from taking him outside, singing to him is the quickest way to cheer him up in any situation. We think he has a special aptitude for music as he seems to recognise tunes remarkably well for one so young, but we are probably biased. ;-)

He still responds very well to consolation and is very physically needy.

He absolutely LOVES animals and has never shown any fear to any animal or situation that animals are in. He tries to connect with them.

It's hard to say whether the sea actually aggravated him or it was just part of his sensitivity to sound. Because when we first arrived, he literally RAN into the water fully clothed and had the time of his life. There were no waves and it was very quiet and calm. It was a totally different story the next day. While we were there he got a cold, and for two full days his nose drained yellowish white fluid the entire time we were outside. As soon as we went inside it stopped!

I also don't think that he has insomnia as such. I think his sleep disturbances are always an indication that there is physical or emotional discomfort. We know this because at times when he is truly healthy and happy, he sleeps so very well and doesn't wake up at all. I would describe him as EXTREMELY sensitive in general.

Does any of this change things or clarify your breakdown of remedies further?

littlefinn last decade
Oops, one further thing to add. Two of the days we were away he virtually refused to drink any water all day. One of them was the second day his nose was draining, and then the day after that. He hardly drank a thing all day, which was odd because we are having a severe heatwave here and he was really hot. He even got a little bit sunburnt and he still wasn't thirsty.

littlefinn last decade
Sensitive : Carc, Puls , Sil

Music, sensitive to :Carc

Love animals for : Carc , Puls ,Calc

Dancing : Carc, Sil

Consolation amel : Carc, Puls, Sil

And, yes, I have seen Carcinosin to be indicated in children when one of the parents responds well to Carcinosin.

I would wait for his dad to respond to Carc and then make a final call.

But, even if his dad does not respond well, Carc is no doubt the strongest remedy coming out.

sameervermani last decade
Ok. Can you tell me if his troublesome physical conditions are also appropriate to Carc - as in, ear infections, fungal or bacterial skin infections on the genital, excess mucus in nose, middle ear and throat as a result of viruses...?

littlefinn last decade
YES, indeed , repeated infections are very much indicated in Carc

sameervermani last decade
Interesting. ANY kind of infections or very specific ones?

What about the blocked tear duct issue, or the birthmark, or do these things cease to be relevant after a while?

littlefinn last decade
I have read through the page on carc on the homenet website (that you sent me to on my other thread) and a lot of it rang true for my son. I especially liked that it mentioned it as a good remedy for multiple miasms and for when nothing else seems to be working.

One thing bugged me however. There is no history of cancer on either side of our family. Is that relevant?

It's funny how from everything I've read my son's problem SHOULD be easy to fix with homeopathy, they don't seem to be SERIOUS conditiions, despite being chronic, yet you've been on the case now for almost six months and we still haven't cured him. Do you think that there is more going on here than what we are aware of? Why do you think he's been such a challenge?

littlefinn last decade
The history of cancer is not a requirement.

Well there were very clear indications for Pulsatilla when we started but it is not curing fully, and that can happen in a lot of the Carcinosin cases where the remedy is apparently very well chosen and fails to give complete benefit. The remedy which a Carc case usually mimics can be Puls , Sil, Calc, Nat-m, Sep, Staph, Med, Tub and Phos.

And, just to make things clear, I never give any guarantees to anyone while taking on a case, and I try my best in every case I take on, if you feel this should have been easy to cure, and we have spent too long, you are free to seek advise from someone else.
