Please help me figure out my son's constitutional Page 5 of 32

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hi again.

The night was a big improvement. The pain of ears and gums didn't seem to be a problem. There was no fever. He woke a couple more times because of breathing difficulties, but he just wanted comfort and went back to sleep.

He woke quite early this morning and his spirits are quite low. He is pulling at his ears again.

His eye appears a little bit better, and the discharge was not as great overnight, but still very crusty and sticky this morning. It's still bloodshot on the outer side of the white with a big blood spot. The overall puffiness and redness around the outside of the eye has reduced somewhat.

He is quite congested and gets upset every time he coughs. We think he is coughing because of mucus in his throat and not because the virus has moved to his chest.

He has drunk a lot of water this morning and ate breakfast as normal.

Ha ha, I think he was just unhappy because he was still tired. He's fast asleep again.

Good news :), it seems Belladonna is working well.

Keep waiting today, you can repeat a 1 teaspoon dose of Belladonna in the evening as well if there is a relapse.

Thanks Sameer.

He didn't stay asleep long, and is unhappy again. We think he is in pain again (probably his ears as he is pulling and rubbing both of them), so we have given him some paracetamol.

Do you expect that things will continue to improve throughout the day? How long until you think the dose has exhausted itself? Is it worth repeating some more now?

littlefinn last decade
You could have repeated one more now, but since you have given Paracetamol now, I would recommend repeating 1 or 2 Belladonna doses in about 6-7 hours. Bell is a short acting remedy.

sameervermani last decade
Ok. We'll do that.

I should have waited, but I didn't know when you would be on here!

Should we space the doses by one hour as before? Can we use the same bottle of water from yesterday?

littlefinn last decade
you can give him the doses from the same bottle that you made yesterday, spaced by 2 hrs

A few hours ago, my husband and I noticed that there is a small white lump on our son's eyeball (the white part), where it is red and bloodshot. I've never seen anything like this before and have no idea what it is. I have a feeling that it is hurting him, as he is crying when he rubs his eye, and gets very upset when I clean it, no matter how gentle I am.

He has a low grade fever right now (3.30pm), and I gave him the first of two the doses of belladonna half an hour ago.

Shall I still proceed as you suggested earlier?

littlefinn last decade
Yes, you can give him 1 more dose.

It might be a good idea to show the lump to a doctor and find out what that is.

sameervermani last decade
There doesn't seem to be much further improvement. In fact, his other eye is now starting to weep.

We will take him to a doctor in the morning and perhaps we will have to go with allopathic medicine for this one. :(

littlefinn last decade
ok.

Hi Sameer. The doctor has diagnosed severe conjunctivitis. I have it too now (happened overnight). We have eye drops to use for a few days. He strongly believes it was a bacterial case rather than viral, so perhaps having the blocked duct was what triggered it, with all the mucus and fluids that he had during the flu.

I think that if we had have gotten the belladonna into him the day before we did, it might have had a stronger effect on his eye, but perhaps it was too far gone and the dose not strong enough to help heal it completely.

I think in the end, the belladonna did do him a lot of good, and he slept very well last night. It will take him a while to get rid of all the excess mucus though.

The doctor checked his ears again and it is interesting that his left is now clear and his right is slightly inflamed. I think the belladonna fixed his left side, for now. It is a left sided remedy, right?

The ear inflammation oscillated from left to right a lot for about 3 months, while he was on all the oral antibiotics. Does this change his case at all, or help you know what the next step might be?

littlefinn last decade
Oh, sorry, I also wanted to say a big thank you for everything you have done so far. :)

'I think that if we had have gotten the belladonna into him the day before we did, it might have had a stronger effect on his eye, but perhaps it was too far gone and the dose not strong enough to help heal it completely.'

[SV] I agree, as this is very often the case with acute infections

'The doctor checked his ears again and it is interesting that his left is now clear and his right is slightly inflamed. I think the belladonna fixed his left side, for now. It is a left sided remedy, right? '

[SV] Hmm.. interesting, Belladonna is primarily a right sided remedy, though I dont attach too much weight to the sides of the body except in some very heavily biased remedies like Lycopodium and Lachesis.

I am torn right now between Calcarea Carb and Pulsatilla with an inclination towards the former, especially in view of, the apparent benefit from Belladonna and, Calc being the only complementary remedy to Bell.

sameervermani last decade
Well we certainly did not see any real benefit from the puls before this latest bout of sickness. It seemed to aggravate, and definitely be doing a lot to his body, but beyond that, I don't know.

We have some calc carb on hand now. Is there anything more I can tell you that will help you decide?

Should we wait for a few days until we've stopped giving the drops before acting?

In someone so young, at times, the full temperament has not yet developed, so the indications at the mental level can be sparse.
Infact we are helped a great deal by the fact that he has the stricture of the lachrymal duct, and that symptom is not found in many remedies.

Let us wait for a few days, and then go to Calcarea.

sameervermani last decade
Makes sense. Sometimes it is hard to distinguish between what is a developmental phase and what is his true temperament coming out.

It is also hard to know how much of his current behaviour has been 'learned'. For example, I believe his tendency to scream his head off at the slightest problem is because he has had a life of pain and discomfort. It's really been one thing after another with him.

One thing I can say for sure is that up until the chronic ear infections started, he was a very happy, independent, social, easy going baby, who very, very rarely cried and was never sick.

The only issues we ever had to deal with were the blocked tear duct and the acid reflux.

It might also be worth noting that he has NEVER been constipated. It might also be worth noting that the first ear infection co-incided with his first time in a swimming pool and also happened within 2 weeks of his 6 month DPT shots and his first tooth. That first time, he had minor cold symptoms (snuffly nose) which only emerged AFTER the inflammation was already diagnosed. He has never (to my knowledge) had any fever associated with his ear infection or any other symptom (except for apparent pain and discomfort) since that first time.

It this info gives you any more ideas, do let me know.

I think his problem is very deep and I have a feeling we may need to end up giving him quite a high dose to cure him properly.

Hmm.. and how strong is his aversion to slimy food ?

Also, was he prone to vomiting milk ?

So, you will say he is independent ?

We will give a high potency when we are 100% sure about the choice of the remedy. Caution is extremely important in homeopathy.

With great power to cure also comes an added responsibility of excercising extreme cautuion.

sameervermani last decade
His aversion to slimy food seems to have disappeared in the last month. He is pretty much eating everything we offer him now. He especially loves fried eggs. His appetite has been very poor for the last 2 days, probably due to his illness.

He never really vomitted a lot of milk. His reflux was 'silent' and very painful. As a newborn, he did the occasional vomit of what looked like an entire feed, but not often. It never bothered him when it happened. He did the usual amount of 'posetting' up until he started eating solids, but very rarely was it more than a mouthful that came out.

Yes, I do think of him as independent. He paints a different picture when he is unwell and something is bothering him.

I totally understand what you're saying about the high potency and I expected as much.

Would you like me to go over his modalities again? I think they are a bit clearer now.

I am also interested in finding out more about the possible effect of a ferr-p proving, as you mentioned before. Do you have anymore thoughts on that?

littlefinn last decade
Does he have a strong desire to be carried, fondled and caressed ?

Also, has he developed a strong liking for eggs ? (This is a very strong Calcarea symptom)

sameervermani last decade
Does he have a strong desire to be carried, fondled and caressed ? He loves physical contact in all forms. He especially loves vigorous play including wrestling on the floor, climbing on us, being thrown in the air, being carried upside down, being tickled and poked. He loves to just be cuddled, and he initiates it a lot by lying his head on my shoulder or lap if he's tired or not feeling well. He loves to sit on my or his dad's lap quietly. So, I would say yes. However, when he is unwell or in pain, the desire becomes a very strong need which he cannot do without. Often when he wakes at night for whatever reason, all he wants his a cuddle and he will go back to sleep. However, I stand by what I said about his independence.

Also, has he developed a strong liking for eggs ? (This is a very strong Calcarea symptom) I know, I've read as much. He has never disliked eggs, but we only started giving him eggs on their own in recent months (I'm guessing about 6 weeks ago). He is always wary of new foods, and it took him a couple of goes before he got into it, but now he absolutely loves them, and will pick pieces of chopped up egg out of all other foods on his tray.

littlefinn last decade
Okay so there are 2 remedies which are screaming out of these symptoms, Pulsatilla and Rhus-tox, and also Calcarea and Silica to some extent (but much less than Rhus-t or Puls).

Craving for eggs can even be there in Puls and Silica apart from Calcarea.

I think it is best to try a higher Pulsatilla dose, and see his reaction to it. That ways, we can be sure that Puls will not be of any further use. It becomes very difficult to come back to a remedy, so it is better to make sure before moving on, especially in view of the symptoms pointing to the remedy so heavily.

sameervermani last decade
Ok. Would it be helpful for me to tell you exactly when and how much Ferr phos he has taken as well?

I still can't help but think it has muddied the case. Especially given that puls seemed to have a strong reaction, with three of his former ailments reappearing in sucession. It's a shame he got the flu because I really wanted to see what would happen after his tear duct cleared up on its own.

Do any of these remedies indicate a birthmark which is a vascular malformation?

I was looking at some old video of my son this morning and it really struck me again how happy and easy going he was before he started getting ear infections. He was such a different baby. He has always been very high spirited and excitable though, which is why I have my doubts about calc.

His eye is greatly improved today, but he is still suffering. He is crying a lot, he is irritable, still a bit snotty and has a bad cough. Last night he woke up at 2.30am and was awake until almost 5am!!! He just wanted to be held. I am soooo tired and fed up.
